for DC Brushed motors, and the guy seemed to have no idea what I was talking

2008-09-25 Thread Bernie Crews
The event went over well, thanks to Ted and Andrew!!! for showing their
support and thanks for Neil and Sunstream who made it all possible.
It was well represented by our country commission, EPA, other Lee Co.
departments as well as numerous staff from Sunstream, the corporation
responsible.

There was an open bar and a great selection of food and snacks.
I will get pictures of the ceremony as soon as I can.

That is strange. A 40-mile car at pure battery is reasonable for some 93% of
the
public, but keeping the charge engine running is like running it on
gasoline.
Why not run 40 miles without charging, measure the voltage immediately, and
set
that as the engine start standard.

Mike,

I hope people are smart enough to see through that. What is the point of
ending
your trip for the day with a full charge when you are driving a plug in car.
What is the plug for?

"That drops the calculated fuel consumption to just under 48 mpg, because
the
internal-combustion engine would have to be run essentially all the time to
keep
the batteries near full charge."

about-the-new-chevy-volt.html

Reports suggest the Volt can make it through the EPA test cycle-which from
2008 includes high-speed running, air-conditioning load, and cold-start
tests in addition to the city and highway cycles-with the
internal-combustion engine running about 15% of the time.
The straightforward calculation gives the Volt an EPA fuel-consumption
rating somewhere north of 100 mpg. But the EPA apparently wants to certify
the Volt differently, insisting it finishes the test with the batteries
close to full charge. *That drops the calculated fuel consumption to just
under 48 mpg*, because the internal-combustion engine would have to be run
essentially all the time to keep the batteries near full charge.

as soon as that gets wide reports that will be the immediate downfall of the
demand for the volt. There will be many that will be able to beat that but
that will be the number one excuse by everyone putting down electric
cars

Re: [FLEAA] off grid

2008-07-25 Thread Bernie Crews
This is big business, involves the government and tax revenues. It's bigger
than big. If we develop anything we should keep it hush hush, between
friends ;).

Anyone looking for grants or good information on what is being funded should
check out www.floridaenergy.org

Below is an actual Solar quote I had in Nov 06 and it is for only 3000
watts. What kind of power and storage do you think we would need to make a
solar charging station?

There are state rebates and Federal tax credits, to offset the investment,
but in my opinion it is a way to get you on the tax list for later taxes for
generating electricity. Also the power company is required by law to notify
the Federal Government who is producing electricity, hmmm. They have made
lot of advancements recently in solar technology, a lot! Flexible panels you
glue on to curtains and house paint! Grid tie systems feed power back to the
grid during the day offsetting your power bill. No batteries and no power
for the house at night but it is a good way to get started, offset your
costs and be prepared. You can also grow your system slowly saving money by
adding panels and batteries later.

It is my understanding that solar power houses and EV's use their batteries
differently in regards to charging and discharging. The opposite way we use
them. Batteries charge from batteries rapidly like transferring fluid.
I.e... Two 12 volt batteries one full and one empty, connect them together
and the charge equalizes to 6 volts in each battery. The recharge to our
EV's could be pretty fast if the battery bank was 288-300 volts and could be
recharged fast enough, but I doubt you could get enough solar panels in the
area of the charging station and it sounds scary! Anyways, I am always open
for brainstorming.
