[luau] How to dispose of Win 2K license on new linux machin
You are exactly right. However, if you go to law school, one of the first courses you would study is that, not too long ago, the Supreme Court held that slavary was legal and constitutional in the U.S. I am picking on you again, Eric. Really didn't mean it. :-)
[luau] Oceanic Linux Mirror
If Oceanic is providing the bandwidth, perhaps we can try to operate on a grander scale? E.g., a Mandrake Hawaii "franchise" (i.e., utilizing Mandrake's urpmi)? Or even an experimental Linux thin-client for RoadRunner customers?
[luau] Have a drink at the Elks?
I don't think I am allowed to disclose the membership fees in public. But I'll try to give you an idea. The Outrigger Club, which is right next door, has an initiation fee of $10K (a couple of years ago it charged $5K if you are under 40). The initiation fee at Elks is about an order of magnitude lower. Most other clubs also require a monthly fee and minimum consumption of at least a couple of hundred dollars. That will be good enough to pay for the whole year at Elks. If you have friends/clients/relatives/clients from the mainland or foreign countries, taking them to Elks on a late winter afternoon (to watch sunset) will give them the most memorable experience (especially if they stay in a posh hotel in Waikiki). At least that's what I have been told. Time after time.
Re: [luau] Capturing Postscript from Open Office
Ben, I do this all the time - I use the steps you mentioned, but I haven't had to set up a special printer driver. The printer is listed as "generic printer", but does have postscript-associated settings in its properties. After checking the Print To File box, I just select postscript as the file type, and save the file with a .ps extension. It's so easy, that I have to wonder if there's a deeper configuration problem with your system that is blocking your success. Good luck, -Jeff Ben Beeson wrote: Aloha, I need to save an open office file in .ps format and I can't figure out how to do it. It seems like I should be able to "print to file" using a post script printer driver, but I can't figure out how to do that with in Linux. Any ideas? Thanks, Ben

[luau] Oceanic Linux Mirror - Donations Needed
Thanks to Doug Stanfield and Jeff Wong at Oceanic for agreeing to host a Linux mirror at Oceanic. When this mirror is installed, it will allow uncapped bandwidth to Oceanic and Hawaii Roadrunner clients, which would mean even faster and more reliable Linux downloads than Videl for these people. Unfortunately our upload cap to non-Oceanic networks will be fairly low, so we will not be able to handle FTP clients from other ISP's. This however will alleviate a large amount of load on Videl, allowing others to use more capacity from the University. I plan on donating one of my personal mini-towers to be this mirror server, but I would appreciate it if other people can donate RAM or a large IDE hard drive. This motherboard can have 3 sticks of 256MB ECC non-registered PC133 SDRAM. I already have one stick. Large IDE hard drive. This motherboard has a Promise Ultra66 controller which supports I think up to 120GB, though any size like 60 or 80GB would be good. Let me know if you want to contribute money to sponsor part of a large hard drive, I will cover the rest. Any other Internet providers out there willing to host a mirror? Please let me know and I will help you configure it. Thanks, Warren Togami [EMAIL PROTECTED]

They don't want to get rid of the Laserjet 4 printers for a while because they bought tons of extra toner for that model. I still cannot figure out how to make it make the device nodes later on (including hdparm -z, the whole block device doesn't exist, not just individual partitions). Would /usr/sbin/kudzu fix this??? Not running redhat, but it seems to be a kernel issue. The kernel sees the drive at startup (ATAPI floppy) but doesn't see a partition table or any media, so it makes no device node. This could probably be remedied by compiling ATAPI floppy support as a module and loading it when needed (after a disk has been inserted). --MonMotha pgpI1xyNFMNVf.pgp Description: PGP signature
