RAID 5 with FAI

2006-11-08 Thread Jean-Paul BALOCHE
Hi,

I would like to use RAID5 with FAI.
My goal is to have a first disk with linux and an extra partition
"/datas"
With 2 more hard drives I would like to configure raid5 on "/datas"
partition.
How can I do this with FAI ? Is there any documentation regarding raid5
for fai v2.10.5 (11 july 2006)

thanks for your help ;-)

in /etc/apt/sources.list I have :

deb-src http://ftp2.fr.debian.org/debian/ stable main
deb http://security.debian.org/ stable/updates main
deb http://www.informatik.uni-koeln.de/fai/download sarge koeln

I don't understand what happened because it was ok several weeks before.

Can you please help me ?

Well,

Well, to start, some good news : I have configured a new fai server. Now
everything is ok for ata disk : I can install a demohost with ata, but
(bad news !) not with SATA.
The modules are now ok and they can be loaded.
When I try an installation with SATA, I've got those error messages :

setup_harddisks doesn't find any disk

2006-07-25 Thread Jean-Paul BALOCHE
Hi,

I contact you because I just can't make fai detecting my hard drives.
I have made some tests with a 160 Go SATA disk and then with an ide 40
Go disk and fai can't find my hard drive :
Probing disks :
Disks found :

Using config file: /fai/disk_config/FAIBASE
ERROR: could not read device /dev/
Mapping disk name disk1 to
...

I have read some posts on the archive and tried to make changes to
20-hwdetect.source regarding ata_piix and other things without success.

Have you got some idea ?

thanks in advance for your precious help

Module (version magic) and Sata pb :

2006-07-25 Thread Jean-Paul BALOCHE
Hi,

My configuration :
AMD 64 3000+ / 512 Mo
SATA 162 Go
Motherboard Gigabyte
Kernel : linux-image-2.6.16-fai-kernels_1_i386.deb

This is the first time I configure FAI.
The first steps are ok without any problem :
fai-setup is ok :
make-fai-nfsroot finished properly.
FAI setup finished.

then I have burned a boot cd-rom with DHCP option.
When I boot the client with the CD-ROM, everything is ok :
10-base-classes 20-hwdetect.source 50-host-classes are ok.

1/ Module problem :
then in the log console, I've got error messages regarding modules :

---
ipv6: version magic '2.6.16-fai-kernels SMP 386 gcc-4.1' should be
'2.6.16-fai-kernels SMP 386 gcc-4.0'
---

I've got the same message for : ide_core, aec62xx, alim15x3
amd74xx, cmd64x, cs5530, htp34x,htp366, pdc202xx_new, pdc202xx_old,
piix, rz1000, serverworks, siimage, sis5513, slc90e66, via82cxxx

and then I have those messages :
scsi_mod : no version magic, tainting kernel
...

2/ SATA pb :
the installation continue, it says it found sda hard drive, then fai
tried to create file systems :
mke2fs -q -c -j /dev/sda1
and then I have this message twice :

ata1: command 0x25 timeout, stat 0x50
host_stat 0x24
---
and the client is out of order. I don't understand why "ata1" !

Can you please help me, I have read many things on the mailling list but
everything I tried didn't change anything.

Thank you very much for your help,
JP
