Agreed.

I saw these guys at TechEd this year and was very impressed with the lower
level of backup/restore that they have been able to do. I have recommended
their product to a couple of clients for additional Backup/Restore over what
comes OOTB with MOSS.

Cheers,

Guys

In no way I am promoting this product. I am just sharing my experiences and
making people aware of the tools available. There are so many “wonderful” 3rd
party SharePoint tools which can ease your deployment.

For Ishai Sagi: It just took me less than 30 minutes to install/configure and
get this running and I have been using this product for the last two years
without any problems.

About the complexity - you must have reviewed it for different purposes than
me. I know that their documentation on their site is (or rather - was. I didnt
check lately) for an older version than the one currently available, and a lot
of settings are undocumented, or documented wrong. It took a phone call to
their developers in the US to resolve the issues.

perhapts because you are using an old version it worked for you...

Built yes... implemented no.Sort of...

One requirement we have is to create a show sites I have access to. I
hit a stumbling block- permissions of the authenticated user don't allow
some of the site collection properties to be read. So while it works
perfectly for me as an administrator, it doesn't work for a user. I do
have an idea for a workaround but haven't had a chance to try it yet.

If you interested in seeing the not yet working code have a look at my

Re: [OzMOSS] RE: Farm level Site directory

2007-10-24 Thread Bill Williamson
My guess would be he wants a centralized list of ALL sites on the
Farm, not just on one web applicatoin.

EG if you have three web applications defined, each with 10 sites, a
central list of all 30 of those sites.

The way we have done this sort of thing (but with a different purpose
in mind) was using:
-a custom content type
-a custom feature creating a list with only 1 item (and event handlers
to cancel adding/removing... only updates were allowed) of that
content type
-a customized page which does a query for all of that content type
(using the search API, not just the default web parts)

As long as they all have the same SSP it works nicely.

OUR purpose was to allow sites to be typed and to have status
information, and thus you could filter based on this, but it would
also RESULT in giving you a list of all sites on the farm. If your
content type contained fields like category descripion etc then it
could REALLY serve to create a site directory.

Unfortunatly it's a bit of custom coding, but not too much, mostly
just the glue.

I can give more details if anyone is interested.

 Aaron,
that product is for sharepoint 2003 (atleast based on the video and
documentation available on the echo site).

Just wondering how many people implemented a master site directory, and if
anyone wants to share any interesting ways they used to do that. I have a
friend overseas who is looking for options for a customer.

Bill - this is exactly the sort of answer my friend is looking for - thanks.
Does anyone else on the list want to share?

Subject: Re: [OzMOSS] RE: Farm level Site directory
