I do not think we have ever handled this situation simply. You need to

My post was prompted by comparison with what happens in 2.2.3 (just
upgraded from 2.2.2, thank you) when exporting to 2.1.x format.

I have a complex document, perhaps 150 pages, a master & 3 child
documents, masses of equations, a wealth of figures, a plethora of
cross-references to both, footnotes, and even mini-tocs (with the
minitoc package) for each chapter. I exported the master from 2.2.x
format to 2.1.x format. Note: I didn't separately export the child
documents as you suggest. The master opened in 2.1.5. The inclusion
statements in master display in LyX 2.1.5 as "Include: child.lyx" rather
than "Include: child.21.lyx" yet the master compiles to a pdf which
appears correct as far as I can see from a quick scan.

That is what I was expecting with alpha1-1 exporting to 2.2.x but there,
export of even the simplest master document to 2.2.x format produces
errors. This feels like a significant regression.

Just noticed the same. It seems enough to have "\lyxformat 543" changed
to, say, "\lyxformat 534" in an otherwise regular, simplest, empty LyX
2.3 file.

Thus:
save an empty file newfile1.lyx
change lyxformat number in it
the warning will show when reopening

[ANNOUNCE] LyX 2.2.3 Released

2017-05-15 Thread Richard Heck
Public release of LyX version 2.2.3
===

We are proud to announce the release of LyX 2.2.3. This is the third
maintenance release in the 2.2.x series.

You can download LyX 2.2.3 from http://www.lyx.org/Download/.

LyX is a document processor that encourages an approach to writing based
on the structure of your documents and not simply their appearance. It is
released under a Free and Open Source Software license.

LyX 2.2.3 is the result of on-going efforts to make our stable version more
reliable and more stable. We have fixed a number of bugs and made a number
of improvements. Most of these are relatively minor in themselves, but
the combined result of fixing them all has led to significant
improvements. We encourage all users of 2.2.2 to upgrade to this version.

If you think you have found a bug in LyX 2.2.3, please open a bug report at
http://www.lyx.org/trac/wiki/BugTrackerHome. If you're not sure whether it
really is a bug, you can e-mail the LyX developers' mailing list (lyx-devel
 lists.lyx.org) and ask.

If you have trouble using LyX or have a question, consult the
documentation that comes with LyX and the LyX wiki, which lives at
http://wiki.lyx.org/. If you can't find the answer there, e-mail the LyX
users' list (lyx-users lists.lyx.org).

We hope you enjoy using LyX 2.2.3.

The LyX team.

I do not think we have ever handled this situation simply. You need to

It would presumably be possible to try to deal with this, probably in

Visible version id

2017-05-15 Thread Andrew Parsloe
It would be helpful if LyX displayed its version number somewhere easily
visible. If one has more than one version of LyX open at a time this
would simplify navigation among them. I've recently had alpha, 2.2.2 and
2.1.5 open. It is easy to make silly mistakes, forgetting precisely
which version one is in. Perhaps rather than just the logo followed by
LyX on the title bar, also include the version number?

This was changed at some time in the past. Last time I’ve adjusted the
default bind file for mac the wording there was:

"Display a dialog for specifying printing parameters (Page Setup)"

But the updated description makes sense for LyX. I'll change this.

As Guillaume suggested I think that this warning is incorrect. The function
does not check for insets since it works on the header and also this call is
unconditional...

This part of the code is OK:

> +regexp = re.compile(r'^.*reqno.*')

> +# then we have reqno as the only option
> +del document.header[i]
> +
> +

My objection are on this part of the code. Basically we search for a reference
to reqno in the lyx header, that in this case means the latex preamble or the
class options to equate the reqno reference to using the reqno option.

It is very easy to produce a false positive by placing in the latex preamble
of the document:

% it would be interesting to use reqno for all or some of the equations

Just the mention of reqno is interpreted as transforming the document to use
the equation number on the right.

IMHO we should left this option to the user as we do in all the other cases.
In this case that would mean removing the last part of the function.

Yes. And it is clearly out of place. The function in question is supposed to

So this seems clearly a case of copy and paste going wrong. :-)

Oh... I missed this was for the web site, which is actually also a wiki of

I tried the same change on that wiki, but it doesn't help. Not so strange,

So the prefix that's being used is 'images:', which is defined at the top

It was hardcoded to http://www.lyx.org, and I've now also changed it to

First line to tackle would appear to be that LyX on OS X is just slower.
But I do not know how much Qt or LyX itself are to blame for this.
Boot linux on the same machine and see a faster and smoother LyX.
Use it in a linux-VM and see a faster LyX, despite the overhead.
This is not restricted to any special language needs or scripts.
But then again in my experience other Qt-apps also suffer from this to
varying degrees. None of which, I suppose, I use to type text on OS X.
Maybe that's why I come to feel LyX as the worst offender there on OS X.

What it makes so special – from a technical or programming view – to try
to use ancient Hebrew I can only guess:
Ancient Hebrew is RTL, uses special and imperfect unicode features to
generate ַand place the vocals and accents on, in, under and around the
consonants.
Modern Hebrew usually does not use the vocals. So this would not appear
as much of a problem there.
If you try to emulate the exact massoretic vocalization of certain parts
of the text there are some portions so seemingly arbitrarily vocalized
(and too complex for unicode) that even ancient and modern scribes have
had difficulties placing the dots and strokes the right way. But these
problems are few, the slowness starts without them.

Perhaps these documents may help you understand a bit better:
http://www.brill.com/files/brill.nl/special_scripts_hebrew_transliteration_scholarly.pdf
https://www.sbl-site.org/fonts/biblicalhebrewtiromanual.pdf

Since I also find Arabic to be quite painful to use in LyX and this
script is also RTL and relies on context-sensitive letter-forms, my
further guesses in this direction would suggest to look for all
languages that might do something similar, like Sanskrit, Gujarat,
Chinese, Hangul, Devanagari and so on (as far as they are claimed to be
supported by LyX)

Interestingly I just tried to set a latin OpenType font with complex
contextual alternatives as a screen font that emulates handwriting and
found that LyX just ignores all of these otf features. So it might be
unicode and/or OpenType related?

Since I struggled just yesterday to do something reasonable with the
Arabic docs:
I noticed that Sheherazade font works so easily for the LyX-docs is
because it contains glyphs for Arabic and Latin; while my other fonts
are usually one or the other.
After much trial and only errors I just failed to declare proper fonts,
scripts and languages in LyX for use with XeTeX and Arabic and gave up
the fight for another day.
What is ultimately needed there was discussed a while ago:
LyX should be better at providing for multilingual documents and offer a
way to declare different fonts for different scripts.
A glimpse of what's needed can be seen here:
https://www.guyrutenberg.com/2015/03/21/creating-a-hebrew-document-in-lyx-2-1-with-xetex/
Then you just have to recognize that the user tells you that it is text
intended for a certain language/script and that he calls for that font.

Mike

Considering shortcut reuse, here is what Apple has to say:

 * Key sequences that are recommended for common app tasks.

Users expect these shortcuts to mean the same thing from app to app.
Provide these

shortcuts if your app performs the associated tasks.

If your app doesn’t perform the task associated with a recommended
shortcut, think very
carefully before you consider overriding it. Remember that although
reassigning an unused
shortcut might make sense in your app, your users are likely to know

2017-05-15 Thread Christian Ridderström

reply, but that just solves the issue for me.
/C

PS. Google translate says it means: "your email has been received, thank
you. keep in touch!".
