[LUTE] Busking on the Lute.

2007-04-09 Thread AHenrijr
Greetings one and all from Axel. In 2002 I attended the Grand Prix of Europe
at the Nurburgring in Germany's Eiffel Mountains. Early in the morning on
race day, I pulled out my lute and started practicing near the gift shop and
cafe. Bring a really obnoxious tourist who spent his childhood in Germany, I
wore my American Flag shirt (obtained from the Indianapolis Motor Speedway)
and
my dark brown cowboy hat. It was getting warm so I took my cowboy hat off
and began playing my simple Newsidler pieces. To my surprise, people from
around the world would listed for second and would drop money into the cowboy
hat. Eventually, I had enough money to buy breakfast and get some trinkets on
The Grand Prix of Europe from the gift shop, Some people stayed around for the
duration of the music. To those people I explained that some lute music was
written in a tablature known as German lute tablature. They seemed very
pleased. My apologies to my fellow lutenists, I hope that the Formula One
world
community does not think that all lute players are Black Men who wear their
nation's flag and traditional head gear while playing lute at the Grand Prix.
Of course I am no Joshua Bell, but all was much fun and a good time was had by
all.

Greetings one and all, from Axel Henri. Where could I obtain a copy of
Perrine's "TABLE POUR APPRENDRE A' TOUCHER LE LUTH SUR LES NOTES CHIFFRE'ES DE
BASSE CONTINUES" (Paris : Perrine, 1698) ? Another great idea from Bejamin
Narvey.

The Amherst Early Music Festival

2005-07-25 Thread AHenrijr

The week long lute school sponsored by The Lute Society of America at The
Amherst Early Music Festival was an absolutely delicious treat for all of the
lute players in attendance. The school was located in the green mountains of
Bennington, Vermont, USA, where the chipmunks, rabbits, deer, wild turkeys and
even a fox or two (they are most certainly and totally beautiful) still command
the roads. The student lute band performed Ben Jonson's Masque, "Oberon"
(careful now, please do not call it an opera) . The sound heard when one puts
so
many different sizes of lutes and related instruments in one orchestra is very
especially unique. The teachers and faculty performers were the Veneer Lute
Quartet (Gail Gllispie, Christopher Morrongiello, Doug Freundlich and Phillip
Rukavvina). Hopkinson Smith, on one of his rare visits to America from Basel,
presented Master Classes - "say no more."

Heringman CD

2004-06-07 Thread AHenrijr
Greetings All Again from Axel:

I also forgot the name of Mr. Herringman's latest CD, but want a copy of it
to work with the issue of the LSA Journal which has published the music from
it.

Let us all hope that Mr. Herringman brings many copies of this CD for sale to
Cleveland.

Best Wishes,

Axel

RE: French Lute Society

2004-05-29 Thread AHenrijr
Greetings to all from Axel:

For my birthday, I had to have the volume 12 of "Le Secret Des Muses" which
was "Initiation 'a La Basse Continue au Luth" (Introduction to the Bass
Continuo on the Lute) by Pascale Boquet from the Societe Francaise de Luth (written
in French, of course).

I worked closely with The Von Huene Workshop, Inc of Brookline, MA. After
months of rather slow response from the French Lute Society (thank God the lute
is still in the cottage industry stage, and not yet a super efficient
corporate conglomerate), von Huene learned that to order something from the French
Lute Society, one must be a member of the French Lute Society (because of
France's nonprofit incorporation laws) So, the von Huene Workshop joined the
French Lute Society and I received my book pronto.

The von Huene Workshop, Inc. (The Early Music Shop of New England) is located
at 59-65 Boylston Street; Brookline, MA 02445-7694.

Telephone is: (617) 277-8690.

E-mail is:[EMAIL PROTECTED]

As soon as I can afford it, I will join the Societe Francaise de Luth and the
Deutsche Lautengellschaft, because I speak a bit of both languages and grew
up as a child over there.
