lynx.browser.org appears to be still there (out of date...)

regarding - "Lynx for DOS" - I suppose you'd have to ask its packager/whatever

Re: [Lynx-dev] help with ff.net.

2020-12-24 Thread Karen Lewellen

Hi David,
But that is part of what makes this situation so unique.
Fanfiction.net experienced a distributed denial-of-service attack.
Granted, I may be wrong, but that kind of flooding tends to take computer
bots, certainly scripted software.
However, instead of the individual right now, it is the download programs,
of which there are a few, that can bypass the captcha, reach the site
and get content.
Individuals would get the ads, but individuals are blocked. Programs like
caliber which has a fanfiction plug in, and fanfiction downloader which I
understand just gets stories, both letting you create a library? Their
developers can code past or hack past the door.
One would think it might work in reverse, computer programs being blocked,
but individuals getting through.

That’s not an argument pro technological measures, though.
They are preventing legitimate uses, whereas downloaders will
still continue to work (headless Firefox scripting).

Yeah, I can do that without an extra program if needed, but it’s bothersome.

Ah, okay. I don’t have an FFN account because their terms of use require
people wanting to register to swear they won’t work on a competing site,
and this is a limitation I’m not putting myself under. (Work on, as in,

Hi Thorsten,
Ah okay on Firefox, I understand.
The thing about using a downloader program is that you get the stories,
in text, without advertising allowing you to just open the file in lynx if
you want to read that way, or off line.

The program is called fanfiction downloader.
i would get captchas when trying to leave a review. Also when attempting
to log in with my incomplete for this reason ffn account.

Thanks for clarification.

No, I do NOT get the cloudflare error with Firefox, only with lynx,

Interesting, but if I am going the download route I can also use Firefox.
I just really don’t like to read long texts in graphical programs. With

Because of the captcha used all over ffn, I tend to save lynx bookmarks with

www.fanfiction.net
or
m.fanfiction.net
recently the site got hacked with the owners incorporating cloudflare.
whenever I visit any of my bookmarks, or try reaching the page directly, I
am presented with a captcha solve request, with no captcha presented.

I am told that I might try refresh, but there is more than one of these.
also that I might clear the casch, but again I am unsure which option to
check, for this, finding the list of links for cashe, does not explain
how to clear them.
my removing the send user agent option may have the system thinking I am
a hacker as I now get a forbidden 403 on top of the other message.
I can share the text if this helps. the error page does reference our ip
address here, which may be making matters worse.

I note a k for cookie jar. If I select this, how do I remove a cookie?
any other ideas based on what happens at your end if you try?
Thanks and happy everything,

may i have an example of your goals?
If i understand you, you want to select an item for download, bypass all
protections in between, and find that item on your desktop.
speaking personally, I can think of many reasons why that extra step as
it is, is more helpful than a problem.

let's say that as presented, the file you desire has an actual name of
http://sniffles#7jile8#rivhelhsjieli128r3cr.mp3
What the extra step lets you do is change that file name to something
like sniffles.mp3
without all the extra characters and the risk that because the actual file
name begins with something that may conflict, you end up with the file
you desire where you desire it, with a name that is easy to locate.

You do not want that option at all?
Personally, its a saving grace for me because many many many times the
file to download has a name with no relationship to its actual contents.

Downloading to a temporary file is how lynx has always done downloads. I
don't know if there's a way to bypass that or not, but if that's truly
what you want, why not use wget or curl? That's exactly what they were
made for. You can even add them to the lynx.cfg file as support programs
(I forget what lynx calls them), but it's used for things like playing
music and decoding images and such. Just add wget or curl to the
configuration with proper naming parameters, and you're all set. Then
there would be no temporary files to deal with.

Note: I've not tried this, so your mileage may vary.
It's possible lynx will still make a temporary file before passing the
file to the wget program, so you may still be out of luck in that regard.

if i am not mistaken that version tries to load lynx.isc.org which
does not resolve anymore

however, users should be able to type

lynx www.example.com

and see a page load, (assuming DNS and basic networking works)

I've been away from Lynx so long that I probably shouldn't be
participating on the list, but maybe it's a simple problem.
Do you have a "lynx.cfg" file where the binary expects to find it, and
is "STARTFILE" set to a valid URL?

Well, thanks to you two !
I'll try to compile with Borland 5.5 version then.
(I'm really not comfortable with all these development environments :/)
Thanks again,

...likewise, it's been a few years (I think) since anyone reported on
experience with djgpp. I added a copy of the batch files which were
discssed a while back for pdcurses or slang.

Along those lines, you might find this topical:

Then I went in the options and "forced yes" ... so, I still see the question

As it is the future of web, he asked me if I could install a version that

^R reloads (and redraws, obviously) the page.
^L redraws the screen, this should also work,
and much faster at that.

