Re: [Lubuntu-desktop] [12.04] Firefox instead of Chromium?
I have a P4 PC with 512MB RAM but I can drop that to 256. I'm ready for such tests ;) Also, I think it's important to ask the users to vote for that, not only us. I can start a thread on Ubuntu Forum but I need to hear first from Julien and others about that. Re: [Lubuntu-desktop] [12.04] Firefox instead of Chromium?
I'm not very fan of a change unless we have a strong consensus for another browser. But, this is my opinion : - We should only consider Chromium or Firefox, because they have a strong upstream and are well maintained. Browser is a very important part of a system, and we really don't have time to do maintenance on it. Adopting Midori for example, means we have to do the maintenance on Ubuntu (triage bugs, testing, maybe some packaging ...). - Benchmark are needed, because just saying it's light, doesn't mean it's always light. Also, the memory usage for Chromium is special, because it shares memory (there is an article from a dev of Chromium somewhere in the Web which explain it). - Finally, it needs to be light on old hardware. Remember, it's the main target for Lubuntu. So far, Chromium seems better on this type of machine. So far, I don't see advantages to switch to Firefox. Of course, if the benchmarks show a real difference, I may reconsider my opinion. Just a question. Are we going to use some kind of tools/apps to do these tests? or we'll go for the manual approach? I mean just open LXTask and take the figures from there? I'm going to do a fresh install for Lubuntu 11.10, run apt-get update and then apt-get upgrade, install Firefox and make sure both browsers are up-to-date then start some tests. We need to use the same tool/app for that. LXTask, Terminal, etc? Thanks! Re: [Lubuntu-desktop] New LXKeymap version with autostart support
Hello Leszek, Kindly have a look at this: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1874069 Thanks! On Wed, Nov 2, 2011 at 6:33 PM, Leszek Lesner leszek.les...@web.de wrote: Hi, as I got a lot of requests to implement an autostart feature for lxkeymap I did it. LXKeymap 0.5 is now capable to store its keymap configuration into a file that it reads out during autostart. Therefore I wrote a little *.desktop file that I put in the global /etc/xdg/autostart which contains the new command lxkeymap -a to trigger the autostart function of lxkeymap. The Keymap configuration will be stored locally in your home directory ( ~/.config/lxkeymap.cfg) and is easily editable either by using lxkeymap and set a new keymap or by editing it by hand. You can get this version from here: http://content.wuala.com/contents/leszek/Dokumente/Share/lxkeymap_0.5-0ubuntu1_all.deb?dl=1 If you notice any bugs then report them here: http://launchpad.net/lxkeymap Also I guess there is a bug in lxdm, because changing the keyboard layout in the session and logging out to lxdm does not restore the global keymap but uses the one choosen in the session. This could be also fixed by simply calling lxkeymap -a from within lxdm but as lxkeymap uses only a local configuration it would then create and use the root accounts .config/lxkeymap.cfg file. So you need to create this first by executing lxkeymap as root if you want to have a different keymap globally+lxdm and your user accounts. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~lubuntu-desktop Post to : lubuntu-desktop@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~lubuntu-desktop More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp -- Best Regards, *A.J amjjawad* Lubuntu One Stop Thread (Mega Thread)http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1844755 My Blog http://amjjawad.wordpress.com | My Wiki Pagehttps://wiki.ubuntu.com/amjjawad| My Launchpad https://launchpad.net/%7Eamjjawad | My Ubuntu Forum Profilehttp://ubuntuforums.org/member.php?u=941822 *~ My Actions Speak Louder Than My Words || ** I walk by faith, not by sight **|| Imagination is more important than Knowledge || **Keep It Simple and Short** ~ * ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~lubuntu-desktop Post to : lubuntu-desktop@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~lubuntu-desktop More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

