This does not sound hopeful. Sounds like things are moving when the
 board
flexes as the screws are tightened. Um. Does this machine have a
 larger

 from the case back?

The problem is definetly with the case. I removed the bottom case and
started the computer 6 times without a single problem. Thank you for
your help.

I plan on removing the plastic cover over the hard drive and the thin
foams. Adorable Libretto states that there is not a problem in doing
this. Why were they put in the first place? To reduce heat? Thanks.

I have a Libretto 50CT. I tried to boot it today but the BIOS
messages did not come up. I turned it off, but it went to
 hibernation
with a long series of beeps. I tried it turn it on several times but
nothing came to screen. I tried it again after a break and it stated
that there was no ROM in the system and that I needed to use Toshiba
key. I have no idea what this is.

*HOWEVER* it probably isn't the bios: symptoms sound more like dodgy
 memory.
Try removing the expansion ram, and then reseating it. Maybe you can
 get
into the bios by starting with the esc key pressed, then f1?

Maybe the bios battery? Leave the machine plugged to the mains
 overnight and
 then try?

The cause may be both. After an 10 hour drive, I turned it on at
home. Windows loaded as if nothing had happened before. I played around
for a while. I then restarted to make sure and everything went OK. I
turned it on in the morning and the old problems came back again.

I tried to remove the extra 16MB but did not push it hard in fear of
breaking it. I then dismantled it (as if I knew where I was looking) to
see the motherboard crack mentioned before. I put everthing back in
place and turned it on before the screws. OK. After screws not OK. I
will just leave it for a day or two for the bios battery.

Is there a page that shows how to remove/add extra memory on the
50ct? I did not know where to apply the pressure to remove it. Thanks.

I tried turning it on and off again several times and at one point it
counted the memory. After several tries it passed that stage and asked
the password. I typed it but it did not continue loading up the system.

I do not know how I messed up the BIOS but is there a way to save
this baby? Thanks.

[LIB] Installing NT4 on L50?

2002-07-18 Thread A. N. Bürümcekci

Date: Thu, 18 Jul 2002 11:02:39 -0700 (PDT)
From: A. N. Bürümcekci [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Subject: Installing NT4 on L50?

There are two partitions on the drive, a 2 GB with W98 on it and a 4 GB
blank one. I copied every file on the I386 folder on the NT4 CD to the
D: drive.

I typed winnt on the D prompt and it copied some files to 3 disks.
Then it asked for the disks to be inserted and during the second disk I
got a blue screen with a lot of garbage on it. I checked the web and
learned about a command winnt /b . Next I tried to do use that
command. It began to delete files from the previous unsuccesful setup
and then stopped stating that NT cannot continue.

What can I do to install NT 4? C is Fat32 and I want to make D NTFS.
Any help would be appreciated.

[LIB] Why did Toshiba stop producing Libretto?

Subject: Why did Toshiba stop producing Libretto?

I got my Libretto and cannot believe how useful it is. I begin to
wonder why Toshiba killed it. Didn't Libretto sell enough? Was it a
product ahead of its time? Palm is different, but WinCe machines should
have no chance against a new Libretto provided that they are in the
same price range.

[LIB] Which NT for Lib 50?

2002-05-31 Thread A. N. Bürümcekci

Date: Fri, 31 May 2002 11:11:21 -0700 (PDT)
From: A. N. Bürümcekci [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Subject: Which NT for Lib 50?

Hello,

  I have a Libretto 50 with 32 ram, P75, and a 2 GB drive. I want to
use only Windows NT on it.

I had used NT 4 on a P133 MMX with 32 MB ram and was satisfied with
it. The specs state that it should work on a Pentium, but I wanted to
be sure that P75 would be fine with it.

I plan to use it mainly to check e-mail when away from home, and some
web-surfing.

If NT 4 pushes the limit, I can try to install NT 3.51. I do not mind
using it as long as I can get on the net.

Which one would be better suited for 50 and my needs? Thanks for your
time.

Sincerely,

[LIB] CMOS battery problem with 50?

2002-03-18 Thread A. N. Bürümcekci

Date: Mon, 18 Mar 2002 07:29:52 -0800 (PST)
From: A. N. Bürümcekci [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Subject: CMOS battery problem with 50?

Hello to all,

I plan on buying a Lib 50 on Ebay. The following is listed:
**
The only problem with the unit, as with all Libretto 50CT's,
is the CMOS only charges when the unit is powered on, so it looses time
when left powered off for too long (More then 10
days). I do have a replacement CMOS battery (which I will include),
that will minimize the time loss problem but it requires
opening the case of the 50CT too install it (Which I havn't done).
**

Is this true? If so, how hard is it to change the battery? Can this
be a cause for another problem? Thank you.
