David's right. Here Yo-Yo Ma fesses up and offers a defense: http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=99816993. It's Public Radio from the USA, I hope all can get it. I don't think there's anything about a carbon 'cello, though. For American TV buffs or die-hard lip-sync disaster afficionados, a search might find the time that the techs at Saturday Night Live cued the same song twice for the Musical Guest (can't remember who it was, but not a lutenist.) Best, and keep playing, Chris. There is something that was very, very WRONG about that performance. For one thing, Williams and his colleagues should never have permitted themselves to be used as puppets. That's so beneath the dignity of all musicians. And who would even dare to ask them to participate in such a sham. Would you? Oh, Yo-Yo waving your hand to get his attention Yo-Yo. Would you mind . . . And to begin with, Williams should never have accepted a commission for out-of-doors chamber music. There's in-doors music and out-of-doors music, as we all know so very well. He should have written a piece for the Marine Band, with (perhaps) a massed chorus. Then he'd have a chance to borrow some musical ideas from Berlioz. He'd be good at that. Aria and Simple Gifts really isn't even a very good chamber piece, if you listen carefully. Such a good musician, John Williams should have known better. =AJN (Boston, Mass.)= To get on or off this list see list information at http://www.cs.dartmouth.edu/~wbc/lute-admin/index.html

As a long-time brass player, mouthpieces with nylon rims or various plastic mouthpieces have been around for a long, long time-- at least since the late 50's. And yes, it's entirely possible for the valves to freeze-- breath moisture condenses inside that coil of brass and if it's cold enough, it freezes the valves. Yes, even though we oil our valves; the oil is very, very light. Been there; done that. Didn't like it at all. Danny, that new guitar is absolutely beautiful-- a work of art of the highest order. And the sound... How nice!!!
