Re: [Lubuntu-desktop] IRC and Help
I'm in #ubuntu quite a lot (remember to say yo yo yo to your friendly parsnip :D) and I do enforce the rules but am not an op. If people tell others to obey the rules / use !ops if they are not compliant then it helps keep things smoother. On that occasion there were 'OP's in the room and also available who kicked him off (He actually got K-lined from freenode for those who know the difference). Currently /msg chanserv access #lubuntu list will show you the access list. hyperair and elfgoh are both OPs there Whilst I hope that #lubuntu will not get that sort of abuse, could the team think along the lines of how #ubuntu-beginners runs and grant OP status to a few of those who are regulars so that they would be able to act if a 'saddo' / 'troll' etc comes by? Regards, Phill. Perhaps we can ask newcomers to read http://www.ubuntu.com/support/community/mailinglists http://www.ubuntu.com/community/conduct and adhere to it. It would also be good if there is one or two moderators on this list who would remind anyone who breaks the rules and have the power to suspend him from the list, if necessary. The ubuntu-users mailing list tends to be abusive too and there are people who gives advice badly. There is certainly room for improvement and I hope this lubuntu list can remain civil, polite and helpful. The kubuntu-users list is quite friendly, helpful and cheerful. Sometimes there are 'stragglers' from the ubuntu list but when they misbehave, they are usually shooed away by the kubuntu users themselves. Of course the quality of any list depends ultimately on the users themselves but there must be a mechanism to prevent spam, flaming and trolling. This is usually not in the code of conduct, but since this is an international mailing list, I'd recommend that any signature of a political, religious or anti-religious sentiment be removed. Admittedly, it is not easy to handle the multi faceted mix of users. For example, some, when rebuked about their offensive or profane statements, may claim 'cultural licence' - I am from New York, people are not so thin-skinned - or a guy who starts his posts with a long winded capital-lettered tribute to god. I would not envy the moderator. [Lubuntu-desktop] IRC and Help
Hi, 1. Could whoever has the correct privileges please alter the topic on the IRC to also point people over to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Lubuntu/DocumentationHelp for when none of the 'gang' is in there (I missed some one asking for language support, which is on the documentation). 2. There are requests made for dual screen support, people with 3G modems that do not work etc. When I am active in the room I can point them to an 'It is not officially supported, but this may help area. Would it be possible to include them into the wiki as a 'not officially supported' area. At present the only way to get a 3G device working is with Eugene's work around, and such minor delights as dual screen support is clearly flagged as not being 'official' but so far works for everyone who has tried it. Re: [Lubuntu-desktop] IRC and Help
None of our developers own dual monitors. So this is not possible at this time since we're not able to test it. If someone can donate a monitor, or donate some money to buy a second monitor, I can try it. On Wed, May 19, 2010 at 5:43 AM, Phillip Whiteside phi...@phillw.net wrote: Hi, 1. Re: [Lubuntu-desktop] IRC and Help
Hi PCMan, were it not for the fact you are so far away, I'd happily ship you one. Same goes for the testing of samba on a Win machine. Grandr is simply the front end to xrandr ( http://www.ubuntugeek.com/how-change-display-resolution-settings-using-xrandr.html) as it is part of the system already it should not break anything, and as I previously said it would only be there as a 'try it' and not officially part of lubuntu until a decision was made. I did ask about it some while back when I posted this http://forum.phillw.net/viewtopic.php?f=18t=84 In its defence, no one who has tried it has come back and complained it does not work, even had an OP with a twin view nVidia card for whom it worked.
