It's downloading right now-

And if it wasn't clear to the non-2.5-development people out there, yes
you _should_ also test this code out even before the freeze. The IDE
layer
shouldn't be all that scary any more, and while there are still silly
things like trivially non-compiling setups etc, it's generally a good
idea
to try things out as widely as possible before it's getting too late to
complain about things..

I might report on what happens tomorrow, as long as it compiles and
don't lose my data. I'd have it by now if it weren't for my 28.8k
connection and kernel.org being down for part of the day.

yea, which most likely means January-ish. Also, odds are this new
kernel will be 3.0.0 not 2.6.0.

I'm not taking any bets on when it's cooked. We both know better. Once
enough people start pounding on it, well, the misfeatures will step
forward. ;-)

Beats me. You *should* be able to.

Great! It's not up to date (it says latest kernel release: 2.5.33), but
that's what I was looking for.

Thanks.

Money for what? Sure its going to be a significant change. The
architecture is different, it has new features, different bugs.

I bought the WS 3.1 to avoid the huge upgrade gap from COL 2.4 (kernel
2.2.). ... ok, we got gentoo and linux-from-scratch now, but I am not
ready for them.
