You can try PDF Factory, perhaps there is a free trial. It works for most things, but I'm not sure what the font issue is Or you can send it to me and I will return it as a PDF. dt At 02:56 PM 8/26/2007, you wrote: Hi folks, I tried to send a pdf of a Fronimo file to a person who didn't have Fronimo. This won't help for Fronimo, but if you are on a Mac (10.4 or later, maybe even 10.3, I don't remember) and are having a problem like this, you can save the file as a PDF-X. Choose File-Print and when the print dialog appears pick Save as PDF-X from the PDF popup menu (bottom left). This will create a PDF, run a script to convert it to PDF-X and ask you where to save it. PDF-X is still a legal PDF with a .PDF filename extension, but it's a stricter subset that pre-press people use. Among other things it forces it to embed the fonts so a person who doesn't have the fonts you used on their computer can still open it properly. [LUTE] Re: Fronimo / pdf file question
I've had good success with PDF Factory, although I use the PDF converter in inDesign. In the systems I use, there are also options to save the PDF as pure jpeg, no fonts. When I have to send someone a file where there are real compatibilty issues, I just use the print screen. On a PC, hit print screen and dump the image in Photoshop or whatever. Even MS Word. On Both PC and MAC there are very nice screen capture utilities as well. I use ABBY, but it is not free. It will convert whatever is on the screen to text instantly. Then send the JPEG. It can be read and printed in any browser. IMHO, JPEG is more universal than PDF. Anyone can read a JPEG. Good compression. If your colleague is computer savvy you can print to postcript in either a PC or a MAC. Just print to file using the built in Applewriter driver (comes standard on PCs) Even without a PS Printer you can still print on the other end with free utilities. Then email them the eps file. Better yet, if it is a large file, use the custom FTP service yousendit. Small accounts are free. Then you won't clog up your friends email system. I use the FTP to even send whole CDs to clients for review before mastering, to save on FedEx. dt At 07:54 AM 11/22/2007, you wrote: David Tayler wrote: You can try PDF Factory, perhaps there is a free trial. The font issue is easily solved by setting it to embed the required fonts, so tha the font is part of the file. Also: Mac Preview often has problems with tab fonts. Sometimes switching to Acrobat or Ghostview solves the problem. Sean, I use Ghostview, available here; http://pages.cs.wisc.edu/~ghost/ You'll need to install a Postscript printer driver so you can create the initial .PS file from Fronimo. Gsview then exports the .PS file into a .PDF. I have used it mostly with Finale which also has its own fonts, but no has ever reported a problem reading the resulting PDF file. [LUTE] Re: Fronimo / pdf file question
thanks Craig, 'CutePdf writer' already uses Ghostview but wasn't embedding fonts --or maybe my recipients weren't using Acrobat like R suggested. I'll try it out on some folks today. s On Aug 26, 2007, at 4:07 PM, [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Sean Smith wrote: Hi folks, I tried to send a pdf of a Fronimo file to a person who didn't have Fronimo.
