HDD and Win 2k

Loaded OS's as follows: Dos 6.2 gave 2g HDD then Win 98 used Partition Magic 5 to give 6g HDD now replaced with Win 2k. Installation went very easily but I can only still see 6g HDD. Can I change this via Win 2k or do I need extra software. Partition Magic 5 is not compatible! Will this then give me access to the remaining space on the drive that was previously lost? Also, Win 2k will then look after the location of the hibernation space on the HDD??? Will this work? Startup problems
Date: Wed, 27 Jun 2001 11:42:17 +0100 From: "Reid, Andy G" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: Startup problems Hi folks, I have a problem I am hoping someone can help me with. I have lent a friend my 70ct (Win98 se) which was working fine until last night. The battery ran out and the machine 'died' before he could plug in the external power supply. Now every time he tries to reboot, it insists on going into Safe Mode. The next reboot will freeze then the next Safe Mode only which then repeats over. Any ideas what the problem might be? He has not tried installing any new hardware or software so it is not a driver problem. I am wondering if the power completely ran out before during the hibernate and so it is trying to restart from this but is corrupted? Sound reasonable? Any way to do a fresh reboot ignoring any hibernate data? Or any other ideas?? Many thanks for any help you can give. Splitting and upgrading!
Date: Wed, 21 Mar 2001 16:30:09 - From: "Reid, Andy G" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: Splitting and upgrading! Hi folks. I am in the process of replacing my 100ct with a 110ct and am not sure about the following. If I swap the hard drives between the machines, will the new one then run the same as my old one, just faster or is their anything in Win98/software that links the operating system to the machine/processor?? One of my reasons for upgrading is that the screen/hinge is a bit knackered on my old one. Does anyone have any experience with the wiring that link the base part and lid? I am playing with the idea of splitting them and extending the wiring for in-car/GPS navigation use. I could then dash mount the screen with the "gubbins" all discreetly out of the way, maybe in the lid of the drivers side glove compartment. Any thoughts?? Check out: http://www.yedata.com/support/fb3dl.html It looks like they actually make the drive, so this is what Windows recognises, but to work on the Lib you need the Tosh drivers. These should be on the disks that came with the machine, which by the look of it, like myself you don't have. Could anyone give a good link to them (Amherst seem to have the wrong ones!) or post to the list or send direct?? My Libretto's - What have I done now???
Date: Tue, 6 Mar 2001 12:02:01 - From: "Reid, Andy G" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: My Libretto's - What have I done now??? Hi Folks, Thanks for peoples help in getting WIN98 onto my second Lib. That seems to be working as it is installing at the moment, but I seem to have broken my first machine. :-( One I option I tried was to load the CDRom's Dos drivers onto it to try and get it working in DOS on this machine. The plan being to then transfer the files/config whatever to my second machine, but no it didn't work. The when I rebooted I got an error about not enough stacks in my config.sys. Used safe mode, ran trouble shooter and removed duplicate device drivers as suggested. Now when I restart Windows, it finds new hardware: Toshiba ToPIC97 CardBus Controller. It finds the inf file in C:\windows\inf\pcmcia.inf but hangs when it is trying to the copying files bit. If I cancel when it finds the new hardware it loads Windows but everything is so slow and unresponsive it is unusable. Any ideas??? Getting an OS on a Lib
Date: Mon, 5 Mar 2001 14:42:48 - From: "Reid, Andy G" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: Getting an OS on a Lib Folks, A question. Don't think it's been answered in the recent discussions... Just got another Lib 100CT with a blank HDD. Tried various OS installations and nothing would recognise my CD drive (its an HP writer, M8230e I think). Gave in and found some floppies with DOS 6.2, installed that and installed the CD's Dos drivers from floppy but now get an error about Card driver not being installed and APSI Manager not installed. Does this mean it's not recognising the PCMCIA slots? Seems strange as the FDD works! I thought the BIOS did this? Do I need some Tosh drivers loaded in addition to any standard MSDOS stuff? Thought about doing it via a cable link to my other PC. I have a COM port type of lead, but not sure if I need the Null Modem adapter?? The other machine is running Win 98. Should I use the Microsoft Direct connect program? and what should be running on the new "DOS" machine? Interlink?? Any help or instructions either on or off list would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Andy. z Ps following on from my note last week, the Libs at auction were from the Dome and went for £325 to £350 which doesn't sound too bad until you add 17.5% vat and 10% buyers premium! :-( ** http://libretto.basiclink.com - Libretto mailing list http://libretto.basiclink.com/archive - Archives http://www.picante.com/~gtaylor/portable/faq.html - FAQ ---UNSUBSCRIBE--- mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]?subject=cmd:unsubscribe UNSUBSCRIBE DIGEST-- Use above but add DIGEST to the subject line... **
