[ANNOUNCE] London PM Leadership Change

2014-08-08 Thread Sue Spence
Hello everyone,

After two years of stellar service to the London Perl Mongers, Tom Hukins
will be taking a break and has asked me to take over the reins for awhile.
I am happy to oblige, and thank Tom and his predecessors for the work
they've done for LPM over the years.

I hope the organisation will continue to evolve in new ways over the coming
months. I've been happy to see that social and technical meetings seem to
attract a few new people every month. We have a couple more technical
events in the works for the rest of the year and I'm interested in offers
to arrange more of these, as well as social outings.

Speaking of socials, last night's meeting featured 2 women and 0 Daves.
This is an utter Dave failure and I am disappointed in you all. The pub
was really good however, thanks to Michael Jemmeson for organising it for
us.

The leader is dead, long live the leader ;)
Hi Sue,

Congrats on taking stewardship. Speaking of Daves vs Women what is the
ratio for leadership/Reins holding?

My absence is, in a round-about way, entirely the fault of the government
of Armenia.

[ANNOUNCE] London.pm September Social - Thursday 4th Sep. - De Hems, W1D 5BW

2014-08-08 Thread Jérôme Étévé
Hi,

For our September social, we'll be heading at De Hems, which despite
being some sort of dutch place, also serves a good selection of real
ales to go with your frikandels.

Nearest tube is probably Leicester Sq. though we could argue Picaddily
Circus is not very far neither.

Tables have been booked for 6.30pm, and if you are a newcomer, look
out for our glorious kapellmaister Sue who will be holding the camel.

De Hems
11 Macclesfield Street
W1D 5BW

http://www.viewlondon.co.uk/pubsandbars/de-hems-review-11170.html

Cheers,

Jerome.

Standard blurb:

Social meets are a chance for the various members of the group to meet up
face to face and chat with each other about things - both Perl and (mostly)
non-Perl- and newcomers are more than welcome. The monthly meets tend to be
bigger than the other ad hoc meetings that take place at other times, and
we make sure that they're in easy to get to locations and the pub serves
food (meaning that people can eat in the bar if they want to). They
normally start around 6.30pm (or whenever people get there after work) and
a group tends to be left come closing time.

If you're a newcomer or other first timer (even if you've been lurking on
the mailing list or on IRC) then please seek our Glorious Leader out -
we have a tradition that the leader of this motley crew buys the new people
a drink and introduces them to people.

PS: Many thanks to Peter Corlett for the original inspiration for almost
all of the content above.

It also seems that there were more Daves in the good old days.

However, I suspect that the beer is better these days, and generally the
meetings are above ground.

Thank you. I didn't quite follow the last sentence, though. Daves and
Women are fairly well understood collections of individuals with no
observed overlap (so far). The other two terms are generally understood to
be roughly equivalent. :-)
