further to my previous message, here's the output of traceroute - I gave up after about 5 minutes ! [root@shlomo1 /root]# traceroute www.kde.org traceroute to www.kde.org (213.203.58.36), 30 hops max, 38 byte packets 1 192-117-196-1.adsl.israsrv.net.il (192.117.196.1) 20.440 ms 129.710 ms 33.446 ms You seem to have an ADSL connection to israsrv. Since an Actcom user has told me that with his ADSL connection there is a significant difference between out of Israel sites and in Israel sites (about 50 kb/sec and 220 kb/sec) I wonder if you are willing to report your rates. Actually, are users of the other ISPs can report their rates? Is there a difference between sites in and out of Israel? I might be wrong but from my experience is that when comparing download rates one has to take into account the size of the downloaded file. -- Shaul Karl [EMAIL PROTECTED] Hillel used to say: If I am not for myself who will be for me? Re: is there a problem on kde.org??? - part 2
Hi! 1) There sure are differences between il rates and abroad rates. This may be due to: a) much shorter RTT inside IIX b) ISP's have more free b/w to IIX than to their Internet uplinks (especialy during the peak times). Note that with short file d/l you get slower speeds because of tcp slow start mechanism. I currently use BezeqInt and they are very slow at peak times. looks like a modem connection. Even to IIX i get slow response, heakups, etc. Dani On Fri, 18 May 2001, Shaul Karl wrote: further to my previous message, here's the output of traceroute - I gave up after about 5 minutes ! Re: is there a problem on kde.org???
I dont' want to be rude or anythign by it seems to become a custome latly to send to the list about every site which is down for more than a day.. linux sites or not I don't think we should get a daily report on which sites are down or not.. and the thread after I find it kind of annyoing if there is a problem with a site why won't people ask that question to the site maintainer or thier isp? this is hardly the place for it .. Re: is there a problem on kde.org???
Yes the site is down from yesterday night. You can ping it and see 100% loss. The ftp.kde.org is working because it linked to another server and its just a cname of the real server that KDE serves there ftp. I think www.kde.org is down because of upgrading or something but I dont know the truth. The sites are down for their reasons.
