GNU Unifont 8.0.01 was released on 28 June 2015. This release incorporates
changes that The Unicode Consortium made to Unicode 8.0.0 Basic

BMP.

This release also adds about 1000 newly drawn glyphs to the Unicode
Supplemental Multilingual Plane.

This version is available for public download at

ftp://ftp.gnu.org/gnu/unifont/unifont-8.0.01/

For a full description of changes, see the ChangeLog file in the source

SLES 11 SP3 error trying to install onto dedicated DASD

2015-06-29 Thread Michael MacIsaac
Hello list,

I need a system that has dedicated volumes. I tried to install SLES on it,
but got an error. Here are the steps I took

-) Defined two DEDICATEd 3390-9s in the user directory entry of a Linux
machine:
   DEDICATE 0100 18A2
   DEDICATE 0101 18A3
-) Logged on to it and set memory to 1G
-) Started a SLES 11 SP3 install, then to a VNC session
-) Formatted 100 and 101 in parallel on the "DASD Disk Management" panel
-) On the "System Probing" panel, got "Error: No hard disks were found for
the installation"

Has anyone seen this? Why can't the install program see the two DASD it
just formatted?

Thanks.

-Mike M.

Re: SLES 11 SP3 error trying to install onto dedicated DASD

2015-06-29 Thread Michael MacIsaac
Mike,

Thanks for the quick reply. The two volumes were activated, then formatted.

For a test, I just did a "#CP IPL 00C" to reIPL the install system from the
reader. I started another VNC session and this time I just did an
"Activate" of the two volumes and was not prompted to format. And now the
install systems sees /dev/dasda and dasdb, so I am good.

Just a hiccup I guess

z/VM, STP, Leap Seconds, and You

2015-06-29 Thread Alan Altmark
A leap second will be added to UTC immediately after 23:59:59 on June 30.

For those who want to know how leap seconds affect z/VM and its guests,
and how z/VM works with STP, please see my new article at
http://www.vm.ibm.com/devpages/altmarka/vmleap.html. A bit of history is
thrown in just for fun.

Comments are always appreciated.

I just ran a test with two ATTACHed DASD volumes. I didn't have any problems.
Keeping the contents of /var/log/YaST2 from the failed attempt would have been
helpful, but you need to also have SSH started when you start the install to be
able to do that.
