RE: PERC H700 and linux 2.6.33
There are issues reported with H700 controller and 2.6.32 kernel. Storage connected to the H700 controller do not get detected. LSI is aware of this issue and are pushing patches to fix this issue. Re: Alternatives to Dell storage?
oops, nm about infortrend. I asked their support and the JBOD units cannot be used with a regular SAS HBA, i.e. these must be used with their RAID units. However, some other vendors we've dealt with in the past who would know are HPCSystems, mpak tech, penguin computing, and microway. I don't know if anyone has used promise JBOD units: http://www.promise.com/product/pd_l3.asp?Product_Layer_ID=PRLA20060907001#SAS/SATA%20JBOD%20Expansion (bottom of page). ___ Linux-PowerEdge mailing list Linux-PowerEdge@dell.com https://lists.us.dell.com/mailman/listinfo/linux-poweredge Please read the FAQ at http://lists.us.dell.com/faq
DRAC 4 on CentOS 5.4 64-bit?
We purchased a refurb PowerEdge 1850 with a DRAC 4/I card. The default password doesn't work. In the past, I've been able to simply fix this by flashing the DRAC firmware, which resets everything (including the username and password) to factory default. However, doing so this time just upgraded the firmware version, and did nothing with the password. I tried just installing mgmtst-racadm-6.1.0-648, which allows me to run racadm. However, running "racadm sysinfo" gives me: --- ERROR: RACADM is unable to process the requested subcommand because there is no local RAC configuration to communicate with. Local RACADM subcommand execution requires the following: 1. A Remote Access Controller (RAC) must be present on the managed server 2. Appropriate managed node software must be installed and running on the Server --- So now I'm trying to install the full blown OMSA 6.1 (OM_6.1.0_ManNode_A00), but the setup.sh script reports that I have an unsupported OS. Any ideas? I just want to change the password on a DRAC! This seems like a heck of a lot of hoops to jump through for just that. I'm sure you're already aware of this, but just in case you're not: typically these are just covers for the drive bay, and don't allow you to actually fit a drive with them. I.E., they're this: http://snpi.dell.com/sna/images/products/mlrg/340-7475.jpg not this: http://img.auctiva.com/imgdata/9/5/0/2/7/9/webimg/330646427_tp.jpg I believe the official answer is indeed that you need to buy a drive from Dell to get the actual caddy, however 3rd party caddies or Dell spares may be available at a fair & reasonable price. If you think that's obscene, you should check out pricing on 1TB drives on Dell's UK site. Buying with a T410 you will pay £700 per drive - over $1000. Installing RHEL5 via DRAC
I am installing a machine in a remote location, using a DRAC. I have the iso on a local fileserver and am mounting the DVD via a windows workstation, located at the remote location, that I am connecting to via RDP. I have disabled all boot options other than VirtualCD in the BIOS. I have the network cables unplugged, except the DRAC. The machine boots from the DRAC ti the RHEL install setup. It asks me for Language, then Keyboard, then it comes up with: Installation Method Local CDROM Hard Drive NFS Image FTP HTTP But none of these seem to work (I know that with the NICs disconnected the NFS & FTP wouldn't work). Even though the DRAC is booting from the DVD and can see it, does it need to also have network access to see the iso? On the configuration page for the md1000, do the "Single Blank Hard Drive Filler"s allow you to put HDDs in them or do you actually have to purchase the lowest end HDD they'll sell in order to get a caddy? The cheapest option I'm seeing is a 500GB 7.2K RPM Universal SATA 3Gbps 3.5-in HotPlug HDD for $195.30 (obscene). Getting 15 of these the price comes to $5309.50 w/3 YR NBD warranty, rapid rails, no PERC card, and declined remote installation. Let's say instead you go with the infortrend jbod : http://www.nextwarehouse.com/item/?578910_g10e Get 16 Seagate Barracuda ES.2 ST3500320NS (enterprise class drives) $90/ea and your total comes to $5017 . I've seeing that JBOD sold elsewhere for as low as $3115. Yes, if you get one with a RAID controller it's much more expensive . ___ Linux-PowerEdge mailing list Linux-PowerEdge@dell.com https://lists.us.dell.com/mailman/listinfo/linux-poweredge Please read the FAQ at http://lists.us.dell.com/faq

And in the very unlikely chance that somebody actually does that, perhaps that person could also fix the code in that file so that nfs-mounted (or smbfs-mounted) share_scripts are actually executed (I worked around it by using a tftp share_script and nfs mounting what I needed in my script, but it was annoying). The code on line 203 only executes the startup script if $DRM_DTK_FOUND is not 0, but the code in lines 178-190 does not set this variable (only the code in the cdrom case on line 212 sets it. Note that it is not sufficient merely to set $DRM_DTK_FOUND if appropriate in the code in lines 178-190; you also need to move the initialization of this variable to 0 from line 201 up above line 178, or else the variable will get clobbered. (The tftp case works because there is separate code for that case to execute the script, which doesn't care about $DRM_DTK_FOUND). When fixed, the code might look something like this (starting at line 178, omitted lines marked as "..."): DRM_DTK_FOUND=0 if [ x$share_type = x"smbfs" ] && [ ! -z "$share_script" ]; then ... else DRM_DTK_FOUND=1 fi fi if [ x$share_type = x"nfs" ] && [ ! -z "$share_script" ]; then ... else DRM_DTK_FOUND=1 fi fi ...
