Thanks Mike. I figured it out. The Linux guest ID didn't have access to issue
SMAPI commands.

Expanding disk

2016-11-16 Thread Michael Weiner
Hi group!

I have created an LVM on root root and about a month ago I expanded / resized
it using yast.

I formatted the DASD
CreAted the partition
Added the volume to vgroot
Expanded the LVM and finished.

Today I went to bring up the machine and it was complaining about lvroot that
it was missing a disk.

If I followed the above process, why would the disk be missing?

Did I miss something?

Thanks!!!

Flashing REDHAT

2016-09-06 Thread Michael Weiner
Hi there

Is there anything special that needs to be done when cloning a redhat guest?
E.g I cloned a guest that has 3 disks which include some volume groups and at
some point after a reboot I get the below error which seems to me the device
name / id is wrong.

Error response from daemon: devmapper: Unknown device
c4dc6e6a42b0ee9af41a7361e1c6a85d6ff339d06fbdfc6537ec1c90e78a2a02.

Any suggestions or what needs to be done after the guest is cloned to get the
new ID?

Thanks!

Creating root LVM

2016-08-23 Thread Michael Weiner
Good morning all,

I was having a little debate yesterday and I want to get the experts on this
list opinions.

What's the best practice when it comes to the root directory?

Is it acceptable and recommend to create an vgroot and lvroot so it is
expandable?

Or is it recommended to have the root directory as a regular directory and not
expandable.

Thank you!

Formatting DASD

2016-04-22 Thread Michael Weiner
Hi all

Quick question.

If your traditional method of adding and extending LVMs is done by command
line and then you decide to add a volume and extend a specific logical volume
using YAST is there any implications?

Example

I created /usr/test with 10 GB using dasd fmt and the lvmextend command.

Now I want to add another 6 GB to /usr/test is there a problem with doing this
in YAST instead of the command line?

Have a good weekend!

Re: Cmsfs

2016-03-03 Thread Michael Weiner
Interesting, I just removed test and mounted my CMS disk to htdocs and it
is still complaining about the permissions

(because search permissions are missing on a component of the path)

The permissions of the files are

-rw-rw 1 root root 293448 Mar 2 16:48 MICHAELW.PDF

I copied MICHAELW.PDF ../

umounted htdocs

chmod 644 MICHAELW.PDF and moved it back to htdocs and it works

Still doesn't work when I mount the CMS DISK

Cmsfs

2016-03-03 Thread Michael Weiner
I think I posted my question in the wrong group.

Scott, thanks for your help.

According to the documentation the cmsfuse unmask command should be able to
change the permissions. Two things I tried.

sles12:/srv/www/htdocs/test # chmod 644 *
chmod: changing permissions of âCMSTEST.EXECâ: Function not implemented
chmod: changing permissions of âMICHAELW.PDFâ: Function not implemented
chmod: changing permissions of âPROFILE.EXECâ: Function not implemented
chmod: changing permissions of âPROFILE2.EXECâ: Function not implemented

I also tried

sles12:/srv/www/htdocs/test # cmsfs-fuse -o mask=644 *
cmsfs-fuse: Error CMS1 label not found!

Any suggestions? I formatted the DISK in z/VM with format 191 a and created a
label. I am a bit stumped.

Re: Corosync configuration

2016-02-08 Thread Michael Weiner
Hi Neale.

I am not seeing any errors. It seems like the servers are coming up fine and
corosync is starting on both legs. Since one server takes longer to come up
each machine thinks it's the primary and the other is offline in which I need
to do a openais restart on both machines at the same time and then it is fixed.

Corosync configuration

2016-02-08 Thread Michael Weiner
Hi all

I am working on a corosync configuration for hae. One of the servers takes
longer to start than the other and it is throwing the hae out of sync in which
I need to start and stop the openais service at the same time. Does anyone have
any suggestions?

Thank you!

Script after full system is up

2016-02-08 Thread Michael Weiner
Hi all

I am running SLES 11 SP3 and I want a script to run after the full system is
up. How can I achieve this? I am looking and browsing but I haven't had any
luck with rc.local.

