You'll surely note my non-SCA option above. Though fingers crossed, it
seems that tonight I talked someone into giving me an octane and some irix
media, so the disks are now back in circulation for exchanging for toys or
favours.

Indys take plain ol' SCSI-2 disks, so your drives are useless.

If you have 18GB or 36GB SCI drives for a reasonable price I may well be
interested in those.

How much?

If people are looking to consolidate, I'll quite happily exchange their
indys for assorted decent (18-36GB) scsi drives of the appropriate types
(I assume they're either SCA or 68 pin micro D) So if anyone wants to buy
one of the machines, and buy a disk off me for the price of the other,
I'll happily take the other.

Or if anyone has a use for a dual-channel sparc-happy scsi card (the
single-channel version is currently sitting in my u5) and has an irix box
they'd swap it for, let me know.

I *like* mine, but it's really beginning to fall off the end of the food
chain...

I also have an Indy. The hard disk has problems though, and I've no CD drive
or software, or space for it, so it's been in my shed for the last year :-(

I'd actually like to give it a good home where it will be appreciated and
cared for, and perhaps given a new SCSI disk if that is what it needs.

seeing i've been mailed quite a lot about these extras that i didnt
think would be as interesting as the SGI kit, the other stuff i have
for sale (just offer something _below_ but not a million miles away
from the ebay norm) are,

Microsoft Steering Wheel and Accelerator/Brake Combo
(happy to accept low price if someone hooks the pedals up
  to emacs for laughs)
VT220 orange screen, 0 key is off the keyboard but i think
i've got it somewhere - handy as a linux fileserver console
Icy Docks - removal hard disk units that have lcd displays
of temperature etc and extra fans.
Xircom double height PCMCIA card (no more dongles)

i'm also going to be flogging duplicate books, DVD's, computer games
etc on ebay, but if anyone is interested in any of this mail me for
a sneak preview at the list before it goes to ebay.

sorry to do this on the channel but i felt the SGI kit would be popular,
if anyone would like to share interesting SGI anecdotes that might
bring some content back to this thread.

[Advert] indy hardware for sale

2003-06-08 Thread Greg McCarroll

Hi folks,

in the next year or so i'll be moving house and my wife has suggested
that if the new house could contain a single figure of computers that
might be a good thing. So with the event of my new server going into a
colo i'm looking to get rid of some stuff. One portion of this is my
SGI indy hardware collection, which is as follows,

Skinner - Indy R5000 150Mhz 128Mb 1.7Gb SCSI 24bit GFX
Fowley - Indy R4600 133Mhz 28Mb 0.4Gb SCSI 8bit GFX
Silicon Graphics 20" monitor
Silicon Graphics 17" monitor
32Mb of SGI Memory
Indycam
2 x Silicon Graphics Keyboard + Mouse Sets

Fowley has been running very nicely as an X-server and runs just X and
x2vnc and x2x quite nicely. Skinner has been running as a DNS and Jabber
server. Both have been running Debian. However Skinner will not run as
an X server currently under Debian as I don't believe the 24bit GFX
card is supported yet so it might be better running Irix if you want
a desktop.

I already have someone interested in one of the machines and I'd like
someone else to also be interested, and then we can divy the bits and
bobs up between the 2 of you depending on your end use. I'm probably
looking for about 120 quid in total for the above and would hope that
all parties can figure how to split that up based on which machine and
kit they get. I can also point interested parties in the direction of
Irix media. Oh and buyer collects although i think the other party
already has solved this so it might be good to talk to them nicely.

Some of the less interesting stuff that I will be getting rid of
includes,

HP SureStore 2000 Tape Drive
AIWA External SCSI CD-Rom (a buyer of one of the indys might
like this, although both machines can install via the net
thanks to their funky netboot proms)
Sun Sparc Classic

feel free to make an offer on any of this stuff.
