[LincolnTalk] Limited 50% discounted tickets to TEDx Walden Pond

2024-10-15 Thread Jessica Cooper
Dear fellow Lincolnites,

We wanted to extend a couple of codes to provide discounts and entry for
the curious minded to encourage you to come and support our newest effort -
and our speakers. We have about 30 open seats left, and it would mean the
world to our thought leaders to have you there!

Nick and I are passionate about public speaking and the arts, and are
investing a lot of love, time and commitment to bringing this into reality
- and our community, and more than anything - it would mean a lot to share
it with you, our neighbors. At the bottom, you will find some codes - one
for 50% off for those who can afford to spend a little to support the
effort, and one free ticket for those who would not otherwise come - either
due to financial constraints or other reasons.
There are a very limited number of free tickets - so we only ask that you
use that code if you are sure you will attend (arrive on time) and stay
for the duration. We are limited to only 100 people. We hope that in the
future, we will find more sponsors and offer tickets for a fraction of what
we are currently asking - but for now, we are counting on support as we
tenderly move forward.

Our speakers, and topics are these:

Morgan Motsinger “Invincible Hope”

Vince Molinaro "Barn Raising! Creating community in your company"

Rachel Kaplan "Inner Talks that Heals"

Eden-Renee Yoda on DEI **local!!

Greg Cootsona “The Neurospiritual look of Love”

Jessica Fein "In Lieu of Lasagna: Grief Literacy" **local!!

Alida Zweidler Mckay " 3 Strategies for Managing Conflict" **local!!
♥️♥️♥️

 Laura Bratton “Gratitude in Adversity”

*Dr. Deb Clary "Curiosity: Two Truths and a Lie"

Peggy Sullivan "Time Poverty"

Emily Thorner: *The Power of Your Voice *

There will be two "entr'acte" performing arts features, and two 10 minute
breaks. Our artists are local choreographer Rachel Linsky
<https://www.rachellinsky.com> and her dancers, and American conductor Jane
Ring Frank <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jane_Ring_Frank>, who will lead
three women singers in an hilarious modern musical setting of
"anti-suffragist reasons," (reasons men gave against women being able to
vote, having pockets or riding in railway trains...)

The program starts at 5:15 (doors open at 5pm) where everyone will need to
find a seat, and Nick Morgan will give an introduction and housekeeping for
this live taping of TEDx Walden Pond.

We hope to see more of you there this year!!

Jess, Nick and the TEDx WP team!

[LincolnTalk] TEDx Walden Pond 2024!!

2024-09-18 Thread Jessica Cooper
Lincoln friends-

TEDx Walden Pond is excited to be hosting our second annual TEDx talk in
Lincoln! This year we are featuring 10 speakers, including two amazing
women from our immediate community: Dr. Eden-Renee Hayes (Wayland) and
Alida Zweidler-Mckay (Lincoln). We are grateful to everyone who submitted
their ideas, and give our warmest congratulations to the featured speakers
who we will present this year!

Our 2024 theme echoes Henry David Thoreau's beautiful quote: *"It takes
two to speak the truth: One to talk, and one to listen." * This year, as
our theme indicates, we will be focused on both speaking and listening in
our search for compelling truths.

As we did last year, this year's program also features dance - a work by
local choreographer Rachel Linsky, as well as a humorous musical
performance of "Anti-Suffragist Reasons," a setting of the bitingly
satirical words by Alice Duer Miller (1874-1942), written by award winning
composer Paul Ayres. This will be performed by members of the Concord
Women's Chorus.

We hope you will join us!

[LincolnTalk] Paddle Board/ woodworking Enthusiasts?

2024-04-28 Thread Jessica Cooper
Are any Lincolnians into paddle boarding or other watercraft? Or into
authentic traditional top quality wood boats, or boat building?
I am posting a recommendation here for an incredible human, Andrew
Malcomb. He worked professionally as a carpenter for over 20 years, and
was educated as a wooden boat builder. He worked as a mountaineering guide,
designed and built wooden paddle boards, and is an outdoorsman, a
craftsman, an educator, and a passionate and engaged father and man. He
makes very top end wooden paddle boards, (traditional!) canoes, kayaks and
sleds. He also teaches how to build canoes! His boards and boats are
beautiful, one of a kind crafts and made to order.
Message me for a personal introduction, or just go to his site.
http://visionwright.com/Watercraft.html

.
Also, Andrew has a grand vision of building a custom wooden paddle board,
training heavily with his oldest son, and traveling to the Yukon to
participate in a 444 mile adventure paddle race on the Yukon River in the
summer of 2025. So if you're just in the mood for a good deed today, here
is his gofundme page. He deserves to have this dream come true.

[LincolnTalk] Gentle reminder to dog owners on trails

2023-10-09 Thread Jessica Cooper
Friends,

About three weeks ago two giant poodles ran up to me on the trail behind/
around Codman Farm. They were big dogs, and ran several hundred yards from
the owner to get to me, where they both stopped inches from me and checked
me out. It was unnerving. The owner was shouting, but the dogs did not
follow the owner's voice commands.

I am a dog owner myself, and this weekend a similar thing happened in
another part of lincoln on conservation land, where an unleashed dog ran
several yards from the owner to approach me.

I looked up the town rules, and thought I might share them here. This is
cut and pasted directly from the site. Thanks to all the responsible dog
owners out there - there are many of you. And there are a few who maybe
haven't had a good look at the rules and need a little nudge!

