[OzMOSS] Unable to access Page Settings

2008-11-18 Thread Aaron Cunnington
Hi guys,

Has anyone seen the issue of trying to access the Page settings of a
publishing page and getting Value does not fall within the expected range.
error

The logs show the following details about the page:

I am then getting the following error when AvePoint is attempting to do a
backup:

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Just an additional note, this site colelction had recently been restored
into the dev environment from production. This issue is only happening in
Dev, but apparently only started about a week or so after the site was
restored from Prod to Dev.

Cheers

RE: [OzMOSS] Unable to access Page Settings

2008-11-18 Thread Aaron Cunnington
Hi Paul,

You're a life saver! I had already tried the STSADM Custom Extensions but it
didn't seem to resolve the issue, however, after running up the FixLayouts
and stepping through it I managed to get that issue resolved.

Hopefully this will solve my backup issues which I believe this was causing,
time will tell, I may be posting for more help soon J

Cheers

Hi Aaron,

That's an easy one. I get it all the time. J

It happens when you restore WCM sites to another location. The Page Layout
source URL is not updated to reflect the new location.

There are several painful options I tried before finally coming across this:

http://stsadm.blogspot.com/2007/08/fix-publishing-pages-page-layout-url.html

There's also a standalone script here:

http://blog.thekid.me.uk/archive/2007/08/20/fixing-page-layout-urls-after-im
porting-a-publishing-site-in-sharepoint.aspx

Either one should work well for you. Hopefully this bug will be fixed before
too long. It's a right pain.

Microsoft Forefront will provide you with content filtering. I am not sure
of any other products which do this, would be interested to know though.

Someone at work asked an interesting question... can SharePoint screen for
bad language used in blogs? I've never thought of that prior to releasing
the company blog, I realise that there are sites out there which can use add
ins or plug ins. Has anyone dealt with this before? Can't seem to find
information on the web, although the use of ISA server may help.

Many thanks

RE: [OzMOSS] CQWP and group by folder

2008-09-17 Thread Aaron Cunnington
In my experience, this is a very good case for why it is a good idea to stay
away from folders and use metadata on the list/library, makes it much easier
to get to later. If the documents are grouped by columns instead of folders,
you can then easily perform the function that you need by using the CQWP
without using CAML.

Just my 2 cents J

Hi Michael

You can embed your own CAML code in the CQWP so if you have the right CAML
all should be good.

To embed your own CAML code you need to export the CQWP, modify the .wepart
file (QueryOverride property) with your own CAML and then re-import the
.webpart back into the gallery.

Use this as an example.

Subject: [OzMOSS] CQWP and group by folder

Is there any way, to use OOTB settings of CQWP to set filtering of grouping
of Document Library files by enclosed folders

I have Document library with name Reports, where they created not files,
but new subfolders Company A and Company B.

Now they want to show content of those folders in separate CQWP, but I can't
find the way how to achieve this via CQWP.

Using CAML Query I see that there are several fields, which helps me detect
in which folder files locate - FileLeafRef, Link FileName. But I can't
find those properties in Filter and Group items list of CQWP.

What items help me to filter or sort all items in specific document library
by subfolder name?!

[OzMOSS] Event Handler vs Workflow

2008-07-07 Thread Aaron Cunnington

Hi guys,

I need to have an item added to a sharepoint list, once that item is
added I then need to assign a task to each user that was part of a
SharePoint group. Once a user has been assigned a task and an email
has been sent, I then just need to be able to track who has accepted/
approved the task and who has not. The workflow task really just
needs to assign/create a new task list item for each user in the
group, I can then track the responses based on the Status and ID of
the actual task that was created.

Any suggestions on whether this should be an event handler on the
original list where the item was created or should we use a workflow?

cheers

RE: [OzMOSS] 2003 - 2007

2008-04-29 Thread Aaron Cunnington
It really depends on what you need to come across, if it is just documents
and not so much of the metadata like who created the document and when, then
you can manually migrate the content (how much volume are you looking at?),
if you need a bunch of metadata, such as created by and date etc, you can
either purchase a tool such as the Doc Ave migrator, or you can write some
code which can do most of the work. We have tried both, each has their
merits.

The code option can be time consuming (and therefore may be worth going down
the migration product route), but you can get to most of the 2003 content
via the web services, and then just have your app sitting on the 2007
machine using the MOSS api's. Custom built migration is difficult to get all
the history across (version history and history of comments on issues lists
etc) but if you only need the content as it was in its last state in v2,
then it is possible. If having all the history is required, look at some of
the migration tools, they can vary in cost considerably.

Good luck! :)

[OzMOSS] User not found error

2008-04-08 Thread Aaron Cunnington
Hi all,

I am having some issues with a client's MOSS site. When attempting to go to
PagePage Settings from the Edit Console, I continually get user not found
error.

I have also restored a backup of their site onto my dev environment and am
getting the same behavior on my machine. All other Sites that I have on my
machine are fine, I have removed all their users from the back up and am
getting the same error even though I am logged on as Farm Administrator/
Site collection admin and site owner, I still get this same error.

I can't see anything in the logs that help, although I do continually get
the following:

Has anyone come across this before?

Another thing, they seem to have done a few restores for whatever reason, I
am not sure if this has caused the issue. They have also lost their scopes
for search, so now they only see this site in the search scope drop down.

Cheers

Aaron

RE: [OzMOSS] Importing 2003 discussion boards to moss

2008-03-31 Thread Aaron Cunnington
We had the same issue, however, by saving a discussion board as a template
the content of the board is formatted as XML and can be semi-automatically
imported. To get the XML data:
1. Save the board as a template:
a. Modify settings and columns.
b. Save discussion board as template
2. Click through to the templates list and download the resulting STP
file.
3. Change the STP extension to CAB (a cab file is like a ZIP file).
4. Open the CAB file and extract the manifest.xml file it contains.
This has the posts in XML format.
This approach will work not only for discussion boards (although it is
particularly useful for them) but for other lists, too. We have created a
custom application that will import data contained in a manifest file. The
application must run on the MOSS server, this allowed us to maintain all the
data and metadata (created by, date, modified etc) into the new MOSS
environment.

Cheers

Aaron

Yeah sorry about that. trying again

Hi guys

I am migrating a portal 2003 to another server and in the process taking the
chance to move to sharepoint 2007 on the new server.
Since the existing
server has only on web app with very small amount of content i have exported
most of the content to spreadsheets and imported.
However, i have 2 discussion forums which I am finding a pain to migrate.
Essentially what i tried was to save the site as a template with content
included and import that into the moss web app as it doesnrsquo;t allow you
to export to spreadsheet.
If I go to site  settings
and upload the template, even after restarting iis the template never shows
up when i go to build a new site with it.

I did manage to use the stsadm tool to import the template however when i
select it for my site I get and error saying the template is invalid. I
think this may be because it is being saved as a list template not a site
template. Unfortunately in 2003 you can seem to edit anything in the
datasheet view and you can only sort lists or links etc.

I would have hoped that importing these discussion boards was fairly
straight forward. I have googled around for a while and havenrsquo;t been
able to come up with any good info.

I'd be very interested in anyonersquo;s feedback or help.

Thanks
Greg

[OzMOSS] WSS 3.0 Tools: VS 2005 Extension for 64bit

2008-02-26 Thread Aaron Cunnington
Hi all,

I have just taken the plunge and rebuilt my laptop with Server 2008 x64 and
installed MOSS natively on my machine, so far so good, very nice experience
(beats firing up VM's all the time, OK, so I am impatient!)!

However, I need to install WSS tools for VS 2005 but am unable to get a 64
bit version, any suggestions?

Cheers
