I got motherboard intel 810 with AMR slot (AC97 Chib)

my modem is volcano winmodem on COM 3
the sound works correctly when working with ALSA snd-card-intel8x0

when loading that module it loads another modules like AC97 controller
module
the question is...

as the AC97 module loads succefully, why my modem aren't detected
though it has ICH82801AA810 chib on it and it's kernel supported?

when doing cat /proc/pci I got the following:
AC97 audio controller (audio_cotroller snd-card-intel8x0)
AC97 pci modem (unknown unknown)
so the kernel doesn't recognize which media type is the modem
controller !

I would be interested to hear if anyone has managed a full boot yet. My next

The last I heard, there were no Linux drivers for that card. AFAIK, the
only internal DSL modem with Linux drivers is the Diamond 1MM. (I've
got links to the driver at
http://www.rodsbooks.com/network/network-dsl.html, but be aware that
I've never used this product, so I can't vouch for its utility on a
first-hand basis.) You have four choices:

1) Don't use DSL from Linux.
2) Write your own drivers. (A search on Google turns up hits of others
who may be interested in doing the same.)
3) Put the modem into some junky old 486 or early Pentium, load Windows
on it, and use that box as a dedicated router.
4) Replace the modem with an external Ethernet-based modem. (Most
external USB-based DSL modems also don't work, although I know of at
least one model with drivers.) You can probably buy on eBay, then
sell the old one on eBay, for a low net cost.

Hi,

I'm extending a PCI camera driver that was developed for kernel 2.2.5, on
kernel 2.2.16-22 (RedHat 7); however the PCI include files have been
re-organised, esp as regards the pci_dev structure (linux/pci.h vs.
pci/pci.h, which does pci_find_device() return?).

Can anyone point me to a readable summary of the changes in the PCI
interface between these two kernel releases?

I have looked at the changelogs etc. at linuxkernel.org, and searched
elsewehere, but have not managed to find anything that approaches the PCI
interface as a whole in the above context. (I apologise if I have missed an
obvious FAQ.)

TIA,

Hi HW gurus, I am the (not proud) owner of an Adaptec AVA-1505AE ISA SCSI

upgraded to Mandrake 8.0 with the 2.4.3-20mdk kernel, and now I can't seem to
  get the board configured right.

Previously, I had run pnpdump, then modified the /etc/isapnp.conf file to set
it for 0x140, IRQ 9. isapnp would then configure it fine, and I had no
  problem
loading the aha152x module in as long as I specified aha152x=0x140,9. Now,
isapnp errors out with the following:

  Board 1 has Identity 96 12 5c 43 68 05 15 90 04: ADP1505 Serial No 308036456
  [checksum 96]
/etc/isapnp.conf:48 -- Fatal - IO range check attempted while device

/etc/isapnp.conf:48 -- Fatal - Error occurred executing request 'IORESCHECK

I've got the same prolem with an AVA 1502 AP
I've solved it by stripping off the CHECK option from the (IO...) in the
 isapnp.conf file:
  (IO 0 (SIZE 32) (BASE 0x0140) (CHECK)) --- (IO 0 (SIZE 32) (BASE 0x0140) )

Then the isapnp command works at boot and then it works.

But I still have to do the modeprobe aha152x manually after the boot but then the
scanner on the SCSI bus is found...
although I get the same strange register contents:

 Active IRQ 255 [0xff],255 [0xff]
 Active DMA 255,255
 Active memory 0x,0x,0x,0x
 Resources 0

 I am running kernel 2.4-2 (RedHat 7.1)

It seems that the /etc/rc.d/rc.sysinit procedure do the things in bad order since
in order for the isapnp command to be executed by it, I had to modify it:

 # set up pnp
 ##if [ -x /sbin/isapnp -a -f /etc/isapnp.conf -a ! -f /proc/isapnp ]; then
 removed
 if [ -x /sbin/isapnp -a -f /etc/isapnp.conf ];
 then added
 if [ -n $PNP ]; then
action $Setting up ISA PNP devices: /sbin/isapnp /etc/isapnp.conf
 else
action $Skipping ISA PNP configuration at users request: /bin/true
 fi
 fi

This means that the card is configured somewhere before the isapnp command is
 executed !!!
which probably explain the error when using CHECK while the device is active and
 the strange registers contents...

If you get more tricks about all this pleqse keep me informed

 I Hope this helps.

As you can see, it agrees that the device is activated, but I'm sure those
0x values don't belong spread all about the active port/irq/dma/memory
  values.

