Error in documentation?
linux/Documentation/modules.txt says that I should find my modules in "linux/modules" after running "make modules". However, this is apparently not true as I see no modules directory. I am trying to compile a kernel with lots of modules for a machine without a network connection. To move the kernel, I simply copy it to floppy and move it over to the other machine. However, for the modules, is my only choice appears to be "make modules-install" then tar up /lib/modules/kernel-release/ and then remove the directory. Is there a cleaner way to handle this? OnStream USB
Hello, I am considering getting an OnStream USB tape backup drive. I want the USB version because I have about 4 machines all on different networks that need to be backed up. Using USB would allow me to move the unit from one machine to another without rebooting the machine. I see that the SCSI version of the drive seems to be supported in linux but I can only find tidbits of information that don't confirm or deny this. Listed below are two sites that have some information which seem to confirm that the drive does indeed work, but I simply want to be sure. http://www2.one-eyed-alien.net/~mdharm/linux-usb/ http://linux1.onstream.nl/test/ Thank you, Geoff -- Geoffrey Gallaway || [EMAIL PROTECTED] || Clones are people two. Incorrect NFS_Config documentation
In 2.4.0 kernel's config help for CONFIG_NFSD: --- . In either case, you will need support software; the respective locations are given in the file Documentation/Changes in the NFS section. . --- However, I see no NFS section in Documentation/Changes. cs4281: dma time outs
Hello, I recently purchased a cs4281 based sound card (PCI, PNP). Under 2.4.0-test9 I get "cs4281: dma timed out??" at odd times. I can always reproduce this bug with mpg123 using "mpg123 http://cerebrum.dnalounge.com:8000/gronk/128". A split second of sound will play and then skip until I kill mpg123. The error above will show up right before the sound starts to skip. This also occurs with 2.2.17 but I do not see the error displayed. Any further attempts to play sound result in skipping until the system is rebooted. This problem seems to occur much more frequently when the files that are being played are coming across the network (NFS mounted mp3 share, etc) although I do not know if this is a direct cause. Is this a problem with the driver code for the sound card or did I buy a broken sound card? The system this is running on is a Celeron 300 (at 375Mhz), 64 Megs ram, IDE, ne2000 network card (ISA). Any ideas? I'm more than willing to assist in debugging this problem if I can... Re: kapmd cpu usage
My apologies to all on the list and Stephen. I should have thought before I typed. My concern was that this was a behavior that I had not previously seen in older 2.4.0pre or 2.2.x kernels... kapmd cpu usage
in 2.4.0-test9, kampd is taking up between 70% and 80% of cpu usage on my Celeon 300A box. This is a fresly compiled kernel, Ill list some stats: Celeron 300A Asus Motherboard 64 Megs ram APM enabled in BIOS Ne2000 ethernet card S3 PCI video card This is based on a redhat 6.2.. Any ideas? I'll be happy to do as much as I can to give whoever needs it better errors (files in /proc, better description of problem, etc). Just let me know...