Tim, For the 2nd time and yet again, I'd like to THANK YOU for each and every word you wrote and for each and every suggestions, be sure I'll keep that in mind and I'm very sure you wrote all that because you want to help :) totally understood. However, I'm afraid you are not seeing my point. Again, if you go back to my email, or just go to that thread and check the banner I posted which was done in Photoshop at 4am last night, you'll understand EVERYTHING :) That thread is NOT meant to be for posing problems and fixes. That thread is meant to be an online huge bookmarks thread where anyone can find everything. Also, this thread is to analyse users reactions and experience. I'm having another thoughts much more than just a thread. For me, even though in one week or less, the thread became Sticky and the viewers are increasing in a rapid rate - Thank God for that, this is really promising. However, I don't see anything huge in that. That's nothing. Thing is, I'm a man with unlimited ambitions. If you want to motivate me, just de-motivate me and wait for the out-come because you'll be dazzled :) Believe me, I'm not showing off at all, I'm just trying to tell you one simple thing: Don't worry, keep supporting me :) We are one team and serving one noble purpose. Our thoughts and approaches may vary but after all, we are doing what we do for one simple purpose: Seeing Lubuntu at the top where it MUST be. I'm a strong believer in Lubuntu and I'm not going to waste one single day ... I'll invest all my energy in this. Another point I'd like to highlight. If your thread went 4K and became LOST, it doesn't mean same will happen with my thread :) If I'll fail to control things and my thread will be lost, that's not a problem. By that time, I would have something better than that thread, be sure of that :) Thank you for your support and thanks again for your suggestions. Re: [Lubuntu-desktop] Lubuntu - One Stop Thread
Thank you so much for your nice words, I appreciate that :) @Tim This should be very useful as long as you take ownership and keep it up to date and until it gets so big it's impossible to navigate. It should prove useful for this release and a new one could be started for subsequent releases. I'll update it on daily basis whether on this release or the coming ones :) With the index page on the first post, it's impossible that it will be hard to navigate ;) By time, you'll understand what I mean. I've seen some threads like GRUB2 Threads but drs305 which are great threads but hard to navigate because there is NO index page/post that will point you to exactly where you want. Thank you again :) @Lance Looks great, I like it :^) I've had very little desk time lately but I think that's a great idea. Possibly around December or January I can help contribute to that. Thanks for your dedication, Appreciate that :) Don't worry about that, take your time. My pleasure and I'm glad to dedicate my time to this great time. Thanks for your words :) @Julien Good idea, thanks for your work :) Please also keep links on the wiki to this thread, so people searching on the documentation can find easily this valuable source of information. Re: [Lubuntu-desktop] Lubuntu Future - Target Market
The priorities are optimizations and stabilizations, and adding most needed and wanted features. I personally don't think we should compare us with other distros (even Xubuntu). We have a goal, Xubuntu has another, let's just trying to do our best to improve ourselft for our users :) +1 Couldn't agree more. We need to stop comparing ourselves to other distribution BUT in the same time, we must keep ourselves up to date and keep looking for better features to add. Checking on other projects IS helpful but comparing and trying to adopt exactly or similar approaches might NOT be good idea all the time. For example, if one feature in XFCE will slow down LXDE, I personally will vote against it no matter what. LXDE is super fast and it should be like that as always. This is my personal opinion :) Being around on Ubuntu Forum, I see MANY are converting to LXDE/Lubuntu. However, I see one major issue and I'm trying to find a way to solve it but not sure how long I need for that. The problem is: People don't know much about LXDE and Lubuntu. They think it's totally different world that VLC on their Unity or XFCE won't work on LXDE so they keep asking such questions. I've seen many questions like that. I think we must promote for LXDE more. Lots of work must be done here if you ask me. One step ahead IMHO is to improve our Wiki and Documentation system. I'm trying to develop an approach I already have started with some months ago but I need some time for that. I have my own vision of how to promote for LXDE and Lubutnu. Another step ahead is having more members with groups, each group is in charge of ONE TASK. Having that said, members will stay focus and their productivity will be higher. Just some thoughts to share with you, as always :) Thanks! Re: [Lubuntu-desktop] Calling for a Team-Work :)
