RE: [LIB] OT: Editing MS-DOS FAT?
Date: Sat, 12 Oct 2002 20:35:46 -0400 From: Mike Ward [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: RE: [LIB] OT: Editing MS-DOS FAT? Norton's dos-oriented defrag was called SPEEDISK. If you used the short filenames when installing the dos utilities, it was named SD.EXE. I do not see it or its equivalent in your listing. SD32.EXE is the closest thing, but that seems like a Windows program. Maybe some disk defragmenter like Norton can do it for you w/o having to do all that.. Wasn't there an option in there to sort the directory? Aacckkk There are a lot of .exe files on the NU installation disk (see below). I don't see anything that looks like a DOS defrag .exe. I don't really want to install the whole NU v4.0 package just for this. Do any of the files below look like a defragmenter to anyone? I suppose if I'm going to switch this HDD to the new 100CT, I may as well install NU. And then I should really start with a fresh Windows installation on the new Lib. RE: [LIB] OT: My challenge copying files
Date: Tue, 10 Sep 2002 23:11:43 -0400 From: Mike Ward [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: RE: [LIB] OT: My challenge copying files I have a DOS utility that will read in a list one line at a time and output it to a batch file according to command line switches. I used to use it when running a landline bbs. It is quick, neat, and creates a batch file that can be called from within the primary batch file then deleted. It could automate the whole thing for you. Sample usage: listmod COPY $1 E:\ MP3LIST.M3U tmp.bat call tmp.bat Each pathname in MP3LIST.M3U would be copied to tmp.bat with the format COPY pathname E:\ It would allow you to copy the contents of any list to your cf card. Let me know if you would like a copy. Mike -Original Message- From: Matthew Hanson [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Tuesday, September 10, 2002 5:03 AM To: Libretto Subject: [LIB] OT: My challenge copying files Date: Tue, 10 Sep 2002 08:57:55 + From: Matthew Hanson [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: OT: My challenge copying files I wonder if anyone on the list familiar with Windows and coding might have some suggestions for me. Im trying to figure out how to take an MP3 M3U playlist file, and get windows to copy each file in it to this CF/microdrive in the same order they appear in the M3U file. The M3u is just an acsii text file with the path to each file on separate lines. I could get WordBasic to write a DOS batch file that would do it. But then theres the minor problem of Windows DOS not dealing with long file names very well. The deal is that this NEX II MP3 player doesnt support M3U playlist files. But it will play files in the order that they were written to the CF card (something about the way the files appear in the FAT). So for the moment, Ive been copying files one by one in order to create virtual play lists. But it sure would be really convenient to be able to run a little program to copy files from the L70 HDD to the microdrive from an M3U file. Any ideas from our extensively trained and experienced group of Librettorati? (Gosh I like that term... Wasnt that from Fran? Wheres she been these days?) I plan on charging most of the day, with minimal use in the evening. There exist bike mountable units which could supply as much as 20 Watts at 15 Volts in direct sunlight. This would charge a Lib as per a mains transformer. However, what troubles me is that the Power fluctuation inherent may cause the lib circuitry to reject a diminished supply current/voltage. This would not be a problem in itself, but would be a problem if prolonged exposure to Power fluctuation damaged either circuitry or battery. Can anyone recommend a solar guru? It will allow you to download a program that is DOS-specific for playing mp3 files. I tested it on my 70CT after setting the SET BLASTER=A220 I5 D0 parameter in my environment. The executable is MP3.EXE. Copy it to the same directory as your MP3 files and execute the command line "mp3 -c *.*". Select the original Sound Blaster as your sound card device. It will then write a configuration file and start playing your files. It is neat, quick, and doesn't burp even a little bit while playing. Re: 110 Keyboard prob
Date: Fri, 26 Jan 2001 22:42:35 -0500 From: "Mike Ward" [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Re: 110 Keyboard prob This is just a suggestion. There may be others that work better. Try it at your own risk. If there are any loose keycaps, remove them first. Then, put the keyboard (not the computer) in your dishwasher. If you don't have a dishwasher, put it in your neighbor's instead. If he doesn't have one, go to his neighbor. You get the idea. Run a normal wash cycle. If possible, rinse twice. Do not allow the keyboard to dry after rinsing, place it in a shallow tub of distilled water while still wet. Allow to soak for about 30 minutes. Pour the water off and lay the keyboard key-side down on a stack of paper towels or some other thick, absorbent material. Don't hurry this step. Leave it overnight if possible, preferably in a very dry area. The dishwashing cycle should remove any residue from the wine. The double rinse should get the soap film out, and the soak should get out any residual chemical. This has worked before on full-size keyboards, so it may also work on your Libretto keyboard. RE: newbie question

If you're not running win9x on the host then try using the old DOS Intersvr/Interlnk util instead and it should work perfectly... you can then use the desktop drives as network drives from the 50ct (the host drives will already be mapped by intersvr) and even your long filenames will be preserved across this connection. _ Do You Yahoo!? My 50CT has a cracked screen (unrepairable) and I am looking for a replacement. Reading the number posts on the 60ct and the 50ct that are "dead", I am wondering if anyone would sell their screen, or entire unit for "parts" to me. I love my Libretto. Works fine, just needs a new screen.
