I am sorry I was unable to attend your presentation, I am sure it was fantastic.

Could you please post your slide deck somewhere; I would love to take a look.

I'll also be giving away some nice swag (shirt, poster, bag, stickers,
pen & balsa flyer) from the conf. It'll be a drawing at the end.

Speaker: Michael Bishop

Bio: Michael is a lifelong student of technology and Free/Open Source
Software

Presentation: Michael just returned from PyCon 2008 held in Chicago and
says that there was so much going on there that he barely had time to
sleep. He'll spend the first part of his presentation walking us through
some of the best parts of the conference. Then he'll be talking about
Python 3000 -- what's the big deal, what we should expect and how to
prepare. Finally, he'll be showing off a bit of Python and Django - the
Python web framework.

For those of you who haven't been exposed to the programming language
Python, this will be an excellent way to find out from a skilled
educator how this simple (to learn and to maintain) yet powerful Object
Oriented programming language can be easily and freely installed on
Windows, Mac and Linux computers and help you to be more productive and
have fun at the same time!

Directions to the event:
Take Dole Street Koko Head bound (East) and turn Mauka (toward the
mountains) on East West Rd. Take the first possible left turn onto an
unnamed access road and park in Lot #11. If there is a guard in the
kiosk there, just mention that you're there to attend the "Open Source
Pizza" presentation.

A campus map can be found at http://manoa.hawaii.edu/map/uhmmap.pdf The
Marine Sciences Building and parking lot with Entrance Kiosk are at C4
on that map.

Software (FOSS). Tonight is no different as we welcome Emil Reyes and
his discussion of Blender.

Join Emil Reyes of RAPID Technology for a discussion on free 3D
modeling/animation software that can be used for everything from
education to business and entertainment. Learn about free software that
is powerful enough to make professional quality animated movies, design
machinable parts and even make your own video games. Emil will speak
about different open source applications and how their use is growing.
Emil will also focus on his favorite open source software, Blender 3D,
demonstrate its use and talk about its potential in Hawaii.

If you truly care about the future of Hawai`i, you may want to ask
yourself, 'Is the technology engine in our Public Schools well
engineered, or is it in need of an overhaul?' Do you know what it is
like to be on the front line of tech support and implementation in
today's schools? Join us for a discussion with Tech Coordinators
responsible for the most difficult of teaching tasks - integrating

A discussion of how Free and Open Source Software will foster innovation

rising fuel prices.

Topic for September 20, 2005

Novell is moving full force into the world of Open Source Software
(OSS). With partners like IBM, HP, Dell, Oracle, Intel, and many others
Novell is quickly making headway into this new market place. While
being a standards based company in its own right Novell continues that
effort and assures its customers and partners that it intends to deliver
standards based solutions that interoperate with existing and new
technologies.

Join us to find out about Novell's internal migration to Linux and to
hear some intriguing case studies.

About the speakers:

Brian Six finished high school with a focus in computers and computer
networking architecture. After college with a CS in Computer Science he
began working with a software company as a programmer. During his time
at the software company he moved from programmer/developer to designer.
After 4.5 yrs Brian left the software design field to begin working at
a systems integrator performing network designs and installations.
During his 4 yrs there he was promoted to senior networking engineer
over LAN and desktop environments. Since then Brian has worked at
Novell for 9 yrs as a Senior Systems Engineer delivering presentations
and solutions evaluations to customers, partners, and marketing events.

In college John Neilson initially studied to become a computer science
major where he learned Fortran, Pascal and Basic programming. During
his course of study he recognized his real interest was in business and
how computers could benefit companies. John graduated with a Bachelor
degree in Business with an emphasis in Sales Management. For the past
fifteen years John has sold technology as a VAR, Distributor, and
end-users sales representative. John has been directly or indirectly
involved in selling enterprise solutions which include HP-UX, DEC, AIX,
EMC, Oracle, E-Commerce, LINUX, Resource Management and Identity Driven
solutions. John has been with Novell for the past 2½ years where he
works with Novell business partners to sell to his 3000 accounts in the
Los Angeles, Orange County and Hawaiian Islands territory. This
November, John will complete his MBA in Technology Management from the
University of Phoenix.