Hello my friend and mentor and hope you don't mind to have a young crazy brother :P I think I should have been clear from beginning so there you go :) I'm NOT planning to CHANGE any current scheme or system whatsoever. Why? because, as you wrote, Roma wasn't built in one day. I just want to focus on something that will give us another plus. Users are sometime complaining why there is no sub-forum for lubuntu? why the support is so slow? etc etc. You know these stuff, I'm sure :) It's not that I want to prove to them how good we are; our actions speak louder than our words but I just want our team, Lubuntu Team (family) to be very much capable in everything and one thing specific: being fast. I know what you'll say about that :D I have no huge plan, it's a basic one. I'm currently working on: https://www.facebook.com/pages/LXDE/21251244425 https://www.facebook.com/pages/lubuntu/105956559439428 http://forum.lxde.org/ and of course http://ubuntuforums.org I have made some friends over Ubuntu Forum (I'm so fast in that by the way :P) and I have asked them to team up with me and they agreed but as you know, life issues could make everyone busy and away from Linux and I totally understand that. Having that said, I thought to find more people to pop up more on the above 4 websites/pages and support the users. That is preciously why I have requested to be an admin on Lubuntu and LXDE FB Pages because for me, as a user, I'd love to see someone from the team is interacting and posting, etc. That will add more confident to them. I already started some topics on LXDE Forum which is all about Lubuntu. Two Guides so far, nothing much but also not bad :) Two feedback topics and willing to do more. I'm SO MUCH happy with what I'm doing and because I'm just a member of this family, I'd like to share my happiness with ALL of you. Again, no big plans at the moment. I'm aware of the tags and prefix. I use that when I do my search. I'm doing my best to reply Lubuntu Threads on UF as much as possible. I also see some other people who are not in our team but interested in Lubuntu and they are helping too. *Bottom Line: *All what I'm asking for is: Let's focus our work and be more organized and that will be done via some teams or even one team. For example: It's 4am in my time and 3 threads are pending. I could send a message to someone in the team who is online and he/she can pop up and help. Phill, I'll definitely follow your instructions and advice and that's why I'll log off now and go to eat :D Thank you so much for everything ... I'm so much happy here and I'll be around for a very long time hopefully :) Who would give you hard time except me? :P On Mon, Oct 17, 2011 at 4:03 AM, Phill Whiteside phi...@ubuntu.com wrote: Hi my young friend, the system we have on the main ubuntu was granted to us (the tags) long, long before we became official. I'm not too sure what you have in mind but I prefer to use the main forum area with the ability to add and search tags as per https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Lubuntu/Documentation#How_to_help Lubuntu had some good friends even back then, we asked people to allow Lubuntu to avoid the 'chicken and egg' syndrome. I know and I'm sure the others do, we were shown every courtesy and assistance. Things that should only be done for 'official' variants were done for Lubuntu. I'll give you the instruction one of my trainers gave me. Do NOT burn out, you are no use to us if you burn out and leave. Rome was not built in a day Lubuntu has done very well from starting at about 9.04 to full acceptance at 11.10. Take your time, but do ensure you eat and sleep! Phill. On Sun, Oct 16, 2011 at 11:44 PM, Ali Linx amjja...@gmail.com wrote: Hi everyone, A friend and a mentor to me has advised me many times now to slow down and take care but ... Linux is the cure for my issues so ... enough drama, let's rock :) One last email and I'm off. I did watch a movie for a change today though :P Guys and girls, long story short. I was and still very active on Ubuntu Forum. Now, Lubuntu became Official (YES!) and I'm sure more new threads whether on Ubuntu Forum OR LXDE Forum (where I'm a moderator there) will be created. I'm very much able to handle all that but I do confess and admit that I don't know anything yet. My request is simple. I need some people who already have an account on Ubuntu Forum to team up with me. I'm planning for something. I'll hold it for now. I need to know who is IN. I don't mind to be alone on this but you guys are my family and I hate to do things alone, I do love team work. I told that to 4 new friends on IRC recently. I'm on Google, and you have other links on my signature. Whatever way you want to use to contact me, just do it. I'll be waiting for your reply for a week. Take your time :) Why is all that? it's because the more support users will find, the better and the faster to fix any issue. I love you all
Re: [Lubuntu-desktop] Rename LSC?
