Norton's dos-oriented defrag was called SPEEDISK. If you used the short
filenames when installing the dos utilities, it was named SD.EXE. I do not
see it or its equivalent in your listing. SD32.EXE is the closest thing, but
that seems like a Windows program.

However, maybe there's another way? Maybe some disk defragmenter like
Norton can do it for you w/o having to do all that.. Wasn't there an
option in there to sort the directory?

Aacckkk There are a lot of .exe files on the NU installation disk
(see below). I don't see anything that looks like a DOS defrag .exe. I
don't really want to install the whole NU v4.0 package just for this.

Do any of the files below look like a defragmenter to anyone? I suppose if
I'm going to switch this HDD to the new 100CT, I may as well install NU.
And then I should really start with a fresh Windows installation on the new
Lib.

From: Mike Ward [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Subject: RE: [LIB] OT: My challenge copying files

I have a DOS utility that will read in a list one line at a time and output
it to a batch file according to command line switches. I used to use it
when running a landline bbs. It is quick, neat, and creates a batch file
that can be called from within the primary batch file then deleted. It could
automate the whole thing for you.

Sample usage:

listmod COPY $1 E:\ MP3LIST.M3U tmp.bat
call tmp.bat

Each pathname in MP3LIST.M3U would be copied to tmp.bat with the format
COPY pathname E:\

It would allow you to copy the contents of any list to your cf card.

Let me know if you would like a copy.

Subject: OT: My challenge copying files

I wonder if anyone on the list familiar with Windows and coding might have
some suggestions for me.

I’m trying to figure out how to take an MP3 M3U playlist file, and get
windows to copy each file in it to this CF/microdrive in the same order they
appear in the M3U file.

The M3u is just an acsii text file with the path to each file on separate
lines. I could get WordBasic to write a DOS batch file that would do it.
But then there’s the minor problem of Windows DOS not dealing with long file
names very well.

The deal is that this NEX II MP3 player doesn’t support M3U playlist files.
But it will play files in the order that they were written to the CF card
(something about the way the files appear in the FAT).

So for the moment, I’ve been copying files one by one in order to create
virtual play lists. But it sure would be really convenient to be able to
run a little program to copy files from the L70 HDD to the microdrive from
an M3U file.

Any ideas from our extensively trained and experienced group of
Librettorati? (Gosh I like that term... Wasn’t that from Fran? Where’s
she been these days?)

Some ideas for portable storage devices for the Libretto, cheap:
$99, 2GB Toshiba PC Card HD:
Tiger Direct
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?sku=T24
-1100%20P

$49, 260MB PC Card HD:

-

Some ideas for flash HD replacements for the Libretto (shock proof, lower
battery consumption):
SimpleTech 2.5 HD replacements:
http://www.simpletech.com/upgrade_navigator/?ProfileID=330upnav=upgrade_nav
igator_action.phpproductListing=trueProductCategory=IDE%2BFlash%2BDrive%2B
2.5

tech specs:
http://www.simpletech.com/navigator/oem/oem_list.php?category1=Flashcategor
y2=Flash+Drivecategory3=IDE+Flash+Drive+2.5

Basically, ~$400-600 for a ~500MB model; $1500 for a 2GB model (jump from
part
#s above to buy.com pricing).

It would be very intesting to see what performance and battery life would be
after replacing the regular Libretto HD with one of these babies, but prices
are a bit steep for now. (Too bad we're still not in the DOS days - the
cheaper 500MB models would have worked perfectly!)

the magistrate series, as I recall. If you have it and your virus detector

have a virus detection system installed, you should update definitions or at
least delete the message.

It seems to be a misdirected message anyway.

Thanks Gllan – you do not need to alter this.

The school applies the principles of best value very well and has strong
understanding of all the elements of this. It does this in a number of

How about this?

Back up your registry.
Run regedit and and search for Xircom
Delete the entries that refer to it.
If that works: Yee haw!
If not, restore your registry, nothing lost.

Try these pages. They are about someone doing essentially the same thing you
are planning.

http://www.kenkifer.com/bikepages/touring/laptop.htm
http://www.briandesousa.com/bicycling/bikecurrent/solar.htm

Ken Kifer wrote a few messages on the subject in the Libretto list back in
the spring of 2000. He also recommended this page:

Try these pages of the archives for some of Ken's messages:

I hope this helps.

Would brownout occur due to lack of Voltage or lack of
Amperage.

I plan on charging most of the day, with minimal use in the
evening.

There exist bike mountable units which could supply as much
as 20 Watts at 15 Volts in direct sunlight. This would
charge a Lib as per a mains transformer. However, what
troubles me is that the Power fluctuation inherent may cause
the lib circuitry to reject a diminished supply
current/voltage. This would not be a problem in itself, but
would be a problem if prolonged exposure to Power
fluctuation damaged either circuitry or battery.

Can anyone recommend a solar guru? Will anyone give me Bill
Cotten's address?

Thanks
Dan

For the regular list,

mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]?subject=cmd:unsubscribe

for the digest,

mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]?subject=cmd:unsubscribe_digest

Note that in this second URL, there is an underscore in the space between
the final e in unsubscribe and the d in digest.

Of course, as soon as I did this, I discovered that the unsubscribe digest
line didn't work properly. Instead, it can be entered as
mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]?subject=cmd:unsubscribe digest
which should work just fine.

