Re: [Lubuntu-desktop] A question

2011-08-12 Thread Lance
I see some of the info on the linked pages is out of date, specifically:

http://qa.ubuntu.com/testing/iso-testing/

You'll notice it refers to "You can check at the Lucid Schedule that there was
an Alpha 1, Alpha 2, Alpha 3 ..".

I do know the Lubuntu desktop image appeared on the tracker for Oneiric Alpha 3:

http://iso.qa.ubuntu.com/qatracker/

Although there were no alternate or upgrade tests listed we're gaining.

Keeping documentation updated is a huge challenge, one that I lack both the
time and skills to tackle :^(

Hi, QA,
A couple of people have stated that Lubuntu is not 'really' on the ISO testing
area, one simple example would be http://qa.ubuntu.com/ which does not even
list xubuntu?

I am struggling to send people who would like to get involved in QA when they
return to me to say "the site does not work".
If there are any wiki edits that you need to live and active pages I would be
more than happy to get them there. (I also have a gang of people who would love
this in their resumee).

Regards,
Phill.

Re: [Lubuntu-desktop] lxshortcut integration in pcmanfm PATCH

2011-08-12 Thread Phill Whiteside
I have tested this with leszek,

Of course I chose an CLI operation - it did not like that.

With popping on a 'standard' desktop app (leafpad) it worked fine.

For people wanting to add apps to the desktop, this patch is good to go.
Asking shortcuts to launch CLI stuff has always been a little more
complicated -- I do have the instructions somewhere, but us people wanting
CLI should really know how to launch them :)

As it is an FAQ for adding a desktop icon and our present work around is, to
say the least, involved. I would like this bug fix to be added.

regards,

Phill.

[Lubuntu-desktop] [Bug 697694] Re: Lubuntu installation crashes

2011-08-12 Thread Brian Murray
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Reviewing your log files attached to this bug report it
seems that there is a problem with your installation media (CD/DVD).
Please retry your installation with new media and if it still fails I'd
recommend testing your CD drive with other media. In the event that is
is not in fact an error with your installation media please set the
bug's status back to New. Thanks and good luck!

  Lubuntu installation crashes

Status in “ubiquity” package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: ubiquity

I tried installing Lubuntu 10.10 but the installation crashed and it
said to report a bug with two files attached: partman, and syslog. The
thing is that I can only attach one file, how do I attach the other.

[Lubuntu-desktop] lxshortcut integration in pcmanfm PATCH

2011-08-12 Thread Leszek Lesner
Hi folks,

I created a little patch which creates a new menuitem in the new menu called
Shortcut.
When its called it will execute
lxshortcut -i
I originally created this patch for ZevenOS-Neptune and the debian version of
pcmanfm (which seems to be an older version).
I hope this patch works also for the ubuntu package and the newer version and
is useful until a 'real' integration for desktop creation is done in pcmanfm /
libfm.

Re: [Lubuntu-desktop] forum area

2011-08-12 Thread Phill Whiteside
"should development releases be limited to those who have at least a basic
understanding what the word development means?" ;^)

That would rule me out as well :P

I do know our devs do strive to keep the release notes up to date on the
testing area. It is unfair to ask that they release to the many forums. Any
of us are welcome to update the testing area and it should, IMHO, be the
area that any forum posts etc refer back to. We have a great ML for lubuntu,
we can discuss 'what is a bug' within our own team, but as we go viral - we
are going to have to use lp for bugs and the wiki for testing else I fear we
will end up with one area saying one thing and another something else.

Regards,

Phill.