Hello Glenn, I think that would be easier if Lubuntu is not yet an official variant of Ubuntu. Now, it's an official variant, I think (NOT sure) we need to be as close as possible to Canonical's Approaches and style but perhaps I'm wrong :) IMHO, what could be much better is having our own applications. I mean, LXDE Applications. Instead of using GNOME or XFCE Power Management, we develop our own application. Instead of using GNOME-Player, we create our own, etc. As for other developers from other projects, I'm not that sure they will involve themselves. As far as I know, everyone is busy with his/her own project. I'm trying to find some free time to come up with new ideas for LXDE but not at the moment, I'm busy with too many things. Thanks and keep it up :) On Mon, Oct 17, 2011 at 8:52 PM, Glenn de Groot glenn_de_gr...@hotmail.comwrote: Hello everyone, today I came up with something. We might have Openbox, XFCE and Fluxbox joining if we come up with a catchy name, Midori isn´t named Gwebkit-browser for a reason, I guess. :P Thoughts? :P -Glenn de Groot ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~lubuntu-desktop Post to : lubuntu-desktop@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~lubuntu-desktop More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp -- Best Regards, *A.J amjjawad* My Blog http://amjjawad.wordpress.com My Wiki Page https://wiki.ubuntu.com/amjjawad My Launchpad https://launchpad.net/%7Eamjjawad My Ubuntu Forum Profile http://ubuntuforums.org/member.php?u=941822 ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~lubuntu-desktop Post to : lubuntu-desktop@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~lubuntu-desktop More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

The goal is to provide a very lightweight distribution, with all the advantages of the Ubuntu world (repositories, support, etc.). Lubuntu is targeted at normal PC and laptop users running on low-spec hardware. Re: [Lubuntu-desktop] Lubuntu 11.10 Beta 2 - Testing
Hi Julien and everyone, So sorry for the late reply. No, but it seems that ubiquity is not so strict about the space available. But it's still a bug, see : http://pad.lv/819538 Hmmm, don't know yet how the installer do that but as long as it worked, it's ok, I won't nag about it :) Ah, probably because you have a webcam, and my system doesn't. Yes, it happened that my Cam was connected to my PC. However, my point was and still is: there is no point of that step anyway because the purpose of taking a picture is to use it later after the user finishes the installation and that never happened. I mean, after I'm done with installation, I can't see the picture I took anywhere so what's the point of that? Do you think it might work with Ubuntu because it uses GDM while Lubuntu uses LXDM? No, a package available in official repository, but not installed by default. That's really great. So, will you guys remove the extra themes and stuff? or everything will remain the same? If it's still possible to do that at the moment, I would vote to remove the extra themes and give the user all the ability to install it after that from the repo. Just my opinion :) Probably this bug : https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/lxpanel/+bug/818869 Preciously. Indeed lxpanel - 0.5.8-1ubuntu3 is working correctly. Thanks! Just run ubuntu-bug network-manager-applet *ubuntu-bug network-manager-applet* In LXTerminal it gives a pop up error msg Package network-manager-applet does not exist. Please advice! When I tried to report that, nothing happened. Seemed to me the Report can't be sent. Please advice! Shall I include a screenshot next time? No, but it seems that ubiquity is not so strict about the space available. Re: [Lubuntu-desktop] Lubuntu Website and Facebook Page
@Mario Hi and thanks for your reply, I appreciate that. Posting to Lubuntu Page on Facebook is open but not the access as an admin. I do believe that daily interaction with people/users is very important IMHO. When was the last time Lubuntu Page posted an update? April 29, 2011 at 1:57PM. IMHO, that is one of the reasons why Lubuntu is not yet one of the top 10 on distrowatch.com. I do LOVE Lubuntu and I want to see it on top 10 and that won't be easily achieved if people don't know about it. Linus Torvalds, father of the Linux kernel, has had a lot of experience in project management and leading a diverse group of developers. Last week he shared some insight as to what goes into managing a large project and some of the issues to avoid. One of the gems he share is, ...even if you wrote 100% of the code, and even if you are the best programmer in the world and will never need any help with the project at all, the thing that really matters is the users of the code. The code itself is unimportant; the project is only as useful as people actually find it. http://distrowatch.com/weekly.php?issue=20111003#news The above quote by Linus himself is really useful and we need to think deeply about it. The guy is right and I do agree with him. SliTaz is much lighter than Lubuntu and if people will find it and use