Press G (uppercase g) to show the current URL in the
status line, then copy/paste that, if it’s not too long,
or scroll. Alternatively, the V (uppercase v) page shows
it (and your history), and the = page shows both the URI
of the current page and of the currently selected link.

Again, ^L is enough, no need to do ^R, and yes, it should;
this also occurs on Unix.

Someone who knows about this store thingy would have to
do that. Lynx is Free Software, so, just do it.

There's a binding to control/Z which toggles between full-screen and
the starting window-size (for win32 only).

Subject: Help customize: screen size, color, text size; status bar covers
hotkey listing

‎Thank you for your time. I am an intermediate computer user, having failed to
use multiple versions of Linux in the past (mostly Ubuntu). Currently using
Windows 10 Pro, 64-bit, on the Surface Pro 4 in Japan (USA regional settings,
English from first-time screen), I used the Win32 installer lynx-cs-setup.exe ,
likely from http://invisible-island.net/lynx/ ; I think it was “Current patch
built with curses (color-style)”.

My overarching problem is that manual installation and editing configuration
files appears advanced; I don’t know what to do. I tried figuring it out months
ago on an old MacBook Pro and wound up installing lynxlet instead after writing
to you. I cannot use the Lynx main help and User Guide because I cannot see it
(e.g. recurring blue text on black), and because it is not clear to me which
section has the answers I seek; I don’t currently have time to read it
cover-to-cover.

My problems are:
1. The content does not resize with making the window larger; I’d like to use
it full-screen in addition to any size.
2. Blue text is basically impossible for me to read against the black
background. (I want to keep the black background.)
3. I would like to make the text larger. It is a little too small, difficult to
see.
4. For ‘a name’ hyperlinks to a section of a webpage, there appears to be no
text highlight when moving between them with the down arrow. (Example:
http://www.usccb.org/bible/genesis/21 ; is there a way to copy-to-clipboard the
current page’s URL from within Lynx?)
5. Text remains ‘burned onto’ the screen after navigating away, apparently from
resizing the window – clicking the ‘maximize’ and ‘unmaximize’ button in the
top-right window corner, and scrolling the text back into view after
unmaximizing, and then navigating to a new screen.
6. The status bar, e.g. “press space for next page”, covered the hotkey info,
i.e. the “H)elp O)ptions” etc. listing, I think after maximizing the window,
possibly the first time I used it after installation. I have not been able to
cause this problem to repeat.
7. I understand Lynx uses the terminal or something similar (bash?) and there’s
a good reason why the mouse and clicking doesn’t work, but it would be nice if
this feature could be implemented, to click on links (or use touchscreen). I
could list other things I’d love to see, e.g. the “pinch out to zoom in” type
touchscreen features.

I found documentation seemingly related to problem #1, I think from the User
Guide:
>For win32, allow the console window to be resized to the given values. This
>requires PDCurses 2.5. The values given are width, height.
>Default value
> SCREEN_SIZE:80,24
> Support for this setting was disabled at compile-time.

Does this mean resizing the content to match window size is impossible if one
has used the lynx-cs-setup.exe Win32 installer? Is there a better 64-bit
version instead?

I intend to browse the help documentation mentioned on the startup window
eventually, but I have very little spare time.
Would you please add this software to the Windows Store? I think it could
become more popular. I did not find any Apps like Lynx searching for text web
browsers.
I am very grateful for a text web browser, and would like to become a supporter
and proponent of it. In addition to being ad-free, I think it promotes mental
health and productivity. Thank you for making it! (What programming languages
would I need to learn to contribute?)

DB

Lynx does not automatically repaint its screen when resizing the window
(some long ago disagreement there). If you use control/R to refresh the
window it will use the new window's size...

Blue text sounds like the old color configuration. Your choices here
are to adjust colors based on this section of lynx.cfg:

http://lynx.invisible-island.net/lynx_help/body.html#COLOR

lynx doesn't control this

probably not done in lynxlet

Mouse actions only work with slang/ncurses - but it's configurable:

http://lynx.invisible-island.net/lynx_help/body.html#USE_MOUSE

However, my understanding of your configuration is that you're using
a Terminal app which doesn't support mouse actions by lynxlet.

The installer puts a lynx.cfg file in the folder where lynx runs from.
You can find that by going to the special URL "LYNXCFG:/"

DB

[Lynx-dev] help - download only the text of a domain

2015-03-09 Thread Coskun Akinalp

Hi to the lynx team,

I have a question and did not find an answer. Could you help me ?
I want to download only the text elemets of a full domain of a webpage
means if there are links within a webpage to an other one within the
domain I like to have the text of the pages as well. Afterwards I would
to pipe all text elements into one file.

I use the command lynx - dump www.xxx.com > outputfile.txt. In this file
I do not get the full text of the page .

Only at the end a message which say " read to contiune" before the asterix.

