The L100/110 uses a different plug to the L50/70 but you can get the latter at any
decent electronics store. The specs on that device don't seem to be the same as the
Xtend unit (eg. 50W Vs 45W, interchangeable output plugs Vs a hardwired plug) but it
should be quite suitable.

You do? You've obviously never gone through wholesaler clearance catalogues or eBay ;-)

Well some AC adapters I've had do get hot enough to be uncomfortable to touch. This
unit was still relatively cool even in direct sunlight (the same can't be said for the
24 to 15 volt dropper I had to put in line which got too hot to touch ... heh). I
don't think efficiency is a big problem - an auto, air or motorcycle 12V circuit has
more than enough power to afford to waste a bit of it, we are talking lightbulb sort
of power wastage here (and I'm talking sidelight sort of lightbulb, not headlight).

The former looks like the same unit as mine (remember though, the voltage on the
PowerXtender unit is set by the plug and flylead, I think the plug has some circuitry
in it which feeds info back to the switchmode controller in the main unit). It doesn't
say what voltage though ... I can't see the voltage of the latter one but you can look
it up on IBM's website as to what voltage those laptops take ... if its any over 15
volts just put a 15 volt linear regulator in the line (and slap a big heatsink onto
it!).

Well I'm in Perth, Western Australia so sorry I wouldn't have a clue about the UK ...
you should have heaps more than we do though! I'm sure a search on google for computer
parts corporate suppliers, wholesalers and discount clearing places should turn up
something.

Hope this helps!

Librettos with model numbers 50 or below can either charge the battery or run the
libby but not both at the same time (you can hibernate the libby and charge though).

[T] Ok on that ..

The L70 and above can do both at the same time but it'd take ages to fully charge a
battery with the libby turned on (we're talking 10 hours or so on, 3 or so hours off).

[T] Ouch! 10 hours! .. I started to think the 50 was a mistake then I read the rest of
that para and it's not so bad! ;-)

The libby doesn't care if its running off an AC adapter or off an air/car power
adapter, as far as its concerned, they are the same.

[T] Cool .. just got to get one (Air/Car) now .. the 'Mobility' unit appears a few
time on the USA eBay .. is that what I want? I might also try some of the external
battery 'tricker' ccts .. for when I don't need the engine on ..

 Hope this helps!

[T] It does indeed! Thanks very much Raymond ;-)