it more than Lubuntu, it might be one of the top 10. Excuse me if I'm not an expert technical guy or a developer or Linux Guru but as one of Lubuntu Member, I find one of my main responsibility to improve Lubuntu and see it in a better position and I'm telling you, this OS has ALL the potential to be one of the top 10 if not top 5. Access to the lubuntu website will be given to long term active members. In that case, and if someone so addicted and in love with Lubuntu, what should he/she do? How am I suppose to help? the website never got updated since the first time I've seen it and that was long time ago. If there are some updates, it's hard to notice. I'm sorry, but I feel like I'm offering my help and someone else doesn't want that. @Rafaell Yep, think so. I'm asking about it a few time ago. I'd like to change the buttons, colours and other things to match corporative image *(Canonical people told me we were a bit lazy, I told them we were a bit alone)*. I'm not surprised why they would call us lazy and I hate to be called lazy because I'm not and we are not. BUT YES, we seem to be alone because we didn't change that fact. IMHO, I don't see we are alone. How many members in this mailing list? I guess above 700 but I don't see much action. I don't think we are alone if we decide not to be. This is a community project and each and every input from each and every member will surely make a difference. Sorry Rafaell but I have no access to any of these pages. You are doing a great job by the way, I like your works :) @everyone Forgive me if I'm over reacting but I DO LOVE Lubuntu and I'd like to see more users and more action and OH YES we can do that in no time :) On Wed, Oct 5, 2011 at 5:59 PM, Mario Behling m...@mariobehling.de wrote: Hi Ali, I am on of the persons in charge. Hi Julien, Hope you are fine and doing well. Thanks again for your reply :) For LSC, I reported the bug as agreed: https://bugs.launchpad.net/lubuntu-software-center/+bug/861554 Now, to reply your latest email: 3- Yes, it's a bug : http://pad.lv/819538 If it's not fixed for the final release, you will have to use the alternate ISO if you have less than 4.0 Gb. What I was trying to say is I did not get an error message or the installer didn't crash even though the partition where I was trying to install Lubuntu 11.10 beta 2 on is less than 4GB. I have done another installation on another PC with less space (3.5GB) and again nothing wrong happened. Does that mean the problem is fixed? or it happened from time to time? Also, does the installer calculate the total HDD Size and based on that it decides whether the Disc Space is not enough or not? just to make sure what I'm thinking about is correct. 4- Sorry, I mean, where do you find that screen ? In which step of the installation did it appear ? Choose a Picture Step appears right after the partitions screen but I'll double check and confirm where exactly it appears. But, is it a bug or something? it shouldn't show up, right? 5- Hum, I done many installations, but never having this problem :-/ I'll try to do some testing next time I install Lubuntu to see if I can reproduce it. Hi Gabriel, You most welcome :) Then, you need to press Fn+F11 so that your NumLock got activated? then If I'm not wrong, numlockx won't effect you unless you press Fn+F11. [Lubuntu-desktop] Lubuntu 11.10 Beta 2 - Testing - Part 2
Hello Everyone, As promised, this is my 2nd Test Notes and I'm so sorry for being late. --- *Test No.2* --- PC: P4 3.0GHz - 512GB RAM - *Wiped* 20GB IDE HDD - Radeon Xpress 200* * BIOS: Phoenix Media 1: Lubuntu 11.10 Beta 2 *LiveCD *- 32 bit Media 2: Lubuntu 11.10 Beta 2 *LiveUSB* - 32 bit --- *Please be advised:* On my 2nd PC (H/W Details above), I can share my RAM with the Graphics Memory *[Onboard Video Memory Size]* and I have decided to share 256MB which is the maximum size I can choose from the list. Thus, this test was done on less than 256MB RAM :D Also, please note that my CD Drive is making terrible sounds (loud) but it works until now. * * * * * * *A- Test From LiveCD* *Installation Notes:* 1- Try Lubuntu without Installation CLI startx LXDE Desktop - Same what happened in Test No.1 Reboot done ... 2- Install Ubuntu Quit Quit Lubuntu Desktop ***3- Installation Something else I'm installing on a wiped HDD with 18.6GB un-allocated space no matter what custom size I choose for root (/) partition, the install allocate the whole space to that partition (sda1) and I can't do anything about it. Definitely a bug but I'm not sure whether I can re-produce it or not? - I choose 4GB but it gave the whole space to sda1 - I choose 10GB but it gave the whole space to sda1 - I even tried to adjust the size after that but it did not allow me to change it On the partition screen, there is two devices: - /dev/sda - /dev/zram0 I have never seen that before so what is /dev/zram0 ??? 4- Erase Disk and Install was the only way to install Lubuntu on that machine. *B- Test From LiveUSB Creating using UNetbootin* * * *Installation Notes:* 1- Try Lubuntu without installation ... WORKED :) I have repeated that on my other PC and it worked too. That is telling me when booting from LiveUSB, Try Lubuntu without installation will work but when booting from LiveCD, it does not. Weird. 