Re: PPoE Setup
In a lather, M.W.Chang blathered: adsl-setup adsl-start adsl-stop that's all I used. I generated two /etc/ppp/pppoe.conf and cp them to /etc/ppp/pppoe.demand and /etc/ppp/pppoe.persist respectively. I called adsl-start with the right one at different time. Thanks, MW. FYI, the rp-pppoe in redhat 7.x didn't expect you to use adsl-setup. she expected you to edit a file /etc/... which is less than trivial. Roaring Penguin's site has unflattering things to say about Red Hat's rp-pppoe. It seems RH can't resists hacking on everything, whether it needs it or not. Gee, what a surprise. I have _no_ experience with PPPoE, however from what i've heard, if you use Roaring Penguin, its quite simple to setup (assuming that you have a kernel that supports it). Thanks, Lonni. In a lather, Tom Wilson blathered: I set up Roaring Penguin on edesktop a little over a year ago and it was pretty cut dry. I had no problems. I don't use it anymore though so I'm not to sure about any new versions. Just the kind of information I was looking for, Tom. Thanks. In a lather, Burns MacDonald blathered: Yep, I use it. I use David Skolls' PPOE from Roaring Penguin. It works quite well. We had a small issue locally where we had to kick the modem everynow and then, but that was because of the Bell Nexxia network. The readme, etc that comes with the download is pretty concise and helpful. You may find that you have to power cycle your modem after you install it to get a successful 'adsl start'. I suspect this will vary fom modem to modem. I am using the AlwaysOn EA700. (I suppose I should do a step on this) If you have problems, let me know. Re: PPoE Setup
you didn't happen to be using Redhat? Her ppoe client in 7.0 was definitely not the usual one. I have seen people recommendating redhat users to kill the pppoe cilent bundled and re-installed the one directly from roaringpenguin. Net Llama wrote: I'll see what Verizon has done to ruin an otherwise simple process. Quite a lot, i assure you.
