[LIB] Help!!! on my Libretto 50CT batteries

Subject: HELP!! on my Libretto 50CT battery

Hi!
I have a Libretto 50CT whose battery went dead 5 days ago. I was able to
buy 2nd hand(refurbished) batteries from a previous Libretto 70CT owner
whose unit conked out after a 4 feet drop. I tried the 70CT batteries on my
unit and turned it on and it worked just fine!! Happily I went home, and
cleaned the 3 batteries I bought. However, while wiping it and on close
inspection, I found on the inscriptions on the battery, the following
message!! Caution Do not dispose of in fire...Do not directly
connect(short circuit)Do not use other battery chargers..Do not use
with Libretto 50CT Whoa!!! What happened..!! Stupid meI didn't
read closely while buying it. The Model No. of the battery I bought is
PA2452U DC 10.8V 1200 mAh...
So what is wrong here...?? how come I cannot use this battery on my 50CT?
It fits fine, it has the same voltage, it has the same ampere rating...I am
sure Toshiba didn't put these inscriptions by mistake...It was there for a
reason...
FYI, I was previously using an extended battery(the battery that conked
out). The part no. of that battery is PA2498U DC 10.8V 2400 mAh.
I tried to do a little research on the net, but it seems the 50CT and 70CT
batteries can be interchanged, (sites I checked are
http://www.impactcomputers.com/toshiba-libretto-50ct-parts.html and others)
But one site says, http://www.synack.net/libretto/#faq_bat you can't
interchage batteries.
So can anyone help me decide which of the two sites above is correct?? Can
anyone also give me information why I can't make use of these batteries???
Will it destroy my unit if I insist on using it??(But of course, I didn't
even try to put it again on my unit after reading the inscriptions on the
battery) Will it explode or anything like that...??
I don't know if I can return these batteries again, but if I can't REALLY
use these on my unit and need should be then I guess I will have to ask
that guy I bought these from, really nice... and hope he gives me back my
money
Thanks to all!!

oly

Hmm ... I've seen this on the L100/110 batteries but not on the 2 L70
batteries I purchased for what was my L50 (and which work beautifully) ...

I'd say they'd be fine ... heck you can grind back the plastic on an L50/70
extended battery and use it in an L100/110!

big snip on batteries

They're identical. No worries. I've been using the same set of four batteries
interchangeably between a 70 and a 50 for years now.

Neil (wondering about splitting a dead unit to get the connectors to see just
how long a portege extended battery will run a 70... 5000mAH!)

Wouldn't it be easier to run the L70 (temporarily) without it's case so you
can actually get the connectors together? The battery connector is (afaik)
the same, at least between the Librettos and the Portege 3xxx series ...

Probably it would, but, time is kinda hard to come by at the moment and it's a
bit low on the priority list :) - got six yards of wardrobe to finish
building, this nixie clock I've been sitting on for too long, an Open
University Masters degree thingie, jobs in New York and Kiev etc...

For the record, the big battery on the portege 7020 (running linux) will start
at heathrow and work to JFK New York, music all the way...

That's the 12 cell one? I just realized that the pack I was thinking of
(for the Portege 3010, similar to the 7020 except it has a PII333) must
have only been 2.4AH (it's similar in size to the extended Libretto pack)
... it'd be interesting to see in any case :-)