2- First Step in the installation (Choosing the Language) *You may wish to update this installer* Click on it Message disappeared. I don't remember I have seen that before. It happened on that PC not on my other PC. The message is a link when you click it, it's gone. I have no idea what is that? 3- Installation Something else When creating new partition, it did not give me the previous error and I can create partitions as I want and give the size I want. I gave sda1 3.5GB only + 512MB for SWAP. /dev/zram0 was there too. However, something weird happened which did not happen when I was installing from LiveCD (*A- Test From LiveCD*). I think the installer needed 30mins or more just to move to the next step. After creating the partitions, I tried to go to the next screen but it got stuck. I went to have my lunch and when I came back, it moved to the next step. That never happened with me before as far as I can remember. 4- Installation took longer but it's done. * Above are the installation notes. * * *Now, some other notes after installation on this PC and the other one as well.* 1- XChat is not installed by default, unlike Lubuntu 11.04. 2- I managed to re-produce the same issue with the Menu on both PCs when it got stuck or frozen (Screenshot will be included). 3- I installed LSC on PC2 where I did Test No.2 and I can see the Search Box is active and the interface of LSC is a bit different now. However, I got many Crash Report and Screenshots will be included. 4- PCManFM keeps Crashing even on both PCs. Crash Report could NOT be sent again. Screenshots will be included. 5- The previous described issue about Enable Networking and Enable Wireless is the same on both PCs. I also noticed that if I tick/check both, reboot, everything back to the previous point which means both options are un-checked or un-ticked. 6- Today I noticed that every time I reboot my machine and login to Lubuntu, I got Authentication required by Wireless Network pop-up message and I have to enter the password for my Wireless Router. I think it's happening from time to time because on the 2nd PC, I didn't get that message today but I'm sure I got it yesterday. 7- The 2nd PC with less than 256MB is working ok with Lubuntu and as per the Screenshot (will be included), when the PC is idle, 60MB of the RAM is being used. However, I had hard time during the installation. Lubuntu does work with less than 256MB but I guess it needs more during the installation or else, the installation will be so slow. Note that I don't install

Thanks :) 12- Please report the bugs directly under the LSC project : https://bugs.launchpad.net/lubuntu-software-center The problem of the search box should be fixed in the last revision. Will do that :) 13- Some pcmanfm crashes have been identified, but ususally you should just let apport reporting bugs. You mean Send Crash Report? I did that already but it didn't work, didn't send anything. Yes, I was connected to the internet. Some screenshots will be useful? please let me know what shall I do and I'll gladly do it :) 14- It's the themes by default for the theme engine, we can't currently removed them. But it's not a problem of space, because themes here are only text files (for configuration). As long as there is no problem with space, then I see no harm to keep them all :) Thanks a lot, Julien :) I'll try to send my notes about the other tests later today but I first need to eat and drink some tea. After Installationhttp://ubuntuforums.org/picture.php?albumid=2432pictureid=8206 4- Choose a Picture during the installation process simple does nothing. Even when I took a picture, it didn't show it on the preview small box. http://ubuntuforums.org/picture.php?albumid=2432pictureid=8210 Apparently, it's a new feature but I'm not sure how does it work? 5- Removable Medium is inserted pop-up window during installation. Not sure if that's a bug or something?! http://ubuntuforums.org/picture.php?albumid=2432pictureid=8211 6- Continue Testing OR Reboot Reboot Please remove installation media and press Enter - Not Responding when Press Enter Force Reboot - Ctrl+Alt+Del Press Enter to reboot msg Reboot Done. Not sure if that's an error or something but I recall I got the same with other LiveCD and other Distros, mainly Ubuntu-Based. Installation done ... rebooted. 7- Wallpapers are really nice and getting better. Good job :) 8- Sometimes, the menu doesn't disappear even after making a selection: http://ubuntuforums.org/picture.php?albumid=2432pictureid=8205 Clicking on the desktop does nothing. I had to go to menu and click there twice and then it disappeared. 