colors in math mode

2000-11-16 Thread R. Lahaye

Hi,

How can I tell in LyX to make some of my math symbols in color?
For example

then I want "sin(x)" in red color.

Simply mark that part of the math text and choose "red" in Character Layout, doesn't
work.

Any ideas?

Do I have to make something like \renewcommand{chapter} ?

Presentation / large fonts

2000-11-16 Thread Tuukka Toivonen

I need to do a presentation (transparencies etc) due Friday. Of course,
I'd like very much to use LyX.

First I'd like to hear comments, tips and maybe even have example
presentations done with LyX.

I first tried using "Slide" style but it didn't work at all (even if I
should have it installed according to LyX). Then I tried the
"Seminar" with much better results (though "Caption" still is not
recognized by LaTeX).

The problem with article class or some other normal class are too small
fonts. LyX doesn't let me select over 12 point fonts, how could I do that?

Have you tried changing the character style?
Check out: Layout-Character (or something like that).
In the dialog that pops up, choose the size option, which
ranges from "tiny" all the way up to "Huger".

The applies to text that you have marked.

What I did was to mark the _entire_ formula (both in display and inline

parameter, but some other alternatives could be valid, so if this one
doesn't work you can e-mail me a short tex example file and all the
other stuff that you need to work with your class to understand how it
works and I'll try to find a solution, sometimes the layouts in lyx can
be a little bit tricky

There is no support, yet!, for spellchecking multi-lingual documents.

The multi-lingual support does the following:

1. Change the font between languages that uses different fonts (e.g.
English/Russian).

2. Make latex use correct hyphenation patterns
(i.e., if you write some German text inside a English document, and you
don't mark this text as German, the German words will not get hyphenated).

3. Change the language of automatically generated text (e.g. "Figure" or
"Table").

 Simply mark that part of the math text and choose "red" in Character Layout,

I mean, in gv the text is black while the formula is displayed in green.

I'm sorry. I didn't noticed that you want to change the color of _part_ of
the text in the formula.

What I did was to mark the _entire_ formula (both in display and inline

I tried again with a selection inside a formula but it doesn't work.

"Figure" or
"Table").

Have you tried changing the character style?
Check out: Layout->Character (or something like that).
In the dialog that pops up, choose the size option, which
ranges from "tiny" all the way up to "Huger".

The applies to text that you have marked.

mode) and select the desired color.

I tried again with a selection inside a formula but it doesn't work.

Sorry for the misunderstanding

You must select the undelined text and then Layout-> Character ->
Language ->Reset

I understand that this feature tries to allow multilingual documents,
but it has never worked for me, I mean if I try to spellcheck a document
which has text with differents languages ispell is not able to work
properly

Use the color package.

I didn't expect this to work that well actually. Yes, thanks, this is an
acceptable solution althought page numbers are still very small (I don't
need them anyway) and section headers seem to be no larger than before
(but fortunately they are still little larger than the main text).

(Strange. When I tried first to change only section header sizes in
seminar class, LaTeX gave me just errors. But now it seems to work
fine...)

Someone had made a presentation with LyX, that I got from this list, but I
can not find it from my disks... :(

I am not pretty sure if I correctly understand your problem because I
don't really know what the command Anlagenzahl does, but anyway. The
following style allows you to redefine the command Anlagenzahl to output
some unformatted text #1, when you use this style after the label
Grussformel you must put the text that you want to display in the output

 # Closing style definition
 Style Closing
   CopyStyle Letter
   LatexType Anlagenzahl
   LatexName closing
   KeepEmpty 0
   TopSep1.5
   BottomSep 1.5
   ParSep1.5
   Align Left
   AlignPossible Left
   LabelString   "Grussformel:"
   Preamble
  \renewcommand{\Anlagenzahl}[1]{#1}
   EndPreambl
 End

Hope it helps

I haven't tested, but a good start should be

\usepackage[dvips]{graphix}
...

\textcolor{blue}{your stuff}
\colorbox{green}{your stuff}

Take a look at gfrguide.dvi. In TeTeX it's in
/usr/share/texmf/doc/latex/graphics/grfguide.ps.gz

Thank you. I made my own .cls for a multi-user purpose. It'ss a very
dirty hack of scrlettr.cls, and I'm forced to use a certain document
structure.

\input{briefkopfAndre}%user's letter head
\input{briefMain}%compute width of minipage for From
\renewcommand{\Anrede}{Herrn/Frau/Firma}%To the german pendant of Mr.,
Mrs. etc (in english; not in koma-script)
\renewcommand{\AnlagenZahl}{0}%number of enclosures, ifthen use \AnlagenNamen
\renewcommand{\AnlagenNamen}{Name1 \newline  Name2}
\input{briefMisc}%Compute USING THE RENEW'd COMMANDS
...

So to point it out, I'm obliged to use the \renewcommand at a certain
point, which is not in the preamble. The structure itself work in LyX
if I use the TeX style. But this looks ugly esp. in LyX, so I'd like
to create input fields for \Anrede, \AnlagenZahl, and \AnlagenNamen.

Sorry to not have been clear enough.

Andre

You need a (fairly recent) C++ Standard library installed.
Those things usually come as C++ header files called vector, list, etc.
and one or two "real" libraries.

What compiler do you use?

For me it is not very clear how this can be solve, but did you try to
create a style layout with two parameters for renewcommand with two
arguments one of them \Anrede and the other one Herrn/Frau/Firma ? it
can happen that lyx doesn't manage properly the "\" in the very first
parameter, but some other alternatives could be valid, so if this one
doesn't work you can e-mail me a short tex example file and all the
other stuff that you need to work with your class to understand how it
works and I'll try to find a solution, sometimes the layouts in lyx can
be a little bit tricky

floats are only possible on ONE page, so you have to write a
standard long-float. you can define your own "float"-environment
with package float

There is no support, yet!, for spellchecking multi-lingual documents.

The multi-lingual support does the following:

1. Change the font between languages that uses different fonts (e.g.
English/Russian).

2. Make latex use correct hyphenation patterns
(i.e., if you write some German text inside a English document, and you
don't mark this text as German, the German words will not get hyphenated).

3. Change the language of automatically generated text (e.g. "Figure" or
"Table").

Put the following in the preamble:

\usepackage{titlesec}
\titleformat{\chapter}[display]
  {\normalfont\Large\filcenter\sffamily}
  {\LARGE\chaptertitlename \thechapter}
  {1ex}
  {\Huge}
  [\vspace{0.5ex}\titlerule]

You can also look in the titlesec documantion for more (prettier) examples.

I've recently created a presentation using pdfscreen and TeXPower.
The result PDF file is viewed using Acrobat reader in full screen mode,
and the result is like a powerpoint presentation
(i.e. I didn't create transparencies).

I've put a small example at
http://www.math.tau.ac.il/~dekelts/lyx/pdfscreen.tar.gz
It contains slightly modified version of pdfscreen.sty, and a pdfscreen.layout
file. Note that the file can only be processed with pdflatex, so either use
lyx 1.1.6cvs/1.1.6pre*, or manually export to latex and run pdflatex.

2000-11-16 Thread Andreas Gehlert

Hi,

is there a possibiltiy to incooperate the "new" German language into Lyx.
I haven't been successful in doing this. What I need is such a point in
the boxes where one can choose the languages. The output tex-output should
look like this:

\usepackage{ngerman}
\usepackafe[ngerman]{babel}

I guess I need to edit a c-file and to recompile lyx. Can someone tell me
which one I have to edit or if there is an easier solution to this problem
(I really don't want to edit the .tex-source directly!)