Thank you!

Thanks. That's actually what I did for testing but for some reason I got a mail
in root saying two of my commands were wrong.

The script works fine. Not sure why

Slow YAST Response

2015-12-08 Thread Michael Weiner
Hello all.

Has anyone experience a slow YAST response?

For example, I am navigating through the partitioner and it is extremely
slow.

It takes a long time too load and a long time to do anything really.

Any suggestions?

I am running on z/VM SLES 11 SP3

SLES12 Question

2015-12-04 Thread Michael Weiner
Hi all,

I am trying to link a disk which I added to the profile of my guest and it
doesn't seem to be liking something and I can bring my device online.

sles12:~ # vmcp link '* 201 201 rr'
RPIMGR031E RESOURCE SLES12SP.201 SPECIFIED BY LINK COMMAND NOT FOUND
sles12: ~ # chccwdev -e 201
Device 0.0.0201 not found

Any suggestions? I am scratching my head on this as I can't see why that
would happen.

Have a good weekend!

NFS hanging

2015-11-02 Thread Michael Weiner
Hello all

I am experiencing a 20 minute hang on the errors below

Importing Net File System (NFS).

I removed the entry for this server that I thought was hanging and I am
still having an ISSUE from fstab. Is there a setting to change a timeout?

I also am getting

mount server reported tcp not available, falling back to udp and finally

Importing Net File System (NFS) CIFS VFS: Error connecting to IPv4
socket. Aborting operation

CIFS VFS: cifs_mount failed w/return code =
-110
Nov 2 14:51:18 servername kernel: CIFS VFS: Error connecting to IPv4
socket. Aborting operation.

Any thoughts or suggestions?

Thank you.

I added the name of my DNS server to my master IN A and PTR records and the

Let me try to teach you to fish. From VM:
 1. QUERY ACCESSED C
 2. You will see DIR or a virtual device number (vaddr) in the Vdev
 column.
 3. If it says DIR, copy the SFS directory name in its entirety and go to
 step 5.
 4. CP QUERY MDISK vaddr. Concatenate the last two tokens with a . in
 between.
 5. In your FTP session, CD xx, where xx is what you came up with
 in step 3 or 4.

 Example 1: SFS
 q accessed b
 Mode Stat Files Vdev Label/Directory
 B R/W 573 DIR GPLSRV2:ALTMARKA.TOOLS
 Ready;

In the above case, I would cd gplsrv2:altmarka.tools. If I am logged
into FTP as ALTMARKA, then I can cd gplsrv2:.tools, just as I could do
with the ACCESS command in CMS.

 Example 2: Minidisk
 q accessed d
 Mode Stat Files Vdev Label/Directory
 D R/O 893 121 TCP592
 Ready;

 q mdisk 121
 TargetID Tdev OwnerID Odev
 ALTMARKA 0121 TCPMAINT 0592
 Ready;

In this example, I have virtual device 121. If I try to cd
altmarka.121, it will fail since I do not have a 121 mindisk in my
directory. This is a disk I VMLINKed after I logged on. QUERY MDISK 121
shows me it is really TCPMAINT's 592 disk. So cd tcpmaint.592 is what
 works.

If the LINK to that disk had been in my CP directory entry, then I could
 have done a cd altmarka.121.

Sles12

2015-03-26 Thread Michael Weiner
Hi all

I came across something that I thought was interesting. I loaded up my
Sles12 install and did my partitioning and mounted the volumes etc. Upon
the installation reboot brought me to maintenance mode. did I miss
something?

Thank you

Re: Sles12

2015-03-26 Thread Michael Weiner
Hi Mark,

I have cleared the error. It seems like for some reason the DASD I have
added wasn't coming online. I issued mkinitrd rebooted and I am up and
running now.

I think I may have no activated it and I just formatted it as well.

Perhaps, or it could be a bug. Not enough information to know for sure.
What was it complaining about that it went into maintenance mode?

If that works, it sounds like you're missing the udev rules that specify
which devices to use. An easy way out is to use yast to activate the
 device
and have that build the rules and generate the initrd for you again.
