[LUTE] Gut strings
Dear all, noboby has told us yet by which EU-regulation (kind of [e.g. directive?], year, number, date of publication, article no.) the production of gut strings should be prohibited. By now we only have the personal statement of Mimmo Perufo that strict European legislation (?) forbids the production and use of beef gut. Beeing a lawyer (and lutenist) I would appreciate more precise information to verify the statement. Henner -- Dr. Henner Kahlert In der Tasch 2a D 76227 Karlsruhe (Durlach) Tel. 0721-403353 Tel. Dear Arthur, thank you very much. It is a shame that I - living in Karlsruhe - did not know this catalogue. Best wishes, Henner A. J. I found about a dozen hits. There also seem to be original copies in the National Library of the Netherlands, so you might check that box too (17th-century reprints???). It is a fantastic search tool. One can search for books, scores, recordings, etc., in about 100 libraries around the world, including the union catalogues** of Great Britain, Italy, France, Canada, U.S. (foundation for the World Catalgue***), Austria, Luxembourg, Israel, Portugal, Spain, etc. It also searches a dozen select antiquarian catalogues such as Abebooks and Alibris (they also have international coverage). You should take a look at it now, so you have an idea of its resources. ** A union catalogue attempts to provide a listing (with location) of books in ALL libraries in a given country. *** http://www.worldcat.org/ You can open a free account with the World Catalogue and save titles of interest to you in various bibliographical formats. Lists can be public or private. If you provide your city or ZIP Code, the catalogue will arrange the hits by distance from your home (including mileageg). [LUTE] New CD by Claire Antonini
Dear all, after her first solo album, published by the French lute society (Les Luthistes Français au XVIIéme siecle) in 2007, french lutenist Claire Antonini has just released her second solo CD with French music for baroque lute Manuscrit Vaudry de Saizenay which I just got from: http://classique.abeillemusique.com/CD/Classique/ASM004/3760098120048/AS-Musique/Claire-Antonini-luth/Manuscrit-Vaudry-de-Saizenay-(Musique-francaise-pour-luth-baroque)/cleart-32626.html and to which I listened with great pleasure. Claire Antonini is one of the best baroque lute players today. The CD contains 32 peaces from the well known Manuscrit Vaudry de Saizenay, exquisite music, played superbly and powerful on an 11-course lute of Paul Thomson.
