I don't think they accept any other document class than "article", because
according to the "Guidelines for Manuscripts Prepared in TeX/LaTeX Format"
for ACS journals, the LaTeX document should begin with
\documentstyle[12pt]{article}. This is seems to be old LaTeX style,
whereas LaTeX2e (which LyX uses) documents begin with e.g.
\documentclass{article}. I haven't submitted any manuscripts for ACS in

If you use BibTeX, the bibliography style "achemso" can format the
references correctly. Separate .bib files are not allowed, but you can
copy the contents of the resulting .bbl file to the final version of
your .tex document.

Problem with 2-page-layout

1999-10-26 Thread Luc Hamers

Hello,

When I use the class book and I set up a 2-page-layout (start of chapter
on odd page), it works ok. When I then set the margins (for example
25mm), the 2-page-layout suddenly doesn't work annymore.

Is this a bug or a feature? Or is this my mistake?

I use LyX version 1.0.4, but this is also as discribed in 1.0.1 and in

Thanx,

This is a bug in the geometry package (which handles margin changes).

Try this one (I only modified the first equation). The two tricks used
here are
- \vphantom{\int_a^b} procuces a vertical space (0 width) which height
  is exactly the height of its argument. Assuming that the integral is
  what forces the ] size, it gives the right result.

- \hphantom{z+\exp[} does exactly the same but produces an horizontal

More tweaking might be needed for this equation, but I think it
explains the trick. There is also a \phantom{} which sets both height

In TeX mode
\markboth{Title}{Title}
is a first workaround.
If you want Title in the toc, you will need also
\addcontentsline{toc}{chapter}{\protect\numberline{}#1}

If you need it often, a good way is to define a command in the preamble
\newcommand{\tocchap}[1]{\addcontentsline{toc}{chapter}{\protect\numberline{}#1}%
\markboth{#1}{#1}}
so that
\tocchap{Title}
does the job.
You may have to modify the arguments to make these headings look like the
others headings, e.g. \uppercase{#1}

In TeX mode
\markboth{Title}{Title}
is a first workaround.
If you want Title in the toc, you will need also
\addcontentsline{toc}{chapter}{\protect\numberline{}#1}

If you need it often, a good way is to define a command in the preamble
\newcommand{\tocchap}[1]{\addcontentsline{toc}{chapter}{\protect\numberline{}#1}%
\markboth{#1}{#1}}
so that
\tocchap{Title}
does the job.
You may have to modify the arguments to make these headings look like the
others headings, e.g. \uppercase{#1}
