[Lubuntu-desktop] Use xcompmgr in Lubuntu

2011-09-18 Thread Stefano
Hi everybody, i'm trying xcompmgr on my Lxde desktop, and it's very nice!
It uses few RAM (2,5 mb on my 64 bit system) and can provide cool
fade-in/out effects for menus and windows.

I've tried this configuration:

xcompmgr -cfC -D 5

then i removed the Show animation during maximize or minimize in
openbox configuration manager. the result is simple but cool and can
help to remove the Win XP effect that lxde produce (somebody think, IMO
lxde is the best gtk DE ever!).

Please think about the possibility to include xcompmgr by default in
lubuntu.

Regards

Stephen Smally

Re: [Lubuntu-desktop] ozone2 theme finally fixed!

It's done! I've found it. Unico engine has a great and annoying
bug showing menubar background colour white, like text, making it
unreadable (with several themes, believe me I've tested 10 or more
  with the same problem).

Now the theme has a corrected (or tweaked, if you prefer) menubar
background for GTK3 apps. And remember I've changed the taskbar
buttons too, and removed some unnecessary files, so you (Julien)
will need to update everything (even delete the old one's whole
folder). I know, this is annoying, but I think it's the best
  solution.

Read the changes list here. Have a look at
  this screenshot.
  Wiki
updated with the fixed theme (of course). Feel free to test it.
  Feedback apreciated :)

  Cheers!

Great, just tested and it seems to work fine :)

While testing, I found another strange behavior. When launching some
application (file-roller for example) in a terminal, I have some
message like this :

Theme parsing error: gtk-bars.css:223:16: Themeing engine 'adwaita'
not found

It seems that there is some references to the adwaita engine, but I
can't find this engine. Is this can't be done with unico also ?

Julien Lavergne

Re: [Lubuntu-desktop] Use xcompmgr in Lubuntu

2011-09-18 Thread 神癒礁湖
We did. But using xcompmgr is complicated and can fail. There's a big
problem using some apps with it. Try to drag an icon from a window to
the desktop and you'll see the flickering. If you do this too many times
the Openbox will crash. This is a xcompmgr bug, and its development
seems to be stopped.

And for using a composite manager we need a nice front-end for
configuring it. It's very difficult for newcomers open a terminal and
type commands. This is too geek :)

Cheers!

Re: [Lubuntu-desktop] Use xcompmgr in Lubuntu

2011-09-18 Thread Jean-Pierre Vidal Piesset
I did some adventuring with xcompmgr too a while ago, and it was almost like
if it was not there with the apropriate configuration (on a 730mhz machine
with 512 ram) but when i watched the log, just like rafael said, there was a
lot of bugs, plus chromium doesn't like this app at all last time i checked.
Searching a little bit i can confirm (2 months ago) xcompmgr is not
maintained since long time.

And for using a composite manager we need a nice front-end for configuring
it. It's very difficult for newcomers open a terminal and type commands.
 This is too geek :)

It's a good idea to use this, but Rafael is right :/

[Lubuntu-desktop] Up coming adoption

2011-09-18 Thread Phill Whiteside
Hi,

as ever, we approach full adoption with the mass off a run-away train.
Nothing can stop us now :)

But, as ever, there are finer points and sub clauses to be met. One being
IRC. The majority of you will be blissfully unaware that the ubuntuIRCouncil
have had access to #lubuntu as OP's. They now ask that

The current list of core channels is here:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/IRC/IrcTeam/Scope - the concept core channel
is defined there as well. Now that Lubuntu will be an official Ubuntu
derivative, the related support and offtopic channels should be added
there.

As you say above, the channels have pretty much everything set
already. The biggest change that I can quickly think of is that
#lubuntu operators should join #ubuntu-ops and idle there once Lubuntu
becomes official.

--
Juha Siltalahttp://ubuntu.com

The alteration being that those who are OP on #lubuntu do auto-join
the #ubuntu-ops area and be recognised. If any one wants to chicken
out having OP status on #lubuntu, now is the time to squeal. In three
days time I will pass on our list to the ubuntu-irc people for them
all to be acknowledged. (He did say idle... it is a case of just being
there and flying the flag, although we who know DE know that we can be
asked onto areas to help out).

Regards,

Phill.
