Re: Passing parameters to an autologged guest
You can also consider cmsfs, which will let you mount a CMS file system (minidisk) thats maintained under VM. Then linux can read a CMS config file during startup to control your apps, network information, etc. Just alter the script in the config file before startup to affect the characteristics of your server. If you say yes, it goes and uses XAUTOLOG to IPL those guests. Is it possible to pass a parameter to linux in some fashion that either tells the guest to come up in a different runlevel, or otherwise pass something that can be interrogated during linux startup that tells a script in /etc/init.d to do X or Y depending on the value. Where I'm going with this is to IPL a linux guest in a disaster recovery OR system maintenance situation where I don't want the automatic programmed start of WebSphere to happen because underlying items on z/OS are unavailable (RACFLDAP, DB2, Shadow Direct etc) at the time of z/Linux recovery. -- For LINUX-390 subscribe / signoff / archive access instructions, send email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with the message: INFO LINUX-390 or visit http://www.marist.edu/htbin/wlvindex?LINUX-390 -- For LINUX-390 subscribe / signoff / archive access instructions, send email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with the message: INFO LINUX-390 or visit http://www.marist.edu/htbin/wlvindex?LINUX-390

Is it possible to mount an IBM 3590 tpe dive to a linux guest so it is usable by tar, etc. ? Yes, it is. But you need SuSE or RedHat distro, IBM provides kernel modules only for specific kernels.. 3590 tape driver kernel modules are available only as OCO modules :( (Object Code Only) But it's working fine! Re: Válasz: IBM Tape drive
Hi, Kenneth. Detailed instructions for using the IBM supplied tape device driver can be found in Chapter 5 of the Device Drivers, Features, and Commands manual on the IBM Linux for zSeries web site (ftp://www6.software.ibm.com/software/developer/linux390/docu/l26cdd00.pdf Examples are given of setting tape drive on and offline, loading and unloading tapes, enabling compression, and copying a file system to tape. Good luck. Kenneth Libutti wrote: Thanks. We are running a SuSE distro. Kenneth C. Libutti CNE, CNI, SCSA, RHCT Asst. Director of Systems Administration Broward Community College 225 E. yast online update
For a while, I have been doing online updates using the sdb.suse.de/download link. This morning, I cannot do any updates. After I go into online update it tries to generate a list of mirror servers. I then get an error message stating that it cannot fetch remote server list. The details show: connection failed for URL: http://www.suse.de/cgi-bin/suseservers.cgi I cannot ping www.suse.de http://www.suse.de/ . Does this mean that the site is down or did the url change ? Re: Problems with qeth driver when disabling IPv6...
On Wed, 9 Nov 2005, Brian Bell wrote: SLES 9 qeth driver will not load when ipv6 is disabled According to Novell document # 10098152, I disabled ipv6 module from loading. The qeth driver now fails to load. I talked to Novell support about this, they had no work around about a month ago. It's an qeth issue, the IPv6 has to be disabled at compile time, so if you really want IPv6 off you'll have to compile your own kernel. Why qeth was written this way is a good question.
