Re: who has suse 7.3

2001-10-30 Thread Douglas J Hunley

Ralph Sanford babbled on about:

Ordered on Tuesday Oct 23; received shipping notification on Friday Oct
26; SuSE 7.3 received and in my possession on Monday Oct 29.

That is received in Calgary, Canada, so it managed to safely cross the
border. If I have received my copy then other SuSE users in the states
should be receiving their copies at this time as well.

Unfortunately I will not have time to install it until the upcoming
 weekend.

would you care to make isos available? or no?

What's the final tally in $CA if you don't mind my asking.

I have not received the official conversion from VISA yet but using a
conversion of C$1.57 to US$1.00 it should work out to around C$125 for
the software and C$47 for the FedEx next day shipping for a total of
C$172. This is from SuSE.com. I would expect that Linux Central or
someone like that who will ship to Canada would be cheaper. Comparing to
a copy of Redhat 7.1 deluxe that I bought locally a couple of months ago
at C$140, I consider the SuSE to be a better product (especially the
manuals) and worth the extra bucks.

 same here - no luck.

Am I the only one who thinks that this business model of shipping distros via
mail is getting rather outdated?

Burning your own cds seems so much more convenient (saves lots of shipping
time) and a lot cheaper when shipping costs are cut out. Of course if you're
were desperate for printed documentation or something stuff like that could
be shippable.. but for the rest why not just burn your own cds.

I'm thinking of a payment method sorta along the lines of Mandrake's
donations page... but this time nonoptional and with a charge per gigabyte of
data downloaded from suse's ftp servers or something buy an ftp account
and transfer quota instead of paying for a nice box.

show me the iso's and I'll gladly burn them... just haven't found any
yet myself.

works if you have a credit card - I don't use them myself as the intrest
rate is absurd.

 nope.

Double nope. And waiting until just before the next distribution comes
out, to get a copy locally of the outgoing version kinda stinks.

It's paying more to have a company ship me something at bulk rates and
charge me 2 times as much as it would cost me to ship it myself that
burns me off.

Myles, if you pay 'em at the end of the month they don't charge
interest. ;)