9- Looks like Enable Networking and Enable Wireless does nothing: http://ubuntuforums.org/picture.php?albumid=2432pictureid=8204 It's not 'ticked' or 'selected'. Looks like a bug? 10- Customize Look and Feel Window Border No Preview http://ubuntuforums.org/picture.php?albumid=2432pictureid=8207 11- Some apps are not installed. I suggest to include these apps. IMHO, I see it's good to have these: a- *numlockx* b- *dnsmasq *(http://forum.lxde.org/viewtopic.php?f=6t=31326) c- *GParted* d- *Flash Player* 12- LSC installed: sudo add-apt-repository ppa:lubuntu-desktop/ppa sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install lubuntu-software-center I'm finding it a bit hard to deal with. For example, you need to Double Click on a Category and it takes sometime until the contents show up. Search Box is disabled until you choose a Category and that means if you don't know in which Category the application or program you want is included then you need to select All. I was looking for Firefox to install but couldn't easily find it because I got many selections. Not to mention I got some Crash Error and it was asking to report this problem. 13- Crash Report sometimes with Chromium and PCManFM. 14- I see too many themes, widget, etc are installed by default. I suggest (IMHO) to remove the extra themes and give users the choice to install these after installing Lubuntu 11.10 in case they want to. Perhaps PPA for all these extra themes? won't that reduce some size? perhaps I'm wrong and it's just a suggestion. --- Ok, that's all for now. I'm also done with two other tests on the other PC, one from LiveCD and the other from LiveUSB. Got some stuff to share with you but guess that will be later because I must go now. Re: [Lubuntu-desktop] Lubuntu Oneiric Beta 2 released
Hi Julien and everyone, I have decided to download and install Lubuntu 11.10 Beta 2 and test it on my Two PCs (P4 each but one with 2GB and the other with 512MB RAM but I decided to use only 256MB RAM for this test). I'm done with the installation on PC1 and will install it later on PC2. I'm writing this from Lubuntu 11.10 Beta 2 and so far I'm happy with it :) Two Qs: 1) If I want to send my notes regarding my tests, can I do that here on this email? or start a new one and send it to lubuntu-desktop@lists.launchpad.net?? 2) Where is Lubuntu Software Center? can't find it??!! sudo add-apt-repository ppa:lubuntu-desktop/ppa sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install lubuntu-software-center Done :) I prefer to use The Terminal but sometimes use Synaptic. Software Center never was or will be my cup of tea. Re: [Lubuntu-desktop] Facebook and LXDE Forum
Hi Everyone, @Phill: Never mind, I know you are busy and thank you for directing me on how to reply. I didn't want to hit reply all previously because I was in need to make sure if I have to or not. Now, I know I need to do that for faster answers :) I'm sorry for being in hurry but as you know, I'm still new and need some time to get used to these kind of things. My apology. @Mario: Thanks for you, Mario and it's my pleasure to join you guys :) 1- I didn't find that channel, could you please post me the link again? I joined OFTC but when I searched for lxde, I didn't find it. 2- I don't mind at all and I agree with that. I need to know them and they need to know me :) I do agree and that is exactly what I want at the moment. Taking care of spam because I noticed there are a lot of them and other stuff. Being a Super Admin is too early for me. I need to prove myself first and need to know the other guys first. Thank you Mario and Phill as always and good luck Phill with your trip. I think I need to check my teeth because I haven't done that in ages. Personally, I prefer to stick to the appropriate list - which is the LXDE list for Alis question. Nevertheless, as you wrote you want it on both lists, I am following your wish this time. @ Ali: Thank you for supporting everyone in the community. Yes, we would be happy to have you joining the admin team. Firstly please join the IRC of LXDE on oftc.net #lxde. Here you find other people to talk to about what an admin needs to do on the forum. You can talk to 'brother', 'mwei' and 'maces' for example, who take care of a lot of things in the community. Secondly, as you are relatively new, I would suggest we wait for 1 week (until Sep. 18) before you become admin to give people the chance to give opinions. If there are no objections we can add you. There are several admin roles. The one most applicable for you would be a role to take care of posts and user as well as spam (would be great). If you want to become a 'super admin' taking care of technical aspects you can contact us at a later time again. All the best, Mario On Thu, Sep 8, 2011 at 6:10 AM, Phill Whiteside phi...@ubuntu.com wrote: Hi Ali, sorry for the tardy reply this time. Please use the the two 'lists' email addresses when replying, there are times I'm tied up and replying to the teams will help you better get to know them. I've added Mario on the cc list (even though he does get them) as he is our co-ordinator. Again, please be patient. Using the 'reply to all' on both lists ensures everyone gets information. An example being that there are some extremely profficient wiki people on Lubuntu (people I ask for help). You do not need to wait for me to reply when asking questions, if the question is asked - someone will jump in and reply. Regards, Phill.
