the only case i have seen such strange messages during compilation of anything 
was
when my memory chipset got subverted. so maybe time to run memory check tests...

the only other way i'm aware how to hung up system in compilation of lyx is to
switch the monolithic builds on, possibly with debug symbols on _and_ not to 
have
at least gigabyte of free RAM. then you got swap hell for few hours, without
possibility to stop it, except reboot.

More seriously... you have a hardware problem.
Check your computer components, e. g. with a linux installation disc.

I'd guess either the hard disk died or some main board component
is malfunctioning. The latter may result in a corrupted hard disk...

Nevertheless the subject line of your e-mail is funny.
But I can understand that you are not happy about that.

You are right. Mother board has failed. Now also I have the probable 
explanation of because two pen-drives has been damaged in one week.
My excuses by the false alarm. I am very ashamed for that reason.
