looking for a wireless pci card

2011-12-19 Thread Nitzan Brumer
After I've fought with bezeq and netvision for not getting the connection
speed that I'm paying for I've found out that my cart uses the RT250 cheap
and that this cheap is a known trouble in linux.

So I'm looking for a new card recommendation, one that works good under
linux.

Re: Hebrew fonts on digital readers

2011-07-04 Thread Nitzan Brumer
Buying the kindle: 139 $
Shipping to Israel: 40$ (no, you can not change that, fedex is mandatory)
Fedex Israel fees: 150 NIS (they charge the vat, handling, moving, storage
or whatever)

So, at the end buying a kindle costs around 760 Nis which is still 140NIS
cheaper than the eVrit, but far from being double.

removing the file poped up the "what do you want to use dialog again"
I've selected nautilus - and now I'm mostly getting a "can't open

Its looks like I've override the "file manager" application with something
else.

Didi - Sounds like an option, though which config file ?

Problems with ubuntu and default file manager

2011-05-15 Thread Nitzan Brumer
What a headache!
I've upgraded my Ubuntu 10.10 to 11.04 - and what a big mistake it was.
It took some time and I've managed to handle most of the things but there is
one problem that I cant manage to fix.

On the first time I've opened chrome on the 11.04 I've tried to open a csv
file and a popup appeared asking with what to open the file.
Didn't think it over and I typed calc - thinking about libreoffice calc (the
spreadsheet program)
Now, any file I try to open from google chrome (but not only from chrome) I
get a popup saying:
"
Failed to execute default File Manager.
Failed to execute child process "calc" (No such file or directory).
"
The same thing happens if I right-click a folder and choose open with ->
file manager.

I've tried everything to override this krap but with no success.
Its not under chrome settings
I can't change it through settings->default applications
Its not under ~/.local/share/applications

And I just can't open the files unless I choose save as and open them from
the file manager
The problem is that not all the sites gives you a save as link and some just
downloads directly to chrome cache.

Help, Please.

Ubuntu 10.10 and ZTE MF637 (3G modem)

2010-11-21 Thread Nitzan Brumer
I have the ZTE MF637 on Orange and I use it with my Laptop which runs Ubuntu
10.10.
Lately I've upgraded from 9.04 to 10.10 (clean install actually) and though
the modem do connect its take awful lot of time for the OS to mount it as a
3G modem.

The hardware recognition is almost Immediate and lsusb gives :

Bus 001 Device 004: ID 19d2:0031 ONDA Communication S.p.A. ZTE MF636

Also, the dongle has a micro sd slot and the micro sd card is spotted and
mounted on insertion.

But it takes up to 7-8 Minutes until Ubuntu's network manager shows the
"Orange 3g" under Mobile Broadband connections.

Any one got an idea as for why and how to fix that? on 9.04 it also took
some time but it was about 20-40 seconds, while now I'm counting in minutes.

Ubuntu + Orange - Usb modem problems

2009-09-21 Thread Nitzan Brumer
Hay all
Just moved from cellcom to Orange, and as part of the transfer I got a usb
modem.
The Usb modem is: ZTE MF637
and is recognized by ubuntu (9.04) like that: (from lsusb) 19d2:2000

Did anyone tried (and succeeded) to work with that modem? or is there a
better USB modem for linux?

Re: Connecting to the Internet via Bluetooth and Orange (Partner) Cellular Network

2009-05-25 Thread Nitzan Brumer
I'm using USB cable to do that, using 3g modem with BT drains a lot of power
from the battery.
But I'm guessing that you will have to do that:

1. hcitool scan - to find your cellular Mac address
2. sdptool browse Mac_Address - check the Dialup Networking for "channel
number"
3. sudo gedit /etc/bluetooth/rfcomm.conf
create a new BT object:
rfcomm0 {
   bind yes;   device MAC_ADDRESS;
   channel CHANNEL;
   comment "nokia ppp";
}

well, thats the first steps, than you should try to connect to your nokia, I
think you should select "pc Suite" in order to connect to the Internet.
That's what I did with 8.04 : http://n2b.org/archives/859

Re: Ubuntu Dok

2009-02-01 Thread Nitzan Brumer
Don't forget to check the cd integrity before you create a DOK and the dok
integrity after you create it - its not fun to find out that the install
failed just because of that.

Trying to connect to the net with N95 and Ubuntu 7.10

2008-07-23 Thread Nitzan Brumer
Hi to ya' all

I have a Nokia N95 in Cellcom and I've just upgraded my plan to the surf as
much as you want in 129 NIS a mounth.
Connecting to the net with my phone is very simple in windows using the
nokia PC Suite but becomes a terible headache.

I've tried the sugestions in this pages:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=492851
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=735018

There are few more, I cant find the links.
anyhow, writing pon cellcom (my script name) makes a connection over BT to
the phone but than the conection fails. I can't connect to the net.
It might be something in my definitions, Maybe I'm not punching them right.

Did anyone managed to connect a symbian nokia in cellcom? if so, I'd love
some help.
