How is the status of prohibited content(-type) determined? If it just by file extension then I still think this a bit dubious. It seems to be OK to attach .lyx files and images now. But if it is from someone with malicious intent then this a minor stop gap for them since all of these could also contain anything. Just change the file extension. In any way the above gets some documentation of expected behavior out there. If there are further restrictions concerning attachment types it would be perfectly fine just listing the allowed types: lyx-files, images and plaintext (e.g. log files) (and whatever else is allowed and welcome). Since the first line of the new paragraph already mentions zip-files just as an example it might suffice to add something like: "As .zip-files and several other file-types can contain anything, they are prohibited by default and thus you get the error message above." ? greetings Mike

I agree this should be documented on our website at https://www.lyx.org/MailingLists Can you make a ticket on trac and set the component to "website"? mailing-list policy
Every mail (with attachments) in the last few days I sent to the docs- and devel-mailinglists was bounced. The message always said: SMTP error from remote server for TEXT command, host: thales.memphis.edu (141.225.8.55) reason: 554 This message contains prohibited content This error message is – maybe misleading? There was no illegal stuff nor any profanity I could detect in the bounced mails. Since I didn’t find any offical statement on the policy regarding attachment types, their size or contents for the mailing list: What is the policy on this here? Why did I get those bounces? Can you please clarify this 554 in the future? Please make the policy on this more visible, easier to find. If it is a problem with the size of the attachments (simply a zipped lyx-doc, less than 50K) please increase the size of allowed attachments. Thx greetings Mike