This one has a space between the e and the d.

 Mike...

I know with the 100CT and 110CT, the BJC-80 or 50 needs to be configured
as
 follows:
If the Canon Printer drivers are already loaded and the printer is
installed
 follow the procedure below:
 1. In the Printers folder, right click the "Canon BJC-80" and select
 "Properties".
 2. Select the "Details" tile
 3. In the pull down menu labeled "Print to the following port" select
"COMX:
(Infrared Serial (COM) Connection Port)" Where "X" is the COM port number
 Ex. "COM4"
 4. Select the "Okay" button and then try and Print.

Using the IR LPT3 port will NOT work. Try the above procedure with your
70CT to see if it works.

Go to this URL. It will allow you to download a program that is DOS-specific
for playing mp3 files. I tested it on my 70CT after setting the SET
BLASTER=A220 I5 D0 parameter in my environment. The executable is MP3.EXE.
Copy it to the same directory as your MP3 files and execute the command line
"mp3 -c *.*". Select the original Sound Blaster as your sound card device.
It will then write a configuration file and start playing your files. It is
neat, quick, and doesn't burp even a little bit while playing.

I'm in the midst of trying to turn my Libretto 50CT into a MP3 jukebox.
While doing this, I've been experimenting with different players. Even
the
most basic players, like Winamp AMP2000 burp and skip and shutter if
ANYTHING else is being done. I've even gone so far as to load Winamp
instead of Explorer as the windows shell. I still get shutters every time
I
 touch the mouse.

So, I'm moving on to DOS MP3 players. I've downloaded a few to look at,
but
I'm having a basic problem. Where can I find DOS drivers for the Yamaha
OLP3 sound card on the Libby?

If anyone is interested, I'll report back my trials final config.

Thanks in advance for the help.

Re: 110 Keyboard prob

From: "Mike Ward" [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Subject: Re: 110 Keyboard prob

This is just a suggestion. There may be others that work better. Try it at
your own risk.

If there are any loose keycaps, remove them first. Then, put the keyboard
(not the computer) in your dishwasher. If you don't have a dishwasher, put
it in your neighbor's instead. If he doesn't have one, go to his neighbor.
You get the idea.

Run a normal wash cycle. If possible, rinse twice. Do not allow the keyboard
to dry after rinsing, place it in a shallow tub of distilled water while
still wet. Allow to soak for about 30 minutes. Pour the water off and lay
the keyboard key-side down on a stack of paper towels or some other thick,
absorbent material. Don't hurry this step. Leave it overnight if possible,
preferably in a very dry area.

The dishwashing cycle should remove any residue from the wine. The double
rinse should get the soap film out, and the soak should get out any residual
chemical.

This has worked before on full-size keyboards, so it may also work on your
Libretto keyboard.

 Help

My darling wife spilled wine on my 110CT, the Libretto seems ok, from what
I
 can tell
but the keyboard is toast, only half the keys work (presume its now
clogged
 up with
sticky gungy wine) is there anyway to rescue the keyboard or fix it, or as
a
 last resort
where can I get a replacement in the UK, I managed to get the keyboard off
 the machine
and there was only a little bit of liquid on the metal plate below, but
none
 on the Circuit board
the libretto has since been up and running for days now and working fine
 (except no keyboard)

anyway, any help on possibly cleaning the keyboard or getting a
replacement
 would be
 very welcome

 Ade

This is for a Fujitsu MHK2048AT - It is 9.5 mm, please confirm size for
 your laptop before

It says 2.5 x .5 which leads me to believe it is .5 inch, or 12mm, high
which will not fit any Libretto!

Thanks again to all who have followed my posts about the HDD/HDC failure
on
  my 6 month old 110.

  snip

Q2: Plugging my drive into a desktop as a 'slave' drive - am I any more
likely to be able to get at my data that way than when it's installed in
the
Libretto (presuming the Libretto HDC is not at fault)?

This should work fine. I am actually using my 2.1G original drive from
my L100 as the / filesystem in another Linux machine. I would really
make sure it is set as slave (check with the BIOS drive detect) as
Windows will attempt to reconfigure itself to the new hardware and
invariably screw itself beyond repair if the lib disk tries to boot.

As always - thanks for any and all suggestions, comments, etc - very
much
  appreciated.

According to the manual, the battery is a rechargeable Lithium Metal
Hydride
type 2.4v/11maH. Charging time is 48hrs, discharge time is around a month.

I did not get such a thing. OK so that solves my problem...

On the subject of the manual...
Does anyone have a copy of the 100's manual in RTF, PDF, DOC, or any other
 format

Anyone have a manual for ANY libretto in PDF or any eFormat?

Am I correct in thinking that this method will not work with FAT32?

If you're not running win9x on the host then try using the
old DOS Intersvr/Interlnk util instead and it should work perfectly... you
can then use the desktop drives as network drives from the 50ct (the host
drives will already be mapped by intersvr) and even your long filenames
will be
 preserved across this connection.

 Help!
My 50CT has a cracked screen (unrepairable) and I
 am looking for a
replacement. Reading the number posts on the 60ct
 and the 50ct that are
"dead", I am wondering if anyone would sell their
 screen, or entire unit
 for
 "parts" to me.
I love my Libretto. Works fine, just needs a new
 screen.
