I'm not sure that it's the right explanation.
AFAIR (I posted on this already some time ago),
change in the bib style is not enough in plain LaTeX/BibTeX
to refresh the bbl file, you need to kill the existing one (or
the aux file).
It seems to be the same in LyX, close/open kills the aux and bbl files
by changing the temporary. Could be documented as is, unless
a specific LyX refreshing mechanism is implemented (i.e., kill the bbl
file if the style is modified).

In formulas cm-fonts are used. The use of \usepackge{mathptm} or
{mathptmx} is a solution, but not always wanted. This way pdflatex
produces much better output than ps2pdf.

Unfortunately there's no pdf distiller that can use compression, so
Unix-made pdf's are typically around 30-40% larger than those, that
acrobat's distiller produces under Windows...

So the proposal of Horst G. Kausch (Message-ID:
<[EMAIL PROTECTED]>) is what I'd really like to have
in some future version of LyX !

How to import files in sgml format?

I would like to import files in sgml format.
Altough sgmltools-2 and docbook have been installed, i can see no 'linuxdoc' 
or 'sgml' prompt within inport menu.  
Prompt for 'linuxDoc' format within export menu is whown, though, when sgml
(linuxdoc article) class has been selected in my doc layout.

What is missing in lyx setup?

You could use "gv" and ghostscript instead of acroread to display pdf
documents: it can antialias the bitmapped fonts too.
(ie. new versions of ghostscript can read pdf too, at least Aladdin
Ghostscript 5.50)

Or you could change Layout->Document->Fonts to "times" which (I guess) uses
Type1 fonts and, when exported to .ps and .pdf with ps2pdf, produces good
looking antialiased fonts even in acroread.

This all works with standard LaTeX/TeX (not pdftex required).

Put the name of the two keys, separeted by a comma, in the "Key" field.

This is true.

Luckily it seems that Dick has not done a lot yet. I would be very
happy to have him aboard as our Gnome person. In particular we could
get some insight in what Gnome requires.

I can however understand some relucance in joining the LyX team. Our
gui independence is mostly laid out but has not been implemented yet,
so a gnome developer could not just begin the "gnome-codifying" right
away, on the other hand by joining now we can be steared in the right
direction to be a very good Gnome tool. Also all parties benefits from
avoiding a fork of The LyX Project.

We can even to it easier than that... we can make latex handle that
for us.
(we setup a graphics rule for eps files that use epstopdf for
conversion f.ex.)

If LyX are unable to find the .bib file that you use, that is what you
will see.

Where is your bib file located?

Note that lyx 1.1.2 uses kpsewhich to find "tex" files. So if you
don't have that installed as your tex system LyX will have a hard time
finding you files.

We are however working on improving the "texlookup" so that we will be
able to find more files.

You could try to run LyX with "-dbg 128" and see and send me the
output.

So if LY1 exists use that otherwise use T1.

gives better output, and handles some math (you may not realize how

I presume then that your document contains `Micha\"el' (not Michaël).
You also have to insert 

\usepackage[T1]{fontenc}

To declare a font encoding that *includes* the ë character.  You can
try encodings other than "T1", but T1 is the most likely to be installed
properly.  Give [LY1] a try though.  If it works, it is probably the 
best for a pdf document.

be possible to extend the function quote-insert to accept an argument,
which should not be too difficult.

(in edit mode).
Is there a way to get rid of this new line  in edit mode ? I use 1.0.4  under
solaris.  I know that
this line won't come up in postscript, but it gets on my nerves... sorrry

Is there a way to fix this problem by myself ? Where do I have to look at ?

I have been investigating producing both .ps and .pdf output from the same 
latex source (in order to provide both versions of lecture notes etc. on my 
web page). The important issues seem to be:

* use \includegraphics from the "graphics" or "graphicx" latex2e package to 
include graphics.

* Important: do not give the extension (.eps) of the graphics file in the 
\includegraphics command. THIS NEEDS A CHANGE IN LYX: the .eps extension 
should not be stored in the .lyx file. When you browse for a graphics file it 
should remove the .eps extension from the filename before putting it in the 
.lyx file but add it transparently when calling ghostscript to render the 
image for the screen.

* to produce .dvi or .ps output run latex + dvips as usual

* to produce .pdf output run "epstopdf" on each graphics file and the run 
pdflatex.

In my experience producing .ps output first and the running ps2pdf does not 
produce satisfactory output since the .pdf file then contains bitmapped fonts. 
Running pdflatex includes the standard tex fonts as Type1 postscript fonts 
(outline fonts) resulting in much better appearance on the screen with Adobe 
Acrobat Reader.

I have the whole process automated with Makefiles and so it should not be 
difficult to automate it within lyx as well.

It is unfortunately not yet fixed. I took a look at it recently, and
then gave up because the function which does the work is real
spaghetti code. It should however not be too difficult to do...

So why not use ps2pdf (okay, you have to create a ps-file first...). This
is what I do now (export as ps, and then create a pdf-file by ps2pdf). It
works very well (especially when using gs 5.50), but it would be great if
you can just click on Export...as PDF and that's it (I know, sometimes
I'm a lazy guy :-).

The three tools are checked in this order: tth, latex2html, hevea.
There are exemples in lyxrc.example on how to switch to another. The
rationale is that latex2html is slow and hevea needs caml (that's what
I use here).

Deleting marked word

today I wanted to replace a word by another. OK, I should do it with 
replace, but it was only one word! The strange thing was: I marked a word 
by double-clicking. And then I didn't find a way to delete the word. 
Whatever I did, Backspace or Delete, it was just Cut. Why? Is there a 
sense? Sorry to say it, but in Word you can copy a word and then you can 
replace another by marking it with double-click and then do a Copy. I 
think this is very useful, isn't it?

Small BUG in 1.0.4

Hi!

I found a minor bug in 1.0.4.

When I use the dinbrief-template, uppercase umlaute like ÄÖÜ are
displayed as AOU, when I type them right inside the "Briefkopf"-field
or "Adresse"-field. 

It occurs on Sparc- and Intel-Linux.

The fields are typeset correctly, but it's a little confusing.