   - *Dog Walking **Rules *
  - *Dogs must be leashed or under effective voice control at all times*.
“Voice Control” is defined as the dog being always within the
owner’s sight
and hearing & trained to come immediately when called.
  - *Dogs must be leashed (or held by the collar) when approaching
other trail users* unless the other user expressly gives permission
to leave the dog off leash. Some people are not comfortable around dogs.
  - *A maximum of 3 leashed dogs are allowed per person*. Visitors with
2 or fewer dogs may unleash their dogs, except where leashes are
expressly
  required.
  - Dog owners must always carry a leash for each dog (8-foot maximum).
  - Dogs are not permitted to chase, hunt, or harass people, wildlife,
  other dogs, horses, or livestock.
  - All dog waste must be picked up and removed from the property.
  - *Dogs must be leashed*:
 - In parking areas and within 100 feet of trailheads.
 - At Flints Pond Conservation Area in order to protect Lincoln’s
 water supply.
 - In agricultural fields which are used for food production, and
in pastures while livestock are on those fields.
 - Along certain trails at Mt. Misery, and in ecologically
sensitive areas and hayfields, as posted.

Re: [LincolnTalk] TEDx Walden Pond NOV 1, 2023 - in Lincoln!

2023-10-04 Thread Jessica Cooper
Hi again all!

This is the "last chance" email... we have just under 30 tickets left for
TEDx Walden Pond.

Go Lincoln!!

A bit more info: there will be live performances by Urbanity Dance and
original compositions for classical guitar, and topics range from "What is
your relationship to chaos?" to, "What Babe Ruth and the Boston Red Sox Can
Teach Us about Solving Global Warming."
I am particularly proud that we will also hear about innovative ways of
challenging inner city youth to see themselves as cultural and musical
change-makers rather than just consumers- and how one small community music
school does just that- by teaching all music theory classes and lessons
using only music from the African Diaspora.

[LincolnTalk] TEDx Walden Pond NOV 1, 2023 - in Lincoln!

2023-09-29 Thread Jessica Cooper
Dear fellow Lincolnians,

I hope everyone is enjoying the first glints of fall - it is such a
wonderful time of year!

My husband Nick Morgan <http://www.publicwords.com> was recently
approved to host the first TEDx series, right here in Lincoln, on NOV 1,
2023 starting at 5:30pm. The live taping of TEDx speakers will take place
at the First Parish in Lincoln, in the Parish Hall at 14 Bedford Rd. We are
working hard - helping to prepare 14 speakers (some of them delivering
their ideas for the first time), and organizing this inaugural event so
that it will be truly special. We wanted to share this news beginning with
our innermost circles, and work outwardly, giving the community a chance
to have tickets to this local event before publicizing it further afield.
So, here we are - sharing with you all!

*TED only allows presenters to sell 100 seats*, and at this time, 30% of
them have been sold (directly to the featured speaker's networks and
friends.) I wanted to send the ticketing link to Lincoln residents, in
hopes that any local person who wishes to attend will have an opportunity
to do so, since tickets will definitely sell out before the event.

The tickets are on sale now, and will be "officially announced" far and
wide starting early next week.

Hope to meet you there!

TEDx Walden Pond <https://www.ted.com/tedx/events/55639>

Warmly,
Jess and Nick Morgan

[LincolnTalk] Pup needs a home

2022-12-06 Thread Jessica Cooper
Dog lovers- here is a happy story, but one that doesn't have an ending
quite yet - maybe the Hivemind can help?
A friend who was recently in Bethlehem rescued a stray - and felt
compelled/ moved to bring the dog back here (even paying for the ticket!).
She originally tried to help (who was a mama dog to several pups) by
bringing it to the shelter, but over the course of her long visit - she
went back to check on the dog to learn that the puppies had all gotten
adopted, but not mama.
In short, she decided to bring the dog to Boston and find her a loving home
- and has gone to great lengths to do so.
The dog's name is "Koki" and she’s 2 years old - spayed and vaccinated.
There will be no adoption fee, only a meeting to ensure that it is a good
fit. Koki arrives in Boston on 12/25. You can see by the video that she is
a very happy girl.
Thanks for sharing- pics attached. PM me if you have a lead or are
interested in adopting her?

separated and labeled bags for those who responded in time. We are trying
to be fair, and hope that everyone takes only the bag with their name on

[LincolnTalk] good caterer?

2022-09-06 Thread Jessica Cooper
Hello Lincolnians!

I thought I'd turn to the list before digging in and researching caterers
for our wedding - do the fine people on this list have any local caterers
that they could recommend? Our event is in May, 2023, and we are hoping to
stay local.

Thanks in advance!

[LincolnTalk] re-purposing flagstone- ISO someone to help lay them

2022-05-10 Thread Jessica Cooper
Hello!

I hope to repurpose some of the copious amounts of flagstons we have to
make a small area off of our kitchen where we can put seating (can be
rustic), and would love a wee bit of help form someone with experience in
this sort of thing. I don't want to hire a landscaper (through a company)
but am happy to pay someone (who knows how to do it right) to help me!

The area is roughly 10 ' 10 and we'd be laying the flagstones on soft dirt.
I'd love to find someone who knows how to level it, and who can help lay
the flagstones in a way that they can settle naturally and be removed
easily later. Can pay hourly or flat fee.

Thanks!
