Helmholtz-Ellis tuning sponsors?
Hi all, So, I'm working on a big just intonation piece. I've come across Marc Sabat's Helmholtz-Ellis tuning system ( http://newmusicbox.org/article.nmbx?id=4191 ), and I dig it. I'd really like these microtonal symbols integrated into Lilypond. Would anyone else be up for co-sponsoring this with me? Han-Wen, is this a fairly straightforward task? Hi to all at Lilypond, My family and I are off to Canada (from the UK) to live in the next few weeks, so I'm going to be off the air until I get sorted out over there with an internet connection. I know this question was asked about a thousand times....
...but since I consider myself as a newbie here, I hope you won't mind :) Here am I : I've (almost) written a whole opera under Sibelius 3, and I've been trying for ages to switch to Libre software, I mean our favorite Lilypond forever... The music I'm writing from now on is entirely genuine Lilypond-coded (took me a couple hours a day during one month to learn but i'm done). My question is : how about the music I wrote _before_ that, the tons of .sib files on my HD ? Shall I rewrite it from scratch ? Is there any way to spare me months and months of hard working ? I tried MIDI export, I've also tried (actually I BOUGHT it) the Dolet MusicXML export plugin. But it's still very very weak, and make a lot of things disappear. I've even tried insane solutions, like printing scores in PDF, and using some music-scanning software to recover it... let me tell you : it's ugly. The Makemusic Sibelius and Recordare guys are certainly doing great, but gosh !! The hell with closed-source software !! I know .sib files are compressed and somehow encrypted, and therefore quite difficult to disassemble ; is there any sponsoring stuff to make it possible however ? Or is there any other advice anyone can give me ? Thank you everybody. IF you're looking for a technical solution, find someone who is willing to reverse engineer Sib. For about a year now. I have been using Lilypond. I was very happy with it, very very happy. Until the day that I tried to write a French title in which there was a letter with an accent. Ever since, no matter what I have done, I have failed to produce a pdf file that displayed the character properly. I am using a Windows XP machine. First I used the lilypond offered through cygwin. That worked until I tried the letter with the accent. I have used emacs through cygwin, then the latest version of Xemacs without Cygwin. Nothing worked. I updated lilypond through cygwin only to get no characters at all any more. When I read that it was better to use lilypond for Windows, I switched (the characters now were better than ever before, but still no character with an accent. Finally, I switched editors, tried Editpad. To no avail. I have spent innumerable hours trying to solve the problem. There must be a simple solution, for I have seen a source file with the line in the header saying inputencoding=utf-8. I copied that trick. Lilypond handled it without protesting. But no accented character. Who can tell me in clear language how to lick the problem? Open the file in Emacs, press CTRL-x Return f and enter: utf-8 You should see a -u at the bottom left corner of the window. Then, the next time you save the file, it should be in UTF-8. This didn't work for me the first time I tried it, since I had an old .emacs file that changed some of the default settings. Lyrics collide with barlines
Hi, I have typeset over 100 pages of music with Lilypond 2.8.6 last month and there's only one thing that I could not figure out how to do. Every now and then, lyrics will collide with barlines. See for example: http://catalin.francu.com/Music/colinde/ (some Romanian carols). Look at la_vitleem_colo_n_jos.ly and the generated la_vitleem_colo_n_jos.pdf. You'll see the collisions right from the first system. The documentation proposes a solution here: http://www.lilypond.org/doc/v2.8/Documentation/user/lilypond/Vocal-music.html#Vocal-music However, that doesn't work well for me. See the modified la_vitleem_colo_n_jos2.ly and la_vitleem_colo_n_jos2.pdf in the same folder. Two unwanted effects happen when I do what the manual says: - The bar lines now extend down, including the bass lyrics (before, they ended on the bass staff) - Some non-simple barlines (such as the repeat barline after measure 18) appear chopped in pieces. Ideally, I'd like a way to tell Lilypond I want at least two mm of space between barlines and text. Other than that, big big kudos (I wish I only had one gripe with every software package I used). Guitar Tablature problems and Hammer on and Pull Offs

And yes I am a newbie at this and I cant seem to find anything in the docs to this. Firstly when I put in some code for tablature and I want an Open E (6th string) it puts the tab on the 12th fret on the 6th string. It does this with all of my tab, its seems I cant get it to use open strings or under the 12th fret. Use the comma to make the actual (as it sounds) notes one octave lower, to get e,8\6 e,\6 gis,\6 gis,\6 (for which the \6 actually becomes unnecessary) rather than e8\6 e\6 gis\6 gis\6 Things will then look right in the tablature.
