RE: [OzMOSS] Error adding webparts

Probably worth looking in the logs (\Program Files\Common
Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\12\LOGS) to see if you can
find any more information about what is going on

Sorry, should've mentioned that.

Yes, I'm a full admin on the site. I've been creating the teamsites etc
for the users as needed. I have previously been able to add webparts.
This is a semi-recent occurrence.

Something which may be related - while I was on leave a few weeks ago, a
colleague tried creating a new teamsite, and got "Error. File not
found." After clicking 'Create' on the New Sharepoint Site page.

have permission to add webparts to the page?

Subject: [OzMOSS] Error adding webparts

Hi all,

We have an extranet that is using WSS 3. It is a fully "out of the box"
installation, with no customisations.

I'm getting an error when trying to add ANY of the default webparts
included with it (content editor, image viewer etc)

The error is as follows: "Unable to add the selected web part(s).
Content Editor Web Part: An error has occured."

I've had a look around on google, and the only results I've seen seem to
refer to having edited the web.config, however they don't mention how to
resolve it. I'm pretty sure the web.config file hasn't been modified,
but may be wrong.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Nigel

RE: [OzMOSS] tasks

2008-05-20 Thread Witherdin, Nigel
You have to add the field to the view being used to display the list (by
default this is generally 'AllItems'). Also, if you are viewing this
list through a ListView webpart on a page, you have to edit the
webpart's properties to point it to using the newly modified view
(otherwise it uses its own copy of the view, pre-modification).

I've actually got a similar issue to that in a document library. The
columns are all there, populated with metadata ('choice' fields) however
when you add a document (or try to edit the properties) the fields
aren't visible.

RE: [OzMOSS] Collapse/expand code blocks in Designer

2008-05-20 Thread Witherdin, Nigel
No, Designer doesn't support the "#region" directive, just like it is
not supported in .aspx files in studio.

I believe these sorts of directives can be used in pre-compiled code,
whereas aspx files are not compiled, but are interpreted by IIS as is.

I have an intranet problem for SharePoint. We have started using tasks
to organize ourselves. I have added a categories field to our task list.
It shows up in outlook when I connect to it. However, the field doesn't
show up in any views on the portals, not when I try and modify a view.
Any ideas?

Ahhh - I have never used Site Columns to add straight to a list (I would
usually use site columns to make up the content types I wanted) - though
I can't really think of any reason why adding a site column to a list
wouldn't work (apart from you troubles of course).

I would suggest that you try making the colunn up in the list itself,
and seeing if that solves your problem. If this is a common column that
you want to use in other lists in the future, you can always create a
list template that includes the column, and then use that as the basis
for you other future lists.

RE: [OzMOSS] Error adding webparts

2008-05-20 Thread Nigel Hertz
Hey all,

Thanks to Nigel's tip below, I've managed to get the problem solved.

The error in the Sharepoint logs is as follows:

Searching on that brought me to this technet article
. This explains why the error wasn't seen previously. The access
mappings didn't include the "https" url, which is what I've been using
to access the site recently.

Thanks for all the help guys

Sorry, should've mentioned that.

Yes, I'm a full admin on the site. I've been creating the teamsites etc
for the users as needed. I have previously been able to add webparts.
This is a semi-recent occurrence.

Something which may be related - while I was on leave a few weeks ago, a
colleague tried creating a new teamsite, and got "Error. File not
found." After clicking 'Create' on the New Sharepoint Site page.

Nigel
