Re: Missing file for RHEL 5 installation???

2012-02-21 Thread Michael MacIsaac
Cameron,

I am making progress, but am stuck on this. Any suggestions?

Do you have a Virtualization Cookbook? It has step-by-step recipes
for many tasks including installing RHEL.
There is one for RHEL 5.2 (I don't think the install changed much in RHEL
5.7) on http://www.redbooks.ibm.com/abstracts/sg247492.html?Open
See chapter 7.

Hope this helps.

I had a similar problem when I used a Windows machine to host the
installation files. Windows doesn't understand symbolic links. If you
search the other directories, you may find the file you're 'missing'. My
solution was to copy the file to the expected location. If you have an
existing Linux system where you could host the files it would work, I
believe.

My saga continues all locsite fix 80 command allowed me to proceed
with my RHEL 5 installation. I am using FTP to a Windows server where the
RHEL5 code lives (version 5.7 for s390). I unpacked the ISO file in a
directory. When I begin the FTP installation, it seems to be looking for
an updates.img file in the /images directory. I have an /images directory,
but no updates.img file. I am not using the .iso installation file, should
I be? I was working with Brad using the exact same approach, only he was
using RHEL 6.1. My University does not have a license for 6.1, but does
have a license for 5.7.

I am making progress, but am stuck on this. Any suggestions?

Re: Missing file for RHEL 5 installation???

2012-02-21 Thread Pedro Principeza
Greetings, Mr Seay.

Have you followed the outlined steps on the Installation Guide, for FTP
Installation?

http://docs.redhat.com/docs/en-US/Red_Hat_Enterprise_Linux/5/html/Installation_Guide/s1-steps-network-installs-x86.html

It tells you that the files from 'images' and all the Release Notes shall
be copied to the root directory of the
FTP folder you are pointing your installation, and therefore your ISO
file, to.

Hope that helps,

Pedro Principeza
