Hi folks,
I am based in the UK but about to take the plunge and order a new cover for
my 100ct from
http://www.impactcomputers.com/toshiba-libretto-110ct-parts.html from the
US. Before I commit to it, anyone know of any UK based companies could
supply to save the hassle of International ordering?
Thanks in advance.
Andy.

Yup, I would be interested. Desperately need a new top half case for 100CT
as I have "extending hinge cracks"!!!
May be interested at complete machines depending on price.
Cheers,

HDD and Win 2k

Subject: HDD and Win 2k

Hi folks,
I have just put the 10gig in my 110. Loaded OS's as follows:
Dos 6.2 gave 2g HDD then Win 98 used Partition Magic 5 to give 6g HDD now
replaced with Win 2k. Installation went very easily but I can only still see
6g HDD. Can I change this via Win 2k or do I need extra software. Partition
Magic 5 is not compatible!
If anyone know I'd appreciate a quick answer as I have to load lots of MP3's
before I go away tomorrow! :-)
thanks,
Andy.

New HDD in 110

From: "Reid, Andy G" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
Subject: New HDD in 110

Hi Folks,
I know it has been covered many times, but installing a large HDD...
I have just got a 10gb drive.
My plan is to install DOS then Win 95 via floppy which I guess will only
give me the first 6gb. Once this is on, I can load my Win 2000 from CD. Will
this then give me access to the remaining space on the drive that was
previously lost? Also, Win 2k will then look after the location of the
hibernation space on the HDD???
Will this work?
Anything else I should be aware of??
Cheers,
Andy.

Hi.
Have you thought about sourcing from the UK?? I use Yahoo auctions which
are pretty good. Also I have just checked on Parcel Force and to send a
parcel to Norway (guessed at 5kg) seems to cost £35-40 GBP.
I do have a 70ct I am getting rid of. One of my friends has 'first refusal'
at the moment but if he turns it down and you are interested, we may be able
to sort something out. I am looking to get about £320 GBP. Email me direct
if you are interested.
Hope this helps,
Andy.

Startup problems

From: "Reid, Andy G" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
Subject: Startup problems

Hi folks,
I have a problem I am hoping someone can help me with.
I have lent a friend my 70ct (Win98 se) which was working fine until last
night. The battery ran out and the machine 'died' before he could plug in
the external power supply. Now every time he tries to reboot, it insists on
going into Safe Mode. The next reboot will freeze then the next Safe Mode
only which then repeats over.
Any ideas what the problem might be? He has not tried installing any new
hardware or software so it is not a driver problem. I am wondering if the
power completely ran out before during the hibernate and so it is trying to
restart from this but is corrupted? Sound reasonable? Any way to do a fresh
reboot ignoring any hibernate data? Or any other ideas??
Many thanks for any help you can give.
Regards,
Andy.

Hi,
I have only used Windows 98 SE and during the setup/install have selected
that the machine is a laptop rather than a desktop unit. Not sure if this
will make a difference.
In control panel, when I select 'Power Management', The window has 5 tabs:
Power schemes, Alarms, Power Meter, Advanced and Hibernate. Once 'Enable
hibernate support' is ticked in the hibernate tab, it is then available in
the drop down menus in the Advanced tab. I guess if the tab is missing, you
may need to tell Windows to add it, but no idea how I'm afraid.

Andy.

Hi folks,
Has anyone any experience with the Libretto ff 1100V ??
I am looking at a second-hand one to replace my 110CT. Spec does look better
i.e. P266 and 98M Ram, but have I missed anything? I am assuming that my
normal CD and FD drives will work (via PCMCIA). I did try looking at the
specs from Tosh, but my Japanese isn't that good!! ;-)
Replies either on or off list as appropriate.
Many thanks.

After spilling cream on mine (don't ask how!!) I found that you can
carefully lift the key away from the hinge bit (it's just a 'click' fit),
remove the hinge bit then clean the bottom of the rubber conductive bit and
the inner and outer contacts on the circuit board below. I used PCB cleaner
stuff on a cotton-bud. Sorted mine out fine from a real mess!
May be worth testing in a less used key first!

Cheers for the replies. I hadn't guessed it would be so easy or even seen
the little access cover before! Amazing what you miss on something you use
everyday! Had assumed it would be a bonnet up, remove keyboard job.
Thanks again for the prompt replies.

Splitting and upgrading!

Subject: Splitting and upgrading!

Hi folks.
I am in the process of replacing my 100ct with a 110ct and am not sure about
the following. If I swap the hard drives between the machines, will the new
one then run the same as my old one, just faster or is their anything in
Win98/software that links the operating system to the machine/processor??
One of my reasons for upgrading is that the screen/hinge is a bit knackered
on my old one. Does anyone have any experience with the wiring that link the
base part and lid? I am playing with the idea of splitting them and
extending the wiring for in-car/GPS navigation use. I could then dash mount
the screen with the "gubbins" all discreetly out of the way, maybe in the
lid of the drivers side glove compartment. Any thoughts??
Thanks,
Andy.

Hi.
I think you have the same problem as me!! Check out:
http://www.yedata.com/support/fb3dl.html
It looks like they actually make the drive, so this is what Windows
recognises, but to work on the Lib you need the Tosh drivers. These should
be on the disks that came with the machine, which by the look of it, like
myself you don't have. Could anyone give a good link to them (Amherst seem
to have the wrong ones!) or post to the list or send direct??
Thanks,
Andy.

My Libretto's - What have I done now???

Subject: My Libretto's - What have I done now???