As you might imagine, the aha152x driver can't find the device at 0x140,IRQ 9
where I'd like it. Any suggestions on how to get it there?

Hello Mike , yes it seems there are some problems around with this driver
 under RH 7.2...

 You should use:
 $ more /proc/isapnp
and check the IO IRQ etc...
Probably they do not match the real settings of your card

Then you should use the pnpdump utility to properly generate the file
 /etc/isapnp.conf file
but get rid of CHECK options

please refer to the attached answerred I made in a previous thead:

 I hope this helps.

 Best regards.

Hi,

I still have problems with the VIA Apollo southbridge (Kernel 2.4.2 (Redhat 7.1) and
Kernel 2.4.4).

In rare circumstances,
there ist still file-corruption. I use an ASUS A7V133 (Revision 1.05,
including Sound + Raid). My tests:

- copying 4 GB of CD-ISO-Files from Promise Secondary Master to Promise
Secondary Slave. After that diff -r srcdir destdir. Test was
succesfull, no differs, even after 15 executions

- (same test with small files)
copying 4GB of small files (50 to 500 KB) from Promise Secondary Master
to Promise Secondary Slave.
1st run of diff -r srcdir destdir - no differs
2nd run of diff -r srcdir destdir - 2 files differ
3rd run of diff -r srcdir destdir - 1 file differs
4th run of diff -r srcdir destdir - 1 file differs
5th run of diff -r srcdir destdir - no differs

- I d did the same tests on the Promise Primary, same results. Also on
the the VIA Secondary but my feeling is that there are even more
corruptions.

I stripped the machine to the bone, PCI-VGA only, same results.

I cannot say for sure, but before I stripped my adaptec SCSI-Card, there
may even been differs after copying from SCSI-Disk to SCSI-Disk. Off
course I thought other parts of my Hardware was flacky (e.g. RAM...),
but I swapped everything: RAM from different manufacturers, IDE-Cables,
CPU (Duron 900 - Duron 850), VGA-Card, I tried the most conservative
Setting in the A7V-Bios, Bios-Update 1003 - 1004 - 1004 beta3, UDMA6-UDMA2 all to
no avail.

Any hints?

Subject: How do I Kill Netscape?
Date: Sat, 19 May 2001 19:17:34 GMT

I am running RH 7.1 and Netscape 4.76. Every now and then Netscape
locks up on me and it won't Close. I have tried Alt+F4 and Close
and Exit from the file menu. The only way I have been able to get out
of it is to exit and re-start X Windows Anyone know how I can Kill
Netscape without having to exit X Windows? I am using KDE as my
desktop. Thanks,

Lamar

Can anyone tell me why printer ports are not detected by Linux, neither on
installation, startup or by running kudzu.
I have an Oki4w printer, works fine on dual os (win98), is recognized by
 bios and by win.
However there seems to be some kind of confusion between systems , bios vs
windows, about beeing 03bcH or 0378 for lp0 or lp1
 In bios lpt1 is 0378
 In win lpt1 is 03bc IRQ = 7
It's all very confusing and I find no way of detecting whats going on in
Linux besides lp waiting for device ( lp0 or lp1 )to be ready.
 Any suggestion welcome.

Hi, Sten!

I have had problems with printing after I installed a SCSI-card, but prior
that it worked for me.

Can you print directly to the port? Try: ls /dev/lp0 at a commandprompt
and a few lines should be printed out.

Have you tried lsmod command to see, if the modules for printing is loaded.
parport_pc and lp should be present.

You can, as root operator load the driver for the paralell port manually by
the command: modprobe parport_pc

Try then to install the printer and check printing.

If it works then your problem is to get the parport_pc driver loaded at
bootup. Check that it is correctly listed in modules.conf

Sincerely Yours

Roger

agreed. they should shitcan this linux garbage once and for all.

if they never had released an x-server for the #9 i128-fp cards, then
I wouldn't have bought any of these displays. and there would be
nothing to 'whine' about since linux would clearly not be a supported
o/s. but they DO claim linux support. sorry you have a problem with
that (die-hard irix bigot, maybe? nt weenie?)

wow, news to me. you show me where sgi themselves specifically released
an x-server for full support with the 1600sw and the bundled #9 card...

i'll live with the IRIX bigot attribution.

(oh, and btw, xfree86 != linux. get that straight mr. troll)

who said it did? of course they are both cobbled together trash but that
is
