Paul,

Cheapest 20G I found in the UK was Dabs (www.dabs.co.uk) - just over a
hundred quid last week (inc vat) for the IBM 20GN.

Thanks all for the recommendations. had a look at the DABS site and it
says its 1cm (10mm) is that not too big or is it DABS rounding up ? :-)

Subject: Help - enhanced replicator !

Hi All,

I've had my Libretto 100 for about 4 months now and am VERY impressed with
it. The only thing that I really wish for now is a USB port.

Now I hear you lot cry, you can get that from an Enhanced replicator.
I have found a source of these on the Toshiba website for only
$19.99(www.csd.toshiba.com) and look at the products.

The DOWN side to this is that its only available to people in the US
(AAAGHHHH!!).

I was wondering if anybody wanted to sell me an extended replicator OR
purchase one from Tosh and then sell it too me (even if you make a profit I
really don't mind either way!)

I also wanted to let others know of this deal too. (just don't buy them
all before I get one ;-)

Cheers

Paul

I recently purchased a used 110 without any peripherals. To boot from
floppy
do you have to use a standard PCMCIA floppy in one of the slots or will
the
BIOS accept something like a LS-120 drive, or a USB floppy plugged into a
 PCMCIA - USB adapter?

Can anyone recommend a PCMCIA-USB Adapter ?

Re: Libretto 100CT and PCMCIA problems (STILL!)

2001-04-11 Thread Paul Betts

Date: Wed, 11 Apr 2001 11:15:30 -
From: "Paul Betts" [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Subject: Re: Libretto 100CT and PCMCIA problems (STILL!)

Hi Karen,

Put your modem in a slot and hook it up to the phone line...
Yep got that one sorted ;-)

In the Control Panel, open the System icon and go to Device Manager tab and
see if there is a yellow exclamation point or red X showing on top of your
modem driver... double click on the name of your modem to bring up the
properties window... make sure the modem is NOT disabled on the General
tab... if it is, unclick it and click OK and see what happens... if you get
a message or something... and what the message if any says.

In the device manager the PCMCIA Slots are working fine (no messages) and
the installed PCMCIA modem also displays that it is functioning OK too (no
red or yellow icons). It is also NOT disabled.

Also, close down the properties window for the modem and double click on
the "Computer" at the top of the list in the Device Mgr window... check all
your IRQ's to see which one your modem is using... you can also check the
I/O.. and the memory in that same window...

The PCMCIA drivers share IRQ 11 with a load of ACPI drivers.
The PCMCIA Modem (from memory) is by its self on IRQ 10

There should be a Modem icon in the Control Panel... open that and see what
is there for your Modem... click on the Diagnostics tab... see what Com
port it has your modem on... if it is there, click on the Com port once to
hilite it and click on the button below named "More info..."

I have run the advanced info on the modem and it comes up as not responding.
(Will find the exact words later today).

I'm still intrigued to know what the PC Card Trouble Shooter memory
(mentioned in previous mails) problem was too this could be the route of
the problem, but have not idea how to fix it !!

I'm really annoyed at myself as it was working, but was advised by another
member of the list (who shall remain nameless eh Andy ;-) ) to remove them
and start again :-(

Thanks for your help so far

Paul.

Tosh support (for the 100CT, W95B) shows a MACHINE.INF for IRQ steering
and
PCMCIA.INF version 1.1. Is this what I need? Have any of you run into
this
 before? Thanks for any feedback.

Hi,

I've just got a 100CT running Windows 98SE and am also having problems
configuring the PCMCIA slots. Is there a FAQ anywhere that discusses this ?

I've been playing with the BIOS settings from PCIC Comp and Autodetect but
this does not make any difference.

In the device manager, under PCMCIA socket it has two entries which are both
"Toshiba ToPIC 97 CardBus Controller"
I am told that I should also have another entry which is PCMCIA Services .
When I enter a card their is no description in the Socket Status Description
eg "- Socket 1" and the card does not work

What do other people have ? and How do you install the card services ?

HELP

Cheers

Paul.

Subject: Re: 100CT PCMCIA Problem

Windows 98 includes several Troubleshooter Wizards to help you
troubleshoot device conflicts on your system.

big snip

Hi Karen,

Thanks for your prompt reply, I did try and use the trouble shooter this
morning (before I sent my initial mail). For PCMCIA problems it was not that
much cop.

In the help, there was a was an option to "enable 32-bit card support"
(using the PC Card (PCMCIA) wizard. I selected this option and it said it
was not installed and that I should goto to Add/REmove Programs for the
Windows setup.

There is NO entry in the windows setup to configure PCMCIA Cards or the Card
services.

So thats a bit of a dead end.

Fixing Big Problems with System Troubleshooter

snip

1.Launch System Troubleshooter by clicking the Start button
and selecting Run. When the Run dialog box appears, type
tshoot in the Open box, and then click OK.

Tried this, there is no tshoot applicaiton on my machine :-(

There is NO entry on PCMCIA Socket wihin the Device Manager for "PCMCIA Card
Services".

**The question is "How do I the above PCMCIA Card Services
?"*

Other useful information that may help is that when I add or remove a PCMCIA
card, the following message box appears:

"Windows is not able to identify or use the inserted PC Card device because
there is no memory area available to communicate with the device. You must
make a memory area available before this device can be used.Check your
computer's CONFIG.SYS file for a memory manager that is excluding upper
memory regions between A000 and ."

I don't have any entries in my config.sys that reference any memory settings
:-(

Thanks for your help so far

Cheers

Hmmm, when I go into the Add New Hardware wizard
in the Control Panel and select "No, I want to select the
hardware from a list" rather than let Windows find it...
it brings up a list which has PCMCIA socket on it...

Do you get that on your list too???

Hi Karen

OK (I may be a bit slow here )
I have added a new PCMCIA Socket - which is of the type [Standard PCMCIA
driver} and from the list selected the ojnely one that was there which is
PCIC or compatible PCMCIA controller.

Is this the right driver ?
