List transfer
Guys, the LyX mailing lists will be transferred to its new location at Ohio State from Univ of Memphis. Please stop sending messages to the lists since they may get lost. I'll leave the server running at Uof Memphis for four more hours so that already sent messages clear out. Then the sever will be shut down, and you'll get a message when it's up at its new location---this should happen today unless something goes wrong. . The list addresses won't change. It's been my pleasure to administer the LyX lists for over a decade. Best, Máté
Email lists
Guys, In the last couple of days, there were some problems with the lyx email listserv accessing the network at my university. Sorry about that. I think the issue is now resolved. On the other hand, all the lyx lists will be moved from my university (U of Memphis) to a more stable environment at Ohio State University. This will happen next week sometimes. There may be some more disruptions, as a result, but I really hope, that would last only one day. I'll send a message to the list when the move begins, hence you can expect some disruptions. Sry and best, Máté

Re: r41093 - www-user/trunk/farm/cookbook/LyX
What can be done to help less experienced users is 1) send a message to all the lyx lists which haven't received any messages since the resurrection of the server. 2) Ask people on the lyx webpage to see if there are any messages in their mailbox from the list(s) they follow. If they do not see any messages, they should resubscribe. 3) Tell people on the lyx webpage that if they have problems resubscribing, they can contact me at wierdlm...@gmail.com. In their message, they should tell me two things: which address they try to subscribe and to which list(s). Let us leave 2) and 3) up on the lyx webpage for a month. I'll react to these messages within a day except between Dec 20-30. Then it may take 2 days to react since I'll be driving to Colorado. List is up
Guys, I believe the lists are up. You may get some garbled emails initially, since I wanted to save as much of the lists as possible and I copied all LyX lists from the old hard disk to the new one without making any changes, though a good chunk of the files got corrupted. Some stuff is older than a decade, and the oldest file in the LyX mailinglist directory is 17 years old---it is from July 25 2000. The subscribers' database did get corrupted and while I tried to do much magic, we might have lost some subscribers. I am using a bit tougher spam filtering now (the spamhaus blacklists); hopefully it'll be beneficial without false alarms. The server will be under much better care from now on. I'll now make sure that we really have regular backups, and in the next few weeks I'll do some modernization of the hardware and I'll see what can be done about the software. If somebody has some experience with mailman3 under nginx, pls lemme know. I understand that it has been tough on you guys since I see that the gmane server is also down. Sorry. Happy Holidays, Máté

test again
Pls post something to the announce list
Dear LyX developers, Somebody who is allowed to post to the announce list, please post a message there. That's the only way the incorrect sub and unsub addresses will be changed at mail-archive.com. Thanks, Máté -- Matyi
Subscribe links are fixed.
Guys, the links to subscribe and unsubscribe from the lists are fixed at mail-archive: https://www.mail-archive.com/lyx-devel@lists.lyx.org/info.html. The links at the announce list are still incorrect, but once somebody sends a message there, the links will be automatically corrected in a few days. Those people who subscribed to the wrong list are now subscribed to the correct ones. Please lemme know of further problems, Máté -- Matyi

Sorry, guys, I am just testing out the changes I made so that the correct subscriber commands appear at mail-archive. -- Matyi

Re: [Re: LyX lists - down - any info]
OK, guys. Just got back from Buenos Aires today, and I see that the UPS decided to shut down itself due to faulty wiring. The list is back up now, but I have to buy a new UPS in the next few days. Hopefully, the University won't have power outage in the weekend. Sorry for the inconvenience! If I changed the behavior to check for From: header, we soon would get spammed (headers are easy to harvest). What's the hook's address? If there is one. The rub is that you'd get two messages to moderate for each post other people make. Or you want me to remove sa...@lyx.org since you never make posts with that envelope sender? Another solution: you can subscribe your other addresses to the "allow" address. This is a subaddress of the main list which lets the address post but doesn't receive mail. The allow address is lyx-announce-al...@lists.lyx.org Or you tell me the addresses, and I'll do the subbing. With this solution, you'd have to moderate your own posts. Lemme know what works. If these don't work for you (meaning, you don't like them), I'll think of another solution. > > - Both Gmane and mail-archive are working. Re: Update website on mailing list issue
So somebody contacted marc? Because I see the marc.info addresses subbed to the lists. I changed their subscription to the appropriate sublists. Japanese list is already up, but it is not subbed to gmane yet. 2010/5/6 Pavel Sanda : > Pavel Sanda wrote: >> i have already prepared such kind of message, but waiting for archive(s) >> to be subscribed (private talk with Mate). > > gmane should work now. mail-archive hopefully later today. > pavel > -- Matyi
