For Fedora the packages are called: texlive-collection-lang* texlive-collection-langafrican.noarch texlive-collection-langarabic.noarch texlive-collection-langcjk.noarch texlive-collection-langcyrillic.noarch texlive-collection-langczechslovak.noarch texlive-collection-langenglish.noarch texlive-collection-langeuropean.noarch texlive-collection-langfrench.noarch texlive-collection-langgerman.noarch texlive-collection-langgreek.noarch texlive-collection-langindic.noarch texlive-collection-langitalian.noarch texlive-collection-langother.noarch texlive-collection-langpolish.noarch texlive-collection-langportuguese.noarch texlive-collection-langspanish.noarch Why is there langother? :-) According to the package information: Support for languages not otherwise listed, including Thai, Vietnamese, Hebrew, Indonesian, and plenty more. The split is made simply on the basis of the size of the support, to keep both collection sizes and the number of collections reasonable. :-) -- José Abílio

Will the user have a similar problem than with Debian avatars (i.e. no language package other than English loaded by default) ? There are a number of languages installed, but not all. When LyX is installed, on my system I have then the following language packages: texlive-collection-langczechoslovak texlive-collection-langenglish .. -langeuropean -- -langfrench .. -langgerman .. -langitalian .. -langpolish .. -langportuguese .. -langspanish The are also collections for non-european languages, which are not installed by default (but maybe they are on a non-european system). I don't know how openSUSE knows which languages to install. The way texlive is packaged follows upstream, as you can see when you look at the package list e.g. here: http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/Publishing:/TeXLive/openSUSE_Leap_42.1/noarch/ So I think a solution for installing from TUG should, maybe with a small adaptation, also work on openSUSE. Thanks for this info. Could you please extend your proposal to cover a direct TeXLive installation as well? Many thanks and regards Uwe

Last change in splash.lyx
Hello, A note was recently added to splash.lyx to draw attention to the fact that TeXLive does not install language packages by default (Linux users only). The note gives as example the texlive-lang-german package. I think that it could also point out the texlive-lang-all packages which avoids any concern about documents with foreign languages like some of the manuals and examples. Attached is a patch with a proposal. -- Jean-Pierre --- splash.lyx 2016-02-01 09:35:44.0 + +++ splashnew.lyx 2016-02-03 14:20:22.0 + @@ -3,7 +3,7 @@ \begin_document \begin_header \save_transient_properties true -\origin /systemlyxdir/examples/ +\origin unavailable \textclass article \use_default_options false \maintain_unincluded_children false @@ -62,7 +62,7 @@ \papercolumns 1 \papersides 1 \paperpagestyle default -\tracking_changes false +\tracking_changes true \output_changes false \html_math_output 0 \html_css_as_file 0 @@ -244,6 +244,21 @@ \end_inset . + You may rather install all languages via package +\begin_inset Quotes eld +\end_inset + + +\family typewriter +texlive-lang-all +\family default + +\begin_inset Quotes erd +\end_inset + + if you want to avoid \SpecialChar LaTeX + errors with documents written in non-English languages + other than yours. \begin_inset Newline newline \end_inset
