[LUTE] Re: SAUTSCHECKS LIEDERKREIS > Polish
I have started a new page devoted to Polish lute-songs, with only one item (but in 2 versions, and I hope it would grow...), a song commonly, but likely erroneously ascribed to Tomasz Padura - http://www.polyhymnion.org/lieder/polish.html Enjoy, RT To get on or off this list see list information at http://www.cs.dartmouth.edu/~wbc/lute-admin/index.html
[LUTE] Sautschecks Liederkreis
Dear e-friends, I have just posted a unusually beautiful Ukrainian folk psalm with a singable English translation. The accompaniment (designed to be easily played and sung by the same individual) is arranged either for any lute in renaissance tuning, or the baroque one. There is also an animated film that uses this psalm for its soundtrack, on the page: http://www.torban.org/pisni/3jan.html Enjoy, RT To get on or off this list see list information at http://www.cs.dartmouth.edu/~wbc/lute-admin/index.html

LIEDERKREIS
I have just posted Beethoven's famous "SCHOTTISCHE TRINKLIED" with my baroque lute accompaniment in the RUSSIAN section at the http://www.polyhymnion.org/lieder/russian.html The Russian text was written in 1920's by Andrej Globa, ostensibly a "translation" from the original Lowlands Scots. In this form the song achieved tremendous popularity, and had the honor of being banned SEVERAL TIMES, during various Soviet Era anti-alcoholism campaigns. Enjoy, RT __ Roman M. SAUTSCHECKS LIEDERKREIS
Dear e-friends! I've just posted something for the extremely adventurous amongst yourselves at http://www.polyhymnion.org/lieder/italian.html This is an aria "Quali Contrarii Affetti" from Johann Friedrich Reichardt's opera "Rosmonda". The lute part has no technical problems, but the vocal part seems to be suitable for professionals only. The source is "Beylage Zur Allgemeinen Musikalischen Zeitung, and it provides 2 versions, Italian AND German. The first is available now, the second will be available in a few days. Enjoy, RT

Dear e-friends, As April 1st is coming to a close, and it is time to set aside the merrymaking: I would like to offer you Lied #100, a VERY FINE anonymous Ukrainian "Kant" about Adam's Fall from the early 1700's. It has all the hallmarks of Dimitry Tuptalo style, so I believe it came from his pen. It was originally set for 3 voices, and I made an obbligato lute part (11-course) using all 3. The song is peculiar rhythmically: it goes from 3/4 to 3/8 to 4/4 to 3/4 The URL is http://polyhymnion.org/lieder/lieder.html Enjoy, RT

Dear e-friends, I'm unusually proud to inform you that Edward Drach, fine Ukrainian composer, cobza player, singer (and physician...) has made available one of his best songs "im volkston" for you perusal and delectation in an arrangement that includes a prelude and postlude by yours truly. It may be found on both http://polyhymnion.org/lieder/lieder.html http://polyhymnion.org/torban/torban4.html and the latter page has the midi illustration. The song is based on a historical incident from the mid-17th century. Ukrainian cossacks under colonel Ivan Sirko (who later served with the French forces in Flanders during the 30-year War) during their attack on Ismail (then in the Ottoman territory) liberated a group of Ukrainians who had previously been taken prisoner by the Turks and settled there. Some of these didn't want to return to Ukraine because they now had families. Sirko has let them go, but after some heavyhearted contemplation he ordered his cossacks to kill them, saying that he cannot bear the responsibility of breeding more Turks, who would cause more bloodshed to Ukraine in the future. Dear e-friends, I have just posted the Liedlein #98. It is playable as a solo, since it's vocal usability is contingent on one's willingness to deal with a strange language in transliteration (Ukrainian, again...). Its musical qualities however are exceptional, and there are no technical difficulties contained therein. The synopsis: Maria encounters some youths during the wee hours, and recognizes the horses they are riding as belonging to their landlord. She asks them how they got them, and they reply that they bought them from him, toasted the deal on the tree-stump and buried the lord in an open field. http://polyhymnion.org/lieder/lieder.html a midi illustration is in the torban pages.
