Re: SLES 9 in an LPAR
I have done exactly so but I don't have any performance problems. Things you should consider might include: - LPAR Weight compared to other LPARs you might have defined. - RAM for that LPAR. I have 8 GB. 512 might become a bottleneck (not necessarily but still...) - Do you have any other things running in your LPAR ? if so the relative share might be another aspect to consider. - I have 36 DASD (3339 cyl. that is, 3390-3 model) and the performance is fairly good. My system is a 2086-230 zSeries at 366 Mips. regards, José R. I was asked to install SLES 9 64-bit into an LPAR. To create the server I got my hands on the needed DASD and conducted the install of Linux under z/VM. The virtual hardware configuration (DASD and OSA addresses) were specified as would be used on the LPAR. As usual, the installation went well. The resulting copy of Linux can be booted under z/VM in perhaps a minute or two. However when I attempt to start this copy of Linux in an LPAR (512M and one dedicated CPU in an IFL on a 2094-313), it runs so slow you might think the software was written by folks in Redmond, Washington. It takes perhaps 15-20 minutes to boot. At times it seems to be completely unresponsive, even to the directly-connected HMC Operating System Message panel. I've encoded the so-called kernel timer patch both enabled and disabled, to no avail. And limited the DASD the kernel is to use with a DASD=- phrase in zipl.conf. But clearly I've missed something pretty obvious. DB2 Data Truncation
Hi, list. I currently have 2 zVM 4.4 partitions running in a zSeries. One of them is running in an IFL. Under my zVM IFL system I have installed: - SLES9 - DB2 ESE 8 and have connected DB2 ESE to my existing DB2 in the CP zVM. I have successfully migrated my DB2/VM database into DB2 ESE under SLES9 and I have connected DB2 VM with DB2 ESE to be able to query my database under LINUX. But to my surprise all the CHAR and DATE type fields are returned only half of their length, that is: - CHAR(20) returns a CHAR(10) string. - CHAR(9) returns a CHAR(5) string. - DATE returns a 5 char long date string. (e.g. 2005-) DECIMAL fields do not have this problem. Has anyone had the same (or similar) problem ? Any ideas will be very welcome. Greetings, José Raúl Barón Dpto. Sistemas CALCULO S.A. Re: I want to change Logo Config of z/VM V5.1
Hi, K. Luckily it's not too difficult. These are the steps you should follow: First you have to edit file SYSTEM CONFIG. This file is in MAINT CF1. To achieve this you have to perform: - Logon to MAINT - Vmfsetup zvm cp - q cpdisk You will see something like: Label Userid Vdev Mode Stat Vol-ID Rdev Type StartLoc EndLoc MNTCF1 MAINT0CF1 A R/O 310RES 0441 CKD 326360 MNTCF2 MAINT0CF2 B R/O 310RES 0441 CKD 361395 Ready; - cprelease a CPRELEASE request for disk A scheduled. HCPZAC6730I CPRELEASE request for disk A completed. Ready; - link maint cf1 cf1 mr Ready; - acc cf1 z Ready; - Edit SYSTEM CONFIG and locate the Logo_Config line SYSTEM CONFIG W1 F 80 Trunc=72 Size=426 Line=400 Col=1 Alt=0 |...+1+2+3+4+5+6+7. Logo_Config LOGOCONFIG -- This is the file that contains the logos. - Now edit your LOGO CONFIG file and modify it as you need, for example: LOGO CONFIG W1 V 80 Trunc=72 Size=63 Line=20 Col=1 Alt=0 |...+1+2+3+4+5+6+7. /*---* * Local Display Logo Definition * *---*/ CHOOSE_LOGO LOCAL GESLOC LOGO -- This is the file for the LOCAL LOGO. /** * Logical Device Logo Definition * **/ CHOOSE_LOGO LDEV GESLDEV LOGO -- These are the files you have to customize etc. etc. Once you finish: - release z (detach DASD 0CF1 DETACHED Ready; - cpaccess maint cf1 a sr CPACCESS request for mode A scheduled. Ready; HCPZAC6732I CPACCESS request for MAINT's 0CF1 in mode A completed. - q cpdisk Label Userid Vdev Mode Stat Vol-ID Rdev Type StartLoc EndLoc MNTCF1 MAINT0CF1 A R/O 310RES 0441 CKD 326360 MNTCF2 MAINT0CF2 B R/O 310RES 0441 CKD 361395 Ready; - Logoff maint and restart z/VM See z/VM System Administration Guide for more help. Problem connecting zVM 4.4 with DB2SLES8.htm
Hi list, I have DB2 under SLES8 and I am trying to be able to communicate with it from my z/VM 4.4. From my DB2/SLES8 I am able to federate it with a DB2/VM database perfectly. The problem arises when I try to do the opposite step: Communicate VM with my DB2/SLES8. This is what I have done: - I have updated my COMDIR NAMES file in accordance to my settings: COMDIR NAMESB2 V 255 Trunc=72 Size=62 L |...+1+2+3+4+... :nick.LNXP00 :service.50001 :host.197.10.1.8 :security.PGM :userid.* :password.* :dbname.LNXP00 Then I execute the following sequence under CMS: 'vmlink tcpmaint 592 592 B rr' 'set comdir file system comdir names B' 'set comdir file user comdir names B' 'set comdir reload both' 'CP det 193' 'pipe cp link sql089 193 193 rr'-- This is where I have CEEPIPI-CEEBPICI-CEEBINIT MODULES 'pipe cms acc 193 v'compiled as indicated in DB2/VM 7.3 Prog. 'CP det 195' 'pipe cp link sql089 195 195 rr' 'pipe cms acc 195 q' 'set language ameng (add ari user' 'sqlinit dbname(LNXP00) protocol(DRDA)' and this is what I get: DMSVML2060I TCPMAINT 592 linked RR as 0592 file mode B ARI0717I Start SQLINIT EXEC: 04/04/05 17:04:03 EST. ARI0320I The default server name is LNXP00. ARI0796I End SQLINIT EXEC: 04/04/05 17:04:04 EST Ready; So far, everything OK. The problem comes NOW. The next step should be to execute this: SQLPREP ASM PP (PREP=SQLDBA.ARIDSQL,BLOCK,ISOL(CS),NOPR,ERROR,NOPU,CTOKEN(NO)) IN (ARIDSQLP MACRO V) then I get ARI0717I Start SQLPREP EXEC: 04/04/05 16:15:51 EST. ARI0796I End SQLPREP EXEC: 04/04/05 16:15:56 EST What I really don't know is if there are still things pending to do in DB2/SLES8 prior to the SQLPREP execution such as to create the necessary catalog tables for DBSU. I just don't know. If so, HOW DO I ACHIEVE THIS ? Any help will be very welcome. Thanks in advance and greetings from Madrid Saludos, José Raúl Barón Dpto. Sistemas CALCULO S.A. LVM Question
I have currently a database in a filesystem located in a DASD. I would like to add 2 more DASD to this filesystem using LVM. Do I have to erase previously all the data in my first DASD ? or does this disk enhancement respect the previously existing data ? Saludos, José Raúl Barón Dpto. Sistemas CALCULO S.A.