Hi Folks,
Thanks for peoples help in getting WIN98 onto my second Lib. That seems to
be working as it is installing at the moment, but I seem to have broken my
first machine. :-(
One I option I tried was to load the CDRom's Dos drivers onto it to try and
get it working in DOS on this machine. The plan being to then transfer the
files/config whatever to my second machine, but no it didn't work. The when
I rebooted I got an error about not enough stacks in my config.sys. Used
safe mode, ran trouble shooter and removed duplicate device drivers as
suggested. Now when I restart Windows, it finds new hardware: Toshiba
ToPIC97 CardBus Controller. It finds the inf file in
C:\windows\inf\pcmcia.inf but hangs when it is trying to the copying files
bit. If I cancel when it finds the new hardware it loads Windows but
everything is so slow and unresponsive it is unusable. Any ideas???
Cheers,
Andy.

Getting an OS on a Lib

2001-03-05 Thread Reid, Andy G

Date: Mon, 5 Mar 2001 14:42:48 -
From: "Reid, Andy G" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
Subject: Getting an OS on a Lib

Folks,
A question. Don't think it's been answered in the recent discussions...
Just got another Lib 100CT with a blank HDD. Tried various OS installations
and nothing would recognise my CD drive (its an HP writer, M8230e I think).
Gave in and found some floppies with DOS 6.2, installed that and installed
the CD's Dos drivers from floppy but now get an error about Card driver not
being installed and APSI Manager not installed. Does this mean it's not
recognising the PCMCIA slots? Seems strange as the FDD works! I thought the
BIOS did this? Do I need some Tosh drivers loaded in addition to any
standard MSDOS stuff?
Thought about doing it via a cable link to my other PC. I have a COM port
type of lead, but not sure if I need the Null Modem adapter?? The other
machine is running Win 98. Should I use the Microsoft Direct connect
program? and what should be running on the new "DOS" machine? Interlink??
Any help or instructions either on or off list would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
Andy.
  z
Ps following on from my note last week, the Libs at auction were from the
Dome and went for £325 to £350 which doesn't sound too bad until you add
17.5% vat and 10% buyers premium! :-(

Hi folks,
I've been lurking at the back for a while now and thought I should speak up
with hopefully a very good deal for a few people!
I know of a few 100CT's coming up for sale this week for hopefully less than
£250 (GBP). As far as I could tell, they are pretty much as they came from
Tosh and in very good condition, incl. floppy drive and power lead, may have
64Mb RAM but probably only 32 and standard HDD (is that 2.1Gb??) which has
been wiped. Sorry spec is a bit rough, but the person standing over the
cabinet they were displayed in didn't know much!!
I would rather not advertise my source as that may push the price up, but
would be quite happy to try and purchase for people. I am not planning on
making anything on the deal myself and would not want cash until I have the
machines. if anyone is interested, please drop me a private email. If I do
end up with any machines surplus to my requirements, I will be selling them
on Yahoo (UK) auction site (my seller ID is AGR46942).
May also have access to some LCD "monitors" 15 and 17 inch I think. Anyone
any guesses what these are worth second hand??
Cheers,
Andy.

Yup, you can plug the lead in for transferring logos, ring-tone, backing up
phone book etc, but the phone is not data/fax enabled and even with this
activated on your account/SIM card, the phone cannot use the functionality.
Hope this clarifies things.

IR Remote Control

2001-01-09 Thread Reid, Andy G

From: "Reid, Andy G" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
Subject: IR Remote Control

Hi,
I am trying to get a Packard Bell I/R remote to work with my Lib 100 running
Win 98 se. Not sure I have right drivers etc.
Anyone got any experience with this or recommend software to use? Also,
should the remote be set-up as new hardware? or be purely software
controlled via Comm port and I/R receiver that came with the remote??
Thanks for any help.
Andy.

Ed,
Just to confirm Jon's note, there is no way to use data on the 3210. It is
aimed at the bottom end of the phone market (dare I say for kids!!! Sorry.)
and not for "business" use. A phone upgrade or maybe the Nokia PCMCIA card
phone would be your best option. I do have an old Orange Nokia 5.1 with
pcmcia data card that I might be interested in selling. Phone is locked on
Orange network though, but could be unlocked for 1-to-1 network as well.
Email direct if interested
regards,
Andy.

Joystick on Lib

2000-10-19 Thread Reid, Andy G

Date: Thu, 19 Oct 2000 11:50:10 +0100
From: "Reid, Andy G" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
Subject: Joystick on Lib

Folks,
I am getting my Lib sorted for use in the car but using the built in mouse
pad and buttons is not too convenient. Does anyone know of a small joystick
or track-ball (for thumb or 1 finger control) that will plug into the
standard mouse port that might be suitable for mounting on the steering
column? Ideally UK sourced but US would be fine??
TIA.
Andy.

Just a quick question as I have not 'net access at the moment to find out
myself,
Are batteries on the different Lib's interchangeable?
Thanks,
Andy.

Lib in the car

2000-10-11 Thread Reid, Andy G

Date: Wed, 11 Oct 2000 13:46:35 +0100
From: "Reid, Andy G" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
Subject: Lib in the car

Hi folks,
I have been lurking for a few weeks now and am now feeling brave and have a
few queries I am hoping someone can help me with! I wish to use my 100CT in
the car, primarily with AutoRoute and hopefully my GPS (Magellan Trailblazer
XL). A few queries though:
1) Any ideas on getting a car 12v cigar-socket power adapter. I have tried
searching the Net, but getting nowhere. Preferably UK based supplier.
2) Any ideas for holding the Lib, bracket etc so it is secure and safe to
use (by the passenger obviously!) whilst in the car.
3) Any experiences connecting the GPS to Lib. I have a comms cable with
various wires and a 9 pin connector but not sure which wire to which pins!
Can I damage the Lib if I get it wrong?
TIA.
Andy.
