The plan is as far as I followed the discussion to have

But it won't be a default anymore one could expect. I've mixed
feelings about it myself but I think most distributions already
moved somewhat away from what you have e.g. in a FreeBSD or OpenBSD

That requirement is there for all the 2.1.x releases. Until I found that it

No, it's just a symlink /usr/share/lyx/thes - /usr/share/mythes

we should use /usr/share + some string instead the current solution imho.

Do you've the dicts directly in /usr/share/myspell/ or in a sub-directory

Adding a deb-src entry to his sources.list and 'apt-get build-dep lyx'
should install all the required packages - including pkg-config and the
qt -dev packges. :)

Just for fun I've build a 1.5.7 package based on the 1.5.5 package from
Lenny in a Lenny i386 pbuilder on a Lenny amd64 installation running in a
Xen domU with -static. (sounds scary? yes it is!)
I fear that if you try to touch the resulting packages it will kill a lot
of kittens and as a lot of people like kitten I'll refrain from giving away
this packages to the broader public (and search engines ...).

If you realy dare to see dead kitten and monsters eating your computer write
me in private.

Oh and maybe using VirtualBox to install Debian/Lenny would be another option
for you?

Hm passing -static via CXXFLAGS and LDFLAGS seems to be not enough. So I'm
sorry no help from me.

collapsable vs. collapsible

I: lyx: spelling-error-in-binary ./usr/bin/lyx collapsable collapsible

It's even in a file name src/insets/InsetCollapsable.cpp.
Is someone interested to fix this in the internal parts aswell?

Linking with gold

2009-12-06 Thread Sven Hoexter
Hi,
a few weeks ago we received a bugreport that LyX currently fails to link
with gold in Debian (Google provided a new implementation of ld some time
ago for those who haven't heard of it so far).
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=80

This is not much of an issue currently and easy to work around with
explicitly linking against Xlib (added -lX11 via LDCONFIG enviroment variable).

It would be more interestingly to know if other distributions or people
here experimented with gold so far and what the results where?

Oh and I've no profound knowledge of the issue so it's possible that the
better solution would be to fix something in Qt's pkg-config in Debian.

Small spelling fixes

Would be nice if someone could commit them to trunk and branch for 1.6.6

Small spelling fixes

2009-12-05 Thread Sven Hoexter
Hi,
while packaging the 1.6.5 release lintian, one the Debian
helpers to check your package, noted some small spelling errors in the
binary. I tried to track them down without fixing them in other places
like comments aswell.

Would be nice if someone could commit them to trunk and branch for 1.6.6
when it's open again next week.

Regards,
Sven

No I'm only testing with external boost, internal boost is not interesting for
me
as packager and the old version doesn't build with gcc-4.4 anyway.

F11 is delivered with gcc-4.4 afaik. Debian is currently doing some testings
with gcc-4.4 before making it the default but as long as there are no build
failures
it's hard to catch such problems like the one we've here.

If I remember my tests correctly 1.6.3 with ext-boost 1.38.0, Qt 4.5.2 and
gcc-4.4
worked but I'll better run that build again to be sure.

This definetly works.

Branch with the same libs and compiler doesn't work and it doesn't even start
after a make install.

Too late now to try it again with gcc-4.3 but I remember that I tried trunk with
gcc-4.3 instead of 4.4 and it did not work :(.

So there seems to have been some change in branch and trunk after 1.6.3 that
caused this trouble. Donn of it's possible, with some CPU power and git-svn,
to bisect the changes.

I don't know about a sensible way beside creating some kind of white and

Even if I would like to drop this patch from the Debian package I agree with

Currently it doesn't make sense to enable xdg-open in configure.py as a
first choice again. In cases where packagers are sure that their target system
provides a viable enviroment for xdg-open to work they should patch
configure.py. All others are currently better of with the best effort
guessing done in the default version of the configure.py script.

When I proposed this patch for inclusion for the first time I had no
idea about the missing mime type detection in other distributions and the
modifications added to xdg-open in Debian. With the discussion, the problems
and a broader picture in mind I wouldn't propose this patch currently for

Is xdg-open now fixed/enhanced to solve the mentioned problems?

Seaching for elyxer.py and elyxer in configure.py?

2009-06-03 Thread Sven Hoexter
Hi,
would it be feasible to search for elyxer.py and elyxer in configure.py?

I don't know how other distributions handle software written in scripting
languages which reside somewhere in a bin or sbin directory but in Debian
filetype extensions are removed.

For now I've added a patch to the Debian package to soley search for
elyxer but I fear that this will annoy people who have elyxer.py somewhere
else in their $PATH without using my still unofficial Debian package.

Cheers,

This should be solved properly with something like your proposed patch ASAP.

So yes from my perspective it can wait but people with Debian testing/unstable

It's completly ok. It's just that you can still improve the usefulness. :)
What I initially asked for was an sha1sum just to ensure the integrity of
the tarball. Using gpg signatures for that is of course possible aswell but
that's not really what the technology can do for you.
The full strength of gpg still requires the web of trust around it. Taking
some more or less random signature from a keyserver to check a tarball you
retrieved via anonymous ftp is kinda pointless.
So exchanging signatures with other people in person is still crucial to
make it work.

Fix for some warnings in the tex2lyx.1 manpage

2009-01-04 Thread Sven Hoexter
Hi,
attached is a small patch to set the comments right in the tex2lyx manpage.

With this patch applied there are only two warnings waiting to be fixed.
$ LANG=C man --warnings -l tex2lyx.1 /dev/null
standard input:43: warning: `Tr' not defined
standard input:584: warning: `IX' not defined

For the first one I've still no idea how exactly this should work so no
good idea on how to fix it either.

The .IX macros seem to be some legacy stuff from SunOS for section 3 manpages.
Citing http://www.linux.com/feature/34212

There are additional macros for some systems. For instance, on
old SunOS systems, there's an IX macro, used something like this:

.IX mem2sz() makes sz from mem

This was used in section 3 man pages to help populate an
index; it doesn't appear to have any effect in current man page
systems. The pod2man utility generates these for section headings.

I'll see if I can replace it with something more appropriate.

Hi,

attached is a small patch to set the comments right in the tex2lyx manpage.

I'm happy to commit this, but someone who actually knows about this
should have a quick look first.

Ok. If you look through the file you'll see that the usual comment macro '.\'
is already in use on other places in the file.

If no one opposes I would remove all the .IX macros from the end of the file.
They seem to only trigger a warning and do nothing useful here.