Hey Ryan,
I just tried to open an http site with lynx ( https://duckduckgo.com/ ),
it worked. My version:

Lynx Version 2.8.8dev.12 (22 Feb 2012)
libwww-FM 2.14, SSL-MM 1.4.1, GNUTLS 2.12.18, ncurses 5.9.20110404(wide)
Built on linux-gnu Mar 25 2012 11:14:04

It is not hard. I do this in most cases. For Debian/Ubuntu, I first install
"apt" (rather than use the desktop program...).

Then I install the development packages that are used in lynx.
For example

sudo apt-get install libncursesw5-dev openssl libbz2-dev zlib1g-dev
gettext

After that, it is "only" configure (with suitable options), make and install.
For the configure options, I recommend at least these (which should work
given the apt-get command above):

--enable-ipv6
--enable-nls
--with-screen=ncursesw
--with-ssl
--with-bzlib
--with-zlib

If there are problems doing that, I can advise you...

All right - for starters, I configured lynx to compile --with-ssl
--with-screen=ncursesw.
However,

/usr/local/bin/lynx https://banking.postbank.de/ says:
"Alert: This client does not contain support for HTTPS URLs."

Why?

Thank you all!

apt-get install libssl-dev was the solution.

Now, my lynx works as desired!

Thank you all for your patience!

Probably more than you need, but

http://lynx.isc.org/current/README.sslcerts

documents in some detail the interaction between lynx and openssl.

All you need is ./configure --with-ssl && make && make install

./configure --help|less will show you many options for customization.

I see that I can connect using OpenSSL, but it doesn't work with GNUTLS.
(Aside from Debian/Ubuntu/etc, it seems that no one uses GNUTLS).

I'll take a look to see if I can determine where GNUTLS is misbehaving...

I have tried booting both the kdi files. I have target platform - PowerPC;
Board: CM-F82 CompuLab, busfreq 100 MHz; processor MPC8272 Freescale.
FLASH=4MB; DRAM=128MB
How to boot .kdi image files?
I have two files: los178.ram.img and arinc-demo.kdi for LynxOS-178(Company
LynuxWorks).
It well(OK) works for los178.ram.img.
It not well works arinc-demo.kdi.
I try to arinc-demo.kdi and get the following message:

setenv serverip 192.168.151.119
tftp 0x4000 los178.ram.img
go 0x5020
OK.
Why error arinc-demo.kdi?
The address 0x4000 for tftp 0x4000 arinc-demo.kdi correct?
The Offset 0x5020 for go correct?
What could I be doing wrong?
Please let me know the solution of this problem.
Any ideas?
Any pointers do such a beast?
Thank you in advance.
Thanks a lot.
Best regards,
Oleg Ershov.

Sounds like you're reaching for the "-dump" parameter that Lynx
supports, as described in the man-page:

   lynx -dump http://www.example.com

This can then be automated via a script, or you may be able to
use the '-crawl' parameter in conjunction with -dump to walk a
site. I didn't see anything in my man-page to limit link
recursion-depth as wget offers.

If you don't want the link-lists, you can use the -nolist
parameter as well.

I suppose the problem is the same as with ISO-2022-JP, which doesn't work
either: lynx reads the input octet for octet, and EUC-JP and Shift-JIS get
special treatment by lead/trail byte identifier macros and iconv, but the
input buffer is never seen as a whole, so there's no place to call iconv
on the entire buffer. (I think at least that's the problem, this was when
I tried to add ISO-2022-JP support.)

So this is, with the current source structure, not possible, but IIRC Tom
said he'll do something in that area later.

I don't think this is the problem: I deactivated all scripts using

Moreover, I was able to log in this gmail account using a version of
Lynx downloaded from http://lynx-win32-pata.sourceforge.jp/

simple.

We just lack a homepage in English for this release ;)

Lynx may not be the best choice for E-mail. For Gmail you might try Pine.
I'm told that Pine has IMAP client capability; perhaps it also does POP-3,
which Gmail uses.

Will freebsd support X11, which might free you from command line?

Finally perhaps your can enable https URLs with a free SSL product.

The configure script (which is biased toward gcc) decided that it found
stdbool.h (probably part of the gcc/g++ header files). To appease the
resulting configuration, you'll have to add a -I option that points to
the directory where stdbool.h is located. I'm guessing it's under
/projects/gnu/sparc-sun-solaris2.8/lib/
but that's not necessarily good, since gcc's private header files (not
stdbool.h, I expect) tend to have gcc-isms that may not be palatable to
Sun's compiler. You might try adding a -I option to point there, just to
see what happens. Otherwise, copying it someplace such as
/volws/lwv28/ldatae/include might make it compile properly.

Notwithstanding some comments you may read, no text browser (lynx, links,
elinks, w3m, netrik) supports javascript well enough for you to access a
site that uses javascript in this manner.
