Which raised the question in my mind about whether anyone sold carphones at

However carphone warehouse doesn't appear to sell even the ones that don't

Not certain you can still buy a Nokia N810, but these days (some) car radios
do something a bit cleverer than plain bluetooth audio: they *share* the sim
in your phone (via bluetooth) with their own built in GSM hardware and aerial
and become - yes - a Car Phone! The phone GSM hardware is actually disabled
whilst the car hardware has grabbed the sim and, on some models, if you (can)
use the phone itself, it effectively becomes the bluetooth audio device to
(what is now) the Car Phone.

The phone becomes the car. Like Transformers!

Yep. That's the one. Hey, I didn't go to them for accuracy, just a cheap
phone. :-)

Would they be in any way related to rackspace.co.uk - who will not sell you
space in their racks.

Pay as you go SIM cards are very cheap. Go into one of those

Yep. When I was last in London, I went to... Cellphone Warehouse? and
said, in effect, cheap phone and sim card. gimme. They did, and all
was well with the world a far as being able to make and receive calls.
And that was on Christmas Eve Day. :-)

The on in Eyre Street Hill, off Clerkenwell Road:

http://london.randomness.org.uk/wiki.cgi?Gunmakers%2C_EC1R_5ET

What that doesn't say is that there's also a private room upstairs (above
the front bar), which some groups (including london.pm) sometimes get to use.
The tricky bit being that it's up the stairs past the sign that says
staff only.

The solution is to ask the bar staff where the London Perl Mongers are, as
they know who we are (and are very nice), and will direct you upstairs if
that's the right place.

That suggests the evening of April 8th is optimal. The Gunmakers is an old

Shall I warn the landlord?

2013-03-20 Thread James E Keenan

Perl friends,

I am planning a rare (for me) transatlantic crossing to participate in
the 2013 Perl QA Hackathon, to be held in Lancaster Fri-Sun, Apr 12-14.
I'm going to prepend that with some pure vacation days, some or all of
which will be spent in London. I would like to have the opportunity of
attending my first London.pm social meeting during that stay.